Our Visit
Today, I visited Scent of Hands, which is incredibly popular among Japanese tourists and is considered a must-visit destination. Scent of Hands is located just a 3-minute walk from Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station, making it highly accessible. For students and office workers who spend extended periods sitting, it's common to experience tension and fatigue in the shoulders, back, and other areas, even after exercising. Similarly, travelers often experience discomfort and fatigue in their lower bodies, including the calves, thighs, and feet, due to extended periods of walking. In situations like these, it's important to seek relief and care for both the body and mind by visiting a massage shop that offers massages for the entire body, including the face!
It seems that there are many Japanese customers, as there are pamphlets in Japanese available on the right side of the entrance. Scent of Hands has a substantial number of regular customers, and the masseuses have over 13 years of experience, which further gives confidence.
As you go further inside, there are Korean explanations about Scent of Hands' two representative massages, 'Golsangbokjin' and 'Oboogan,' written there. One of the staff members informed that 'Oboogan' has been changed to 'Chilbok' now.
As we entered the massage room, it was decorated with various traditional Korean items and ornaments, giving it a charming atmosphere. If there were massage shops like this during the Joseon Dynasty, I can imagine they would have been adorned in a similar style.
The room had a total of four beds, all in a single space. Since Scent of Hands operates on a 100% reservation basis, encountering other customers is rare, ensuring a private and personalized experience!
At Scent of Hands, as they offer a variety of full-body massages, you will undress from the waist up and lie down for the session. As for the editor, today's plan includes a 130-minute course of Facial Lifting and Meridian Massage.
First, they will perform cleansing and apply a plaster pack to your face. The purpose of this is to compare the before and after effects of the massage, as your face will appear smaller after the session. Before applying the plaster pack, they will remove any makeup from your face. This step is essential to ensure that the plaster pack adheres properly. While the plaster pack sets, they will proceed with a full-body massage.
The masseuse applies pressure to identify areas of discomfort, and then begin the leg massage. As she performs the massage, she promptly detect any tense or knotted areas and focus on massaging those specific spots.
After some stretching to aid blood circulation, and the brief massage will come to an end.
During this time, the plaster mask has completely set, so I removed it. Through h the plaster mask, they can prove that face has become smaller. I'm really looking forward to seeing how much smaller it will become.
After providing comprehensive care for your face, now it's time to turn over and lie on the back to release tension in the upper back.
Lying on the back, the masseuse begin by loosening the neck and shoulder area. It was truly fascinating how the masseuse skillfully detected the areas of accumulated fatigue and massaged them!
After pinching the acupressure points with the elbow, the masseuse proceed directly to meridian massage. Initially, it was a bit painful, but as I received it, I began to feel a refreshing sensation.
Then, the masseuse will use a germanium stone to gently massage your entire back. Germanium stone is known as a breathing stone, and it is known to be beneficial for massage.
Next, the masseuse will apply a traditional herbal pack onto your back. Once the pack is applied, she will cover it with tissue and place a towel on top, followed by applying a warm mugwort pack. Similarly, while the pack sets for about 10-15 minutes, she will provide a massage for the back of your legs.
I felt that the time was utilized efficiently as they seamlessly incorporated a massage during the pack treatment, which not only saved time but also made the experience quite fulfilling.
After removing the pack, you will lie back down for a facial massage. During the facial massage, the masseuse will also perform a deep cleansing to remove dead skin cells from deep within the pores. Combining deep cleansing with the facial pack yields even more impressive results when applied to the face!
Following the aloe vera gel massage, they will conclude with a final step of applying a collagen pack for approximately 15 minutes. Since we finished the full-body massage earlier during the plaster and herbal pack treatments, during the final collagen pack, all you need to do is relax and enjoy the moment of rest.
After 15 minutes, the pack will be removed, and to conclude, they will finish with a cream application. That will be the end of the session.
After the session, when compared to the plaster mold, my face had indeed become smaller by the width of a single finger! Of course, a single massage might offer temporary results in facial slimming, but with consistent sessions, it can contribute to improved blood circulation, efficient metabolism, and reduced swelling, leading to a less bloated appearance.
