You get pretty generous on what you are spending while you are on a trip, but sometimes you get nervous to check out your balance on your bank account.
No worries! This blog is about travelling Daegu on a budget of ₩20,000 a day.
There are four destinations to check out in total! For places to eat, there are Yakjeon Alley Kal-guksu and the famous Seomun Market. Also, there are two places to visit which include Kim Kwang Seok Street and Suseongmot. I took public transportation like buses and subway, using the NAVER Map application.
The map above is to help you to get an idea of four places' location! Let's go take a look at the four places now!
Yakjeon Alley Kal-guksu (약전골목원조국수)
- Price: Kal-guksu ₩6,000
- Hours:
Mon-Sat 11:30-19:00
Sun Closed - Address: 대구 중구 약령길 34-20
- Transportation:
Banwoldang Station, Exit 18
This kal-guksu restaurant is a popular restaurant among Korean tourists for its knife-cut noodles!
Even though the restaurant opens at 11:30, I would like to recommend visiting 10-15 minutes earlier than the opening time. I have arrived at the restaurant around 11:20 and got my seat, but customers who came around 11:30 had to line up since the restaurant is a beloved place by locals and Korean visitors.
The menu is simple and easy. There are three menus available: kal-guksu, which is the knife-cut noodle soup, bibim kal-guksu, which is cold spicy knife-cut noodle and suyuk, which is the Korean pork belly slices.
The most famous menu is the kal-guksu... but I saw some customers ordering suyuk for their sides!
Can you see the two people working hard on their knife-cut noodles?! While I was waiting for my kal-guksu to be ready, I watched them cutting the noodles.
Another tip is that you can order a bowl of rice...if you would like to. You can simply go to the buffet and scoop the rice in the bowl as much as you want. I recommend getting a bowl of rice, since the rice goes very well with the soup!
You can also get your own kimchi from the buffet as well. Please be aware of the spiciness of this kimchi! Lots of Koreans find the kimchi spicy (I found them spicy as well), so I recommend getting a small amount first to try out first.
About 10 minutes later, I got my kal-guksu ready! The boiling hot noodles with cold spicy kimchi on the side looked better than anything at the moment.
When I tried the soup first and tasted crab from the broth.
The noodles, bok choy and kimchi were a perfect combination indeed. You must try like the photo below! The noodles were nice and chewy, which is why I enjoyed this noodle dish compared to any other kal-guksu that I have had before.
You can also add soy sauce marinated spicy pepper, which can make your noodle dish a bit spicier. Once I finished eating, I could see a lot of people waiting in line for lunch! If you are not a big fan of waiting for food, I highly recommend visiting the restaurant 10 minutes earlier than the opening hour.
Kim Kwang Seok Street (김광석 다시그리기길)
- Price: ₩0
- Address: 대구 중구 대봉동 6-11
- Transportation:
Kyungpook National Hospital Station, Exit 3
Daebonggyo Station, Exit 4

Kim Kwang Seok Street is a pedestrian-only alley filled with artistic murals that can be perfect photo spots! My friend and I took several pictures as you can see in some of the photos below.
I spotted a cute vintage arcade where you can get plushie as a reward!
Also, there were some cute souvenir shops for you to remember the Daegu trip. I found the guitar keychain pretty cute as a souvenir from Kim Kwang Seok Street.
If you have a chance to visit after the sun goes down, please do so! The night view of Kim Kwang Seok street gives you a more artistic and sentimental vibe compared to the lively atmosphere compared to the daytime.
Most importantly, Kim Kwang Seok Street doesn't cost a penny to look around and take pictures. This is a perfect spot to check out during your 'Daegu Trip On A Budget Of ₩20,000.
Suseongmot (수성못)
- Price: ₩0
- Address: 대구 수성구 두산동
- Transportation: TBC Station, Exit 1
Suseongmot is a popular destination among Daegu locals! This lake boasts outstanding scenery including mountains along with the Suseongmot.
There are many cute cafes, pubs and bars near Suseongmot! I would like to recommend having a stroll along the lake after your meal or coffee time.
Suseongmot transforms into a beautiful photo spot when the sun is about to go down.
Even though the restaurants, cafes and bars may be a bit pricey near the Suseongmot area, it won't cost you at all to take a stroll around Suseongmot lake!
If you would like to check out the locals' favourite destination in Daegu, why don't you check here out?

Veggie Hotteok (₩1,000)
If you are feeling like sitting down in a small restaurant, you can also find bunsik restaurants inside the market to sit down and eat.
The place I visited is called 'Eden Bunsik' (에덴분식). I have ordered a bibim-guksu (spicy cold noodle) and gimbab, which was only ₩7,000 in total.
The combination of the bibim-guksu and gimbab is an A+. The smell of sesame oil and the taste of the spicy sauce with noodles was very satisfying!
Since Seomun Market is one of the must-visit places in Daegu, why don't you visit here and try different kinds of Korean street food while you budget your money?
