At the main gate of Deoksugung Palace, known as Daehanmun, a ceremonial changing of the gatekeepers takes place three times a day at 11:00, 14:00, and 15:30, except for Mondays. This ceremony replicates the duties and tasks of the Sujeonggun, who were responsible for opening and closing the gates, security, and patrolling within the palace during the Joseon Dynasty. This event, known as the 'Changing of the Royal Guards Ceremony,' is a splendid and elegant reenactment of traditional Korean palace culture, comparable to the Changing of the Guards ceremony in the British royal family. It has been recreated since 1996 after meticulous research by experts.

At the Toksugun (Deoksugung) Changing of the Guard Ceremony, two members of the Guard's cavalry stand at the front, followed by the Guard Commander leading the way, followed by the Guard, the Seungjeongwon Juso (Office of Royal Decrees), the Eokcheonso Sayak (Yaksa Division Chief), and finally the Chwiragun (Trumpet Corps), for a total of 78 members of the Guard. To the sound of the drum from the trumpet corps, once all the Guard members have arrived, the official changing of the guard ceremony begins.
