Suwon Hwaseong Fortress + Chicken&Beer Walking Tour

If Suwon was known for two things, it would be the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress and the Suwon fried chicken. Suwon fried chicken is mentioned in the movie 'Extreme Job', the sticky, sweet sauce is the perfect way to end your day after walking along the Hwaseong Fortress. Hwaseong Fortress is the only fortress in Korea that is fully intact. Although it was destroyed when under Japanese rule and during the Korean War but was reconstructed in the 1970s. A picturesque view of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, showcasing its historic architecture and vast green landscape under a blue sky.

The Hwaseong Fortress was built as a filial gesture from King Jeongjo to his late father, who was starved to death by his own father. Sado, King Jeongjo's father was buried in Suwon, and King Jeongjo, wanting to be close to his father, planned on moving the capital from Seoul to Suwon, so he built the Hwaseong Fortress and Palace as a temporary base.

The serene beauty of the Hwaseong Fortress waterway, with traditional Korean pavilion architecture surrounded by lush greenery.

Though he did not succeed in moving the capital, Suwon is still a must-visit because of this fortress.

A close-up of Paldalmun Gate, the southern gate of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, emphasizing its intricate brickwork and historical significance.

The fortress is a lot bigger in person and is the only fully intact fortress in Korea.

A mouth-watering display of crispy Suwon fried chicken, perfectly cooked and golden brown with a sticky, sweet sauce.

Two mugs of refreshing, foamy draft beer, the ideal way to unwind after exploring Suwon Hwaseong Fortress.

What better way is there to end a long day of walking along the fortress than having a cold one with some crispy chicken?

The Suwon Hwaseong Fortress may be more impressive than the palaces and fortresses in Seoul. Give it a try!
