Just when it seemed like the COVID-19 situation in Korea and many other countries was under control, a second wave hit the world with full power.
The Korean government considered last week to be crucial for determining whether to raise the social distancing scheme from Level 2 to Level 3.
However, the government later concluded that moving to Level 3 would have an irreversible impact to the Korean economy, and instead opted to raise the scheme to Level 2.5, in between Level 2 and Level 3.
Cafes During Level 2.5
Out on a morning stroll, it used to be common to hear the singing from people taking part in the service of one of Seoul‘s many churches. After the service, many would gather for a chat in a coffee shop next to the church.
However, starting Sunday (August 30), the social distancing scheme in the Greater Seoul area was raised to Level 2.5. As a result, churches are now quiet, and many cafes and restaurants show a different look.

By the entrance, the following sign has been put up: “Only takeaway and delivery service available”.

Paik’s Coffee also only offer takeaway. Furthermore, you are required to leave your personal information (for tracking purposes in case of any COVID-19 cases).

Next we take a look inside Starbucks (Monday, August 31).
This store also doesn’t allow any drinking or eating inside the store.

Entrance and exit are also clearly separated.

As for restaurants, no eating or drinking inside will be allowed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Only takeaway and delivery services are allowed during these hours.
The Level 2.5 scheme will be in place for 8 days until September 6.
