While you travel in Korea, you will discover many small and curious things designed to make everyday life easier. Many of them great life hacks, these details make the country such a blast to visit.

1. Call Buttons In Restaurants

If you’re in a crowded restaurant, getting the attention of the staff can be a real challenge.

But in Korea, many restaurants have dedicated buttons on each table that you can press to have staff come over and take your order. No need to look for eye contact, raise your hand or shout!

2. Utensils Stored Under The Table

When I came to Korea for the first time, I couldn’t figure out where to find chopsticks and spoons in restaurants. That’s until a friend told me to look under the table.

It turns out that to save space, Koreans often attach a box under the table where they put chopsticks, spoons, and napkins. Remember this and you’ll save yourself a lot of time!

3. Subway Entrances For Children

At major train stations, you will often see gates like the one above. This is a free entrance exclusively for children under 6 years old and under 120 cm.

Don’t try to squeeze through as an adult!

4. Intersection Umbrellas

During the summer months, you often find these umbrellas at intersections, providing shade for people waiting for green light.

Summer in Korea can be scorching, and these umbrellas are a nice detail provided by the Korean government. And they’ll also help you keep dry during the rainy season.

5. Ice Blocks At Bus Stops

Like I said, Korean summers can be very hot.

Another measure that the government take to help people cope with the heat is to put boxes with ice blocks at bus stops. Touch them with your hands and cool off instantly! 

6. Finger Gloves

You are regularly provided with plastic gloves for dishes like fried chicken or chicken feet. But sometimes you get these finger gloves, perfect for grabbing a chicken club or french fries.

7. Blue Sponges On Cars

If you’ve been to Korea, you have certainly seen these small blocks on cars.

Although tiny, they are very effective in preventing scratching other cars when you open your door.

8. Vending Machines Galore

Did you think vending machines were only for drinks?

It seems like in Korea, you can put anything in a vending machine. How about socks, ice cream, flowers and even cameras!

9. Luggage Lockers In Train Stations

I love the prevalence of luggage lockers in Korea. It’s really handy when you’re traveling and don’t want to carry that heavy luggage around everywhere.

Just find an open locker and drop off your luggage. There are both small and large lockers to choose from.

10. Soap On A Stick

Most public toilets in Korea feature this blue hand soap. What’s special about it is how it’s often attached to a stick to keep the soap dry and clean!

11. Tree Fashion

Because trees can get cold too! In the winter, trees in Korea are dressed in warm and colorful sweaters! In other cases, they are wrapped up in straw.   

12. Bus Tents In The Winter

Not only trees but also people freeze in the winter. So every winter, the Korean government put up tents at bus stops to help people escape the cold while they wait for their bus.

13. Dog Strollers

If you see a stroller in Korea, chances are that it’s not a baby but a dog that will pop its head up. You’ll see plenty of these dog strollers in parks or in the street.
