Unique and interesting cafes have captured a lot of attention due to their atmosphere and style in Mangwon-dong, a quaint neighbourhood just south of Hongdae.

Coffee Hospital, as the name indicates, is a hospital-themed cafe that has especially been a trendy destination for many in the area. Let's dive right in and see what all the fuss is about!

Just an 8-minute walk from Mangwon Station exit 8, you'll easily find the cafe situated in between adorable prop shops that are works by local designers.

The Sign Outside Reads, "Yoon Jin-Yeol, Pediatrician"

Can you see the pediatric sign on the outer wall of the old building? The actual name of the cafe is Coffee Hospital.

It's a building with a cafe where they actually had been running pediatrics for about 40 years, and you can still feel the hospital atmosphere.

In fact, the owner was inspired by a pediatrician who was extremely popular among local residents for a long time and now opened a cafe to mingle with the residents of Mangwon-dong over coffee and dessert.

Unlike the outside, the inside of the cafe was simple and clean.

Cute props like needles, pills, and prescription papers add to the hospital vibe. I ordered the signature Mangso Latte with "medicine", which is jelly beans served up like Korean pills from a pharmacy.

While waiting for coffee, I received the jelly I ordered first. I took the jelly out of the medicine packet and put it in my mouth. It felt like I was taking the pills I got from the hospital.

As well, unlike the cute visual, I was surprised to find that the jelly beans also had some surprisingly sour ones!

I asked the boss why and he said it's because it's actually a jelly that contains vitamins. 

After I placed an order on the first floor, I went to look around and wait.

The interior was lit using paper bags, which was a really interesting idea. Passing through the unique interior, you can see the outdoor seating.

There are about four to five tables for outdoor seating on the first floor, so it's nice to get refreshed in the autumn breeze in a quiet atmosphere!

One of the advantages of Mangwon-dong is that cafes are located in residential areas, so you can rest in a really quiet area without the hustle and bustle of the nearby neighborhoods, like Hongdae.

Next, I went up to the second floor. 

On the way to the 2nd floor, there was a cute sign suggesting that the 1st floor was pet friendly but the 2nd floor was not.

So if you have a beloved pet, you can bring them along, too! 

On the second floor, there was a much larger space than I found on the 1st floor.

The interior was warmer and more retro! In fact, props such as typewriters and medicine bottles from the days of yore really added to the ambience.

I think one of the benefits to this cafe was that it was separated essentially into sections: outdoor seats on the first floor and the indoor seats on the second floor.

My favorite spot in Mangwon-dong Pediatrics Café is right here! It was a room that reminded me of an art museum. The works of a real artist were displayed, so I could enjoy the art along with the coffee.

Also, each room has an outlet, so you can charge your phone after taking all those photos!

The Mangso Latte I ordered is also here! It is a condensed milk-based latte with vanilla cream and coconut chips!

First of all, after eating a spoonful of sweet vanilla cream and crispy coconut chips, I realized why this is a hospital-like cafe.

The taste was like a bite of delicious medicine that cured physical ailments, mental stress, and societal issues. Time ceased to exist and I drifted into bliss.

Recently, cafes have become a dime-a-dozen, but Mangwon-dong Pediatrics had a unique retro atmosphere and delicious coffee!

There are various items such as coffee, tea, soda, and so on. Coffee costs between ₩4,500 and ₩6,000, vitamin/soda/milk drinks cost ₩6,000, and the signature mango latte costs ₩6,500.

There's also a vitamin drink made of healthy ingredients to match the hospital concept! There were scones, basque cheesecake, and vitamin jelly for dessert.

Desserts in Mangwon-dong are so popular that they are always sold out early, so I hope you go early and try them!
