Turkey Emerges as a Global Model for Sustainable TourismCreatrip Team
2 months ago
Turkey has become a leader in sustainable tourism, with over 2,000 accommodations certified under the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) criteria within three years. Accounting for more than 80% of GSTC-certified accommodations globally, Turkey has set the standard by legislating that all accommodations complete certification by 2030. The system evaluates facilities based on environmental conservation, community contribution, cultural heritage protection, and tourist experience. The initiative, praised by both the Turkish government and GSTC, extends beyond accommodations, aiming to cover dining and culinary sectors as well. In 2023, Turkey hosted the GSTC Global Conference and actively shares its model on international platforms, including Sweden, Singapore, Thailand, Korea, and the UK.
