I've probably been to The Hyundai Seoul more than 10 times since it opened in 2021, and here's what I tell my friends visiting Seoul: this isn't your typical massive Korean department store where you feel overwhelmed the moment you walk in. The space is modern, open, and honestly just pleasant to walk through - even if you're not buying anything.
What really sets it apart is the Sounds Forest, a massive indoor sky garden on the 5th floor that floods the whole mall with natural light. You don't see that at COEX or Lotte World Mall. I've brought friends here just for coffee and photos, and they always leave impressed.
But the real question is: does it fit into your Seoul trip? Let me break down everything you need to decide.
Information
- Address: 108 Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul (서울 영등포구 여의대로 108)
- How to Get There: accessible via Yeouido Station (Lines 5 & 9), Yeouinaru Station Exit 1
- Check the official website for working hours & latest updates.
What Makes The Hyundai Seoul Different from Other Seoul Malls?

Why Do Locals and Tourists Both Love This Place?
I'll be honest - Seoul has no shortage of massive shopping complexes. COEX, Starfield, Lotte World Mall, Shinsegae - they're all trying to outdo each other. So what makes The Hyundai Seoul stand out?
1. The Sounds Forest - An Actual Indoor Garden
This isn't a few potted plants tucked in a corner. The 5th floor is a full-scale indoor park with massive trees, natural light pouring through the skylight, and benches scattered throughout. I've seen people come here just to sit and relax, not even to shop. In winter, they decorate it for Christmas, and the lines to get photos can stretch 30+ minutes on weekends (weekday mornings are your friend here).
2. Mix of Luxury + Korean Streetwear
Most Seoul department stores lean heavily luxury (Lotte) or heavily casual/beauty (COEX). The Hyundai Seoul does both. The B2 floor (Creative Ground) is packed with Korean streetwear brands you won't find easily elsewhere - MATIN KIM, NICEWEATHER, THE NORTH FACE WHITE LABEL, OIC. My younger cousin always drags me down there. Meanwhile, 1F has your Gucci, Loewe, and Dior if that's your thing.
3. Calm, Modern Design
Unlike COEX (which feels like a maze) or Myeongdong Underground Shopping Center (which is pure chaos), The Hyundai Seoul has wide open spaces, high ceilings, and a layout that makes sense. You don't feel claustrophobic, even on weekends.
4. Yeouido Location = Less Touristy
Yeouido is Seoul's financial district. You'll see more office workers and locals here than in Gangnam or Myeongdong. That means fewer tour groups, more authentic shopping vibes, and easier browsing.
How Much Time Should I Spend at The Hyundai Seoul?

This depends entirely on what you want to do. I've done quick 1-hour photo stops and full 4-hour shopping marathons with friends.
Here's how to plan:
Quick Visit (2-3 Hours)
Best for: Photos, coffee, light browsing
Itinerary:
- Enter from Yeouinaru Station Exit 1 → straight to 1F Waterfall Garden (5 min for photos)
- Escalator up to 5F Sounds Forest (15-20 min to explore)
- Coffee at Blue Bottle (5F) while enjoying the garden view (30 min)
- Quick browse of B2 Korean streetwear if you like fashion (30 min)
Budget: ₩10,000-₩20,000 (coffee + maybe a snack)
Half-Day Visit (4-5 Hours)
Best for: Shopping + meal + photos
Itinerary:
- Start same as above (1F Waterfall → 5F Sounds Forest)
- Lunch at B1 Food Court - try Jeonju stone pot bibimbap or browse the food truck-style stalls (1 hour, ₩9,000-₩15,000 per person)
- Shop B2 (streetwear), 1F (luxury), or 3F (Korean fashion brands) depending on your taste (2 hours)
- Stop by Cafe Layered (B1) for scones if you have a sweet tooth (30 min)
- Tax refund processing on 6F if you spent ₩30,000+ (15-20 min)
Budget: ₩100,000-₩300,000 (meal + shopping)
💡Pro tip from experience: If you're doing a half day, store your shopping bags in the lockers on B1 or B3 (they fit large luggage) so you don't have to lug them around. I learned this the hard way after carrying three shopping bags.
What Can I Find on Each Floor? (Complete Floor Breakdown)

The Hyundai Seoul has 8 floors (B2-6F) and the parking lot is from B6-B3!
Which Floor Should I Start On?
If you're entering from Yeouinaru Station (Exit 1), you'll arrive at the 1F Entrance 4, which puts you right in front of the Waterfall Garden - perfect photo op to start.
If you're coming from Yeouido Station via the underground passage, you'll pop out on B2 (Creative Ground), which honestly isn't a bad place to start either if you like streetwear.
My recommended photo route: 1F Waterfall Garden → 5F Sounds Forest → 6F for the overlook view of Sounds Forest from above
B2 (Creative Ground) - Korean Streetwear & Trendy Brands

This is easily the busiest floor, especially on weekends. Why? Because it's where all the Korean streetwear and trendy brands have their flagship stores. My younger cousin (she's 22) basically lives on this floor.
Brands you'll find here:
- Korean streetwear: MATIN KIM, OIC (OIOI COLLECTION), LOEUVRE, emis, PEER
- International trendy: MLB, THE NORTH FACE WHITE LABEL, Rockfish Weatherwear,
- Accessories: CASETiFY, AFRICA EYEWEAR, DEPOUND, STAND OIL, NICE WEATHER
- Coffee: ARKET CAFE, Starbucks Reserve
What to know:
Queuing system: Popular stores like NICEWEATHER and MATIN KIM often have lines, especially weekends. You'll see a tablet at the entrance where you need to enter your phone number to queue. Problem: It only accepts Korean phone numbers. Solution: Download the "Hyundai Food Museum" app via the QR code on the tablet, which lets you queue without a Korean number.
Tax refund kiosk is on this floor (self-service)
My take: If you're into Korean fashion or want pieces you can't get back home, budget serious time here. I've seen friends spend 2+ hours just on B2.
B1 (Tasty Seoul) - Budget-Friendly Food Court

Think of this as an upscale food court with a night market vibe. Some vendors operate from food truck-style stalls, which gives it a fun, casual energy. This is where I eat when I don't want to spend ₩30,000+ on a sit-down meal upstairs.
Popular spots to try:
- Seoul Mandu (Korean dumplings) - ₩8,000-₩14,000
- Tonkasu 1985 (Pork cutlet) - ₩14,000-₩17,000
- London Bagel Museum - ₩4,000-₩8,000
- Cafe Layered - scones ₩4,500-₩5,500, coffee ₩5,000
Desserts:
- Hart Tiramisu - ₩26,000-₩29,000
- Godiva Bakery - pastries ₩4,000-₩7,000
- Oak Berry - ₩12,500-₩16,000
How ordering works:
- Self-order kiosks near the entrance (card only)
- Counter in the center (accepts cash)
- Grab your buzzer, find a seat, pick up when it buzzes
- Return your tray to the return station when done
Pro tip: The food court has free drinking water and a small restroom. I always grab water here before shopping.
1F (Exclusive Label) - Luxury Fashion & Beauty

This is the luxury floor - Gucci, Loewe, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Chanel Beauty, you name it. If you've been to any high-end department store, you know the vibe.

Source:더 현대
There are a total of 5 entrances on the 1st floor. You can take a look at the different entrances on the photo above. If you are coming from Yeouinaru Station, the closest entrance will be Entrance 4.

If you do enter from Entrance 4, you will see "Waterfall Garden", which is one of the main attractions of the mall.
You can hear water flowing, smell the plants, and it genuinely feels like you stepped into a botanical garden instead of a mall. I've brought friends here just for this photo op.
Brands on this floor:
- Fashion: Gucci, Loewe, Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent, Prada, Fendi, MIUMIU, Moncler, DIOR
- Jewelry: Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari
- Beauty: Chanel Beauty, Diptyque, L'Occitane, Gentle Monster
- Luggage: RIMOWA
My take: Even if you're not buying anything, walk through just to see the Waterfall Garden. It's worth it.
2F (Modern Mood) - Contemporary Fashion

This floor has contemporary and mid-luxury brands that you won't find in every Seoul department store. If you want something more unique than fast fashion but not quite Gucci-level, check here.
Some brands you can find in this floor: GOLDEN GOOSE, MAX MARA, ACNE STUDIOS, ALO, COACH, MONTBLANC, OMEGA & more!
To be honest, I don't spend much time on this floor personally, but my friend who's really into ALO yoga gear swears by the selection here.
3F (About Fashion) - Classic & Korean Brands

This floor mixes classic international brands (Lacoste, Tommy Hilfiger, Bean Pole) with Korean fashion labels. If you want pieces that are popular in Korea but not necessarily hype streetwear, this is the spot.
Some brands you can find in this floor: DKNY, lululemon, GANNI, the CASHMERE, J.ESTINA, KREAM & more!
4F (Life & Balance) - Active Wear & Outdoor Gear
You can shop for sports, golf, and outdoor lifestyle brands here. If you are looking for some activewear, you can come here and shop all the options!
Some brands you can find in this floor: NIKESWIM , THE NORTH FACE, SALOMON, SNOW PEAK, MALBON GOLF & more!
5F (Sounds Forest) - The Instagram-Famous Indoor Sky Garden

This is the floor. The one everyone posts on Instagram. The reason people visit The Hyundai Seoul even if they're not shopping.
What is Sounds Forest?
Imagine a massive indoor park with full-grown trees, natural light streaming through a skylight, wooden benches scattered throughout, and a calm, almost zen atmosphere in the middle of a shopping mall. It's wild. The garden spans the center atrium of the mall, so you can see it from multiple floors, but 5F is where you actually walk through it.

There are many benches that are placed all across the floor so you can take a seat and relax amongst the plants. There are also a few cafes nearby such as Blue Bottle, so you can enjoy the scenery while drinking coffee!

Seasonal highlight: Christmas decorations
If you're visiting Seoul in late November through December, the Sounds Forest transforms into a Christmas wonderland. They set up decorations that look straight out of a European Christmas market - think lights, miniature village displays, the works.
Keep in mind that the lines to enter can be quite long during this season. I made the mistake of going on a Saturday afternoon in December once and waited a whole day just to walk through. Go on a weekday morning (10-11 AM) if you're visiting during peak season.
Other stuff on 5F: LEGO, NEW BALANCE KIDS, DYSON, LOGITECH, PANASONIC, MICROSOFT, BLUE BOTTLE COFFEE & more!
Even if you're not a big shopper, come up to 5F just to see Sounds Forest. It's genuinely impressive, and it's free.
6F (Dining & Art) - Fine Dining, Exhibitions & Views
On the 6th floor, there are many fine dining restaurants, exhibition room, and even a comprehensive cultural space. There are plenty of attractions such as a spot where you can see the sound forest and take pictures and even a resting spot with lots of plants!

Some food spots you can find in this floor: RISTORANTE EO, GODIVA, EATALY, Sichuan HwaGa & more!
Where Should I Eat at The Hyundai Seoul?
Let me break this down by budget because "where should I eat?" really depends on how much you want to spend.
Budget Options Under ₩15,000
<B1 Food Court> is your best bet.

My top picks: Jeonju stone pot bibimbap (₩9,500) - I've ordered this at least 5 times. It's the safest choice if you want traditional Korean flavor and a filling meal.
Grilled pork belly set (₩13,000) - Comes with rice, soup, and side dishes. Great if you want a full Korean meal experience.
<Cafe/dessert>

Cafe Layered (B1) - Famous Korean dessert cafe. Their scones are the star (₩4,500-₩5,500). Pair with an Americano (₩5,000) for a solid coffee break under ₩10,000.
Total budget for a meal: ₩9,000-₩15,000
Mid-Range Dining (₩25,000-₩40,000)
6F fine dining is where you go if you want to treat yourself.
<SMT Lounge>

- Vibe: K-pop themed (run by SM Entertainment), Chinatown-meets-Mexico City concept
- Food: Hong Kong + Mexican fusion (mala soup, xiaolongbao, tacos)
- Prices: Mala soup ₩15,000, xiaolongbao ₩10,000 for 4 pieces, tacos from ₩12,000
- Why go: Open layout, huge windows with Yeouido/Han River views, K-pop photo spot
Other 6F options:
- Ristorante EO (Italian fine dining) - expect ₩65,000-₩125,000+ per person
- Eataly (Italian market/restaurant) - pastas around ₩20,000-₩25,000, mains ₩26,000+
My take: If you're going to splurge, do it at SMT Lounge for the view and K-pop theme, or save your money and eat well at B1. The 6F restaurants are nice but not "must-visit" unless you really want that Han River view with your meal.
Best Cafes for a Shopping Break
I'm a cafe person, so I've tried most of them. Here's the honest ranking:
1. Blue Bottle Coffee (5F)

- Why: You're sitting in Sounds Forest surrounded by trees and natural light. It's the best cafe atmosphere in the whole mall.
- Prices: Americano ₩5,500-₩6,000, lattes ₩6,500-₩7,000
- Downside: Can get crowded on weekends; limited seating
2. Laurus Blanc (3F)

- Why: Overlooks the Waterfall Garden from above. Great for photos and a sit-down brunch vibe.
- Prices: Coffee ₩5,000-₩9,500, desserts ₩7,000-₩9,000
- Best for: Longer breaks; they have full brunch menu (toast, sandwiches, soups)
How Do I Shop at The Hyundai Seoul as a Foreigner?
Can I Get a Tax Refund? (Step-by-Step)
Yes! You can process your tax refund on the sixth floor, where on site tax refund services are available.

How to get your refund at The Hyundai Seoul:
Option 1: On-site refund (easiest)
- After shopping, go to the 6F customer service counter OR the B2 self-service tax refund kiosks
- Bring your passport and receipts
- They'll process the refund on the spot (cash or credit back to your card)
Option 2: Airport refund
- If you forget to do it at the mall, you can still get your refund at Incheon or Gimpo Airport before departure
- Look for the Tax Refund counters after check-in
- You'll need your passport, receipts, and the items you bought (sometimes they check)
My recommendation: Do it on-site at The Hyundai Seoul while you're there. The B2 kiosks are fast and easy if you're comfortable with self-service (they have English language option).

Do I Need to Queue to Enter Stores?
Sometimes, yes - especially for popular Korean streetwear brands on B2.
Here's how it works:
The queuing system: Popular stores (like NICEWEATHER, MATIN KIM, CASETiFY on busy days) limit how many people can browse at once to prevent overcrowding. At the entrance, you'll see a tablet kiosk where you enter your phone number and party size. The system texts you when it's your turn.
The problem for foreigners: The tablets only accept Korean phone numbers.
The solution: Download the "Hyundai Food Museum" app via the QR code displayed on the tablet. The app lets you queue digitally without needing a Korean number. You'll get a push notification when it's your turn.
Which stores typically have queues?
- B2: NICEWEATHER, MATIN KIM, CASETiFY (weekends)
- 1F: Gentle Monster (sometimes)
- Pop-up stores on 5F/6F (depends on what's running)
My tip: If you don't want to deal with queues, visit on weekday mornings (10 AM-12 PM). I've walked into NICEWEATHER with zero wait on a Tuesday at 11 AM.
Where Are the Lockers and Charging Stations?
Lockers (3 locations):
- B1 (next to customer service office)
- B3 parking lot (next to central escalator)
- B4 parking lot
- How to use: Self-service via kiosk
- Languages: Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese
- Sizes: Regular lockers
- ※ You can store your suitcase at the tourist desk on the 1st floor. Use unmanned storage lockers for personal valuables and shopping items.
- Special feature: The B1 customer service lockers can store perishable and refrigerated items - great if you're buying food gifts
- Hours: Lockers only available during mall operating hours
Portable charger rental:

Location: B1 (next to customer service) and near lockers
Payment: KakaoPay or Korean credit card only
My tip: Bring your own portable charger. The rental system isn't foreigner-friendly. Also, if you're doing serious shopping, use the lockers - I cannot stress this enough. Walking around with 5 shopping bags while trying to take photos at Sounds Forest is miserable (I learned this the hard way).

Information Screens

In each floor, you can find the floor guide screens for the detailed location of each store. You can change it to English by looking at the bottom right.
Information Office
When you enter from Gate 1 on the 1st floor, you will find the general information center in front of you. Here you can get information about shopping, facilities and events.
Stroller Rental

There are facilities on the 1st and 5th floor where you can rent a stroller for infants. There is also a infant break room on the 5th floor, which is perfect for a short break for your child while shopping.
How Do I Get to The Hyundai Seoul?
The mall is accessible from two subway stations: Yeouido Station (Lines 5 & 9) and Yeouinaru Station (Line 5). I almost always recommend Yeouinaru because it's faster and more direct.
1. From Yeouido Station (Lines 5 & 9)
Head towards Exit 3 of Yeouido Subway Station.
Once you head towards Exit 3 you will see the IFC mall information. Instead of going out from the exit, proceed to the underground passage on the right side of the escalator.
If you take the moving walkway, you will find an underground passage on the right side. Turn right and go straight on the moving walkway.
On the way, you will see the entrance to IFC Mall on your left. Continue straight.
Continue until you see the entrance for The Hyundai Seoul Mall.
2. From Yeouinaru Station (Line 5)

Take Exit 1 of Yeoinaru Station on the subway.

Look back and follow the road on the right, which is just around the corner.

Continue straight.

If you walk for about 5 minutes, you will see the building!
Should I Combine This with Other Yeouido Attractions?
Absolutely! Yeouido is a great half-day or full-day area. Here's what's nearby:
1. Yeouido Hangang Park (5 min walk from The Hyundai Seoul Gate 4)
- Address: 330 Yeouido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul
- About 1 min walk from Exit 2 of Yeouinaru Station (same station as The Hyundai Seoul)

One of the most popular Han River parks in Seoul
- What to do: Rent bikes, have a picnic, eat fried chicken by the river, set up a tent and relax
- Best time: Late afternoon to sunset, or evening (the city lights are beautiful)
My take: If you're visiting The Hyundai Seoul, 100% walk over to Hangang Park after. It's what locals do - shop, eat, then chill by the river.
2. IFC Mall (connected via underground passage)
- Address: 10 Gukjegeumyung-ro, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul
- Hours: 10:00-22:00 (varies by store)
- 7-minute walk via underground passage from Yeouido Station Exit 3

Another shopping mall right next to The Hyundai Seoul
- What's here: Fashion brands, SPA brands (Zara, H&M, Uniqlo), Kyobo Bookstore, CGV cinema, restaurants
- Special mention: Knotted (famous Korean donut cafe) is on B2 (L2). If you've been wanting to try their cronuts, this is your chance.
My take: IFC Mall is more casual/affordable than The Hyundai Seoul. If you want fast fashion or a movie, pop over here.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Is The Hyundai Seoul worth visiting if I'm already going to COEX?
Honest answer: If you only have 3-4 days in Seoul, probably skip it. COEX has the Starfield Library (more Instagrammable for first-timers). The Hyundai Seoul is beautiful and calmer, but the locations don't overlap well (Yeouido vs Gangnam).
Visit The Hyundai Seoul if:
- You have 5+ days in Seoul and want variety
- You're staying in Yeouido or western Seoul
- You prefer a less crowded, more spacious shopping experience
- You love indoor gardens/architecture (Sounds Forest is truly special)
Stick with COEX if:
- Limited time and you want maximum "wow" factor (Starfield Library wins for first impressions)
- You're already staying in Gangnam/Central area
2. How long does it take to explore The Hyundai Seoul?
Quick visit: 2-3 hours (photos + coffee)
Half-day: 4-5 hours (shopping + meal + photos)
Full day: 6+ hours (if combining with Yeouido Hangang Park or serious shopping)
I usually spend 3-4 hours when I go.
3. Is The Hyundai Seoul expensive compared to other Seoul malls?
It's on the pricier side because of the luxury + trendy brand mix, but you can absolutely visit on a budget. You can enjoy The Hyundai Seoul for ₩20,000-₩30,000 if you just want the experience (Sounds Forest, Waterfall Garden, coffee). Shopping is where it gets expensive.
4. Can I visit The Hyundai Seoul without buying anything?
Absolutely, yes. I've brought friends here just for coffee and photos. No one will judge you for browsing without buying.
What you can do for free:
- Walk through Sounds Forest (5F)
- Take photos at Waterfall Garden (1F)
- Browse all floors
- Check out pop-up stores and exhibitions
- Use the lounges/seating areas
What costs money:
- Food and drinks
- Shopping (duh)
- Some exhibitions on 6F (not all - some are free)
My tip: This is a great rainy-day activity in Seoul. The whole mall is indoors, climate-controlled, and beautiful to walk through even if you're just killing time.
5. What's the best time to visit to avoid crowds?
Best times (from my experience):
- Weekday mornings (10:30 AM - 12:00 PM) - Quietest time; no queues for stores
- Weekday afternoons (2:00 - 4:00 PM) - Still pretty calm; good lighting for Sounds Forest photos
Avoid:
- Weekends after 12 PM - Gets packed
- Lunch hours (12:00 - 1:30 PM) - B1 food court is chaos
- Christmas season (late Nov - Dec) weekends
- Korean public holidays - Expect crowds
My golden rule: If you want to actually shop and browse comfortably, Tuesday or Wednesday morning at 11 AM is perfect. If you just want photos and don't mind crowds, any time works.
6. What Are the Opening Hours?
Based on typical Korean department store hours:
General mall: 10:30 AM - 8:00 PM (weekdays), 10:30 AM - 8:30 PM (weekends)
Restaurants/cafes: 10:30 AM - 10:00 PM
Closed on public holidays and the third Monday of every month.
7. How do I get to The Hyundai Seoul from Incheon Airport?
You have three main options. Airport Limousine Bus 6019 runs from Incheon Airport Terminal 1 directly to Yeouido (stops near Conrad Hotel/IFC Mall), takes about 70 minutes, and costs around ₩11,000-₩12,000. It's the most convenient if you have luggage.
AREX (Airport Railroad Express) + Subway is the cheapest option (₩5,000-₩9,000 total): take AREX to Gimpo Airport Station, transfer to Line 5, get off at Yeouido or Yeouinaru Station. Takes about 65-75 minutes. Taxi is fastest (40-50 minutes) but costs ₩50,000-₩70,000 depending on traffic. If you're staying in Yeouido anyway, the limousine bus is your best bet - direct route, comfortable, and you can nap after your flight.
8. Is The Hyundai Seoul a good rainy day activity?
Absolutely. This is actually one of the best indoor spots in Seoul when the weather's bad. The entire complex is climate-controlled, you can easily spend 4-6 hours here without stepping outside, and the Sounds Forest on 5F gives you that "green space" feeling even when it's pouring rain outside. The B1 food court and 6F restaurants mean you can eat multiple meals without leaving. Plus, if you're doing the underground route from Yeouido Station, you barely touch outdoor air. I've personally gone here on rainy weekends just to walk around and grab coffee - it beats being stuck in a tiny cafe. Way better than trying to sightsee in the rain or wander around Myeongdong under an umbrella.
9. Do most stores accept international credit cards, or do I need cash?
International credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) work at all the brand stores, restaurants, and cafes inside The Hyundai Seoul. Korea is extremely card-friendly, especially in malls like this. That said, I'd still carry ₩20,000-₩50,000 cash just in case - some smaller pop-up vendors on B2 or food court stalls occasionally prefer cash, and the portable charger rental service only works with KakaoPay or Korean credit cards (though you probably won't need that). The tax refund kiosks accept cards. You'll be fine with just cards for 95% of your visit.
Ready to Explore Yeouido?
The Hyundai Seoul is more than just a shopping mall - it's a whole vibe. Whether you're here for the Instagram-worthy Sounds Forest, the Korean streetwear on B2, or just a calm afternoon with coffee and a view, it's worth adding to your Seoul itinerary.
