Many foreign students in Korea often think about transferring to a Korean university after attending language schools, but there are many complex and confusing aspects to consider, such as what to prepare and where to start. Luckily, we have all the answers here for you!

So how do you transfer to a Korean university from a foreign university? If you're curious, keep reading!

Transferring to a Korean University:

Many foreign students who want to transfer to a Korean university usually graduate or take a leave of absence from their current university and attend a Korean language school before deciding to transfer. However, the documents required and the application process for transfer students are similar to those for new students. So, what are the required documents for transfer students and what is the process for transferring?

Please note that all the information provided from now on is based on Ewha Womans University. Although most schools have similar application requirements, documents, procedures, and timelines, please make sure to check the related school's website for accurate information.

Admission Schedule

Transfer students, like new students, have two opportunities to enter a university every year, in March and September. The beginning of March and September are the first day of classes, so you should start preparing at least six months in advance to finish all preparations before then. Issuance of Standard Admission Certificate

Just by looking at the table, you can get a sense of when you need to start preparing before the start of the semester. Admission applications start about 5 months before the start of the semester, but you need to obtain the necessary documents before that, so you'll need to plan for at least 6 months in advance.

Available Departments

Each school's website has recruitment guidelines for foreign freshman and transfer students. Through these guidelines, you can find out which departments are recruiting for which semester, and for some schools, you can also check the number of students they are recruiting per department. Eligibility

Nationality:

The eligibility criteria for foreign transfer students is the same as that of new international students. Applicants with both foreign parents (female) are eligible, but those who have dual citizenship with Korea because one or both parents have Korean citizenship cannot apply. If one or both parents had Korean citizenship, they must complete renunciation of Korean nationality before the start of application submission, to be eligible to apply.

Language Requirements

  • Those who have achieved TOPIK Level 4 or higher
  • Those who have completed the Korean Language Intensive Course (Level 4 or higher) at Ewha Language Center
  • Those who have achieved a TOEFL score of PBT 550, iBT 80, IELTS 6.0, or New TEPS 326 or higher
  • Those who have completed all high school or college courses in a curriculum taught entirely in Korean or English
  • Those who have a Korean or English proficiency level recognized by the university as meeting the above standards

Please note that all undergraduate students, including freshmen and transfer students, must obtain at least TOPIK Level 4 and meet the English language proficiency requirement before graduation.

Method of Application

Number of Applicants:

Ewha Womans University does not have a limit on the number of applicants. They consider mathematical abilities and make selections beyond the maximum capacity, which increases the chance of admission for students who have worked hard.

Admissions Process:

Applicants are evaluated comprehensively on their academic abilities, language proficiency, major suitability, and motivation for mathematics based on the documents they submit. In addition, if necessary, an interview will be conducted. Overseas residents can take the interview online.

Admissions Fee:

The admissions fee can be paid when applying online, and the cost is 150,000 won. The admissions fee is the applicant's responsibility, and Ewha Womans University covers the cost of the online application fee.Once the online application process is complete, changes and cancellations cannot be made, and the admissions fee cannot be refunded, so please apply carefully.

  • If you have attended more than two schools, you must submit academic transcripts from all schools attended.

  • If there is no passport, national identification documents can be submitted instead, but a passport must be submitted after being accepted.
  • Other documents:
    • If it is impossible to submit national identification documents due to the divorce or death of parents, documents that confirm the divorce or death are acceptable substitutes. However, in the case of divorce, documents verifying custody or guardianship of the applicant must also be submitted.
    • If either the applicant or parents were Korean nationals, documents proving the date of loss of Korean nationality or acquisition of foreign nationality must be additionally submitted.
6Proof of Family Relationship Documents (Applicant and parents, 1 original or notarized copy)
  • Documents proving the family relationship between the applicant and the parents, such as birth certificate, family register, resident registration certificate, and family relationship certificate, must be submitted.
  • These documents must be translated into Korean or English and be notarized.

Notice

  • After submitting the application online, the required documents must be submitted by mail or in person.
  • Formats 1-2 can be found on the International Student Team website, but must be printed and submitted after completing the online application.
  • Documents not written in Korean or English must be submitted with an official Korean or English translation.
  • Submitted documents will not be returned.
  • All documents must be labeled with the document type in the upper right corner and submitted in the order listed in the document submission list.
  • If required documents are missing or not received by the specified date, the application may be excluded from consideration.
  • Additional documents necessary for verifying eligibility may be requested.
