Medical treatments in Korea are affordable and efficient, and the cleanliness of facilities is a huge bonus, too. That's why many tourists, visitors and foreign residents make busy visits to clinics once in Korea!

One of the major things people definitely get looked at are their teeth. I'm going to share my teeth cleaning and whitening experience at Cheongdam Bright Smile Dental Clinic.

The Procedure

I walked in and I was greeted by the staff at the front desk. I put my bag down on a chair and filled out my personal information (They only had the form available in Korean so you'll fill yours out on our website when you reserve).

Then, I grabbed a cup of water from the refreshments table and grabbed a seat on a chair waiting for my turn.

The waiting room of the clinic was bright and clean with magazines available on the coffee table. The calm vibe of the space calmed down my nervousness a little bit (but not completely!).

Tucked away between the wait room and the doctor's office was a small sink with toothbrushes and amenities for patients to use before their treatments.

X-Ray

In about 3 minutes, my name was called and one of the hygienists took me into the x-ray room.

There, I simply bit into the mouthpiece, held onto the handles with both my hands, and stood for 20 seconds or so.

Taking Photos & Checkup

Right after, they took me to a dental chair to have photos of my teeth taken.

The doctor then did an examination of my teeth which includes checks for cavities, wisdom teeth and the general health of the teeth.

Consultation

Soon after, the doctor called me into his office for a consultation.

The doctor found cavities on a couple of my molars which needed treating and recommended I get my wisdom teeth extracted at my earliest convenience as well. I was glad he gave me a straight-up advice on what I can do to further improve my dental hygiene and health.

Teeth Cleaning

The teeth cleaning was fast and simple, taking about 7 minutes for me.

Remember to raise your left hand anytime during the procedure if feeling any discomfort. For me, the sound of the machine on my teeth was a bit frightening, but it didn't physicall hurt.

Teeth Whitening

Before going ahead with it, the dentist told me that white spots that are easily found on teeth can come out brighter than other parts, which is a normal occurrence.

His thorough explanation throughout the whole experience helped me understand each step of it better.

Unlike the cleaning treatment, the teeth whitening procedure will have you hold a funny-looking squeaky toy for you to squeeze when feeling pain or discomfort.

This procedure consists of 3 sessions that last 15 minutes each, so including the preparation, it took about 55 minutes.

They took photos of my teeth again to compare the before and after. See how they turned out below!

Overall, my teeth look much cleaner and brighter!

The sample tooth shown in the photos above represents the average yellowness of teeth.

As you can see, mine were a bit brighter than the average to begin with, so the transformation wasn't super dramatic but I was very happy with the result!

Things To Note After Whitening

1. Colours stick better on teeth that have just gone through whitening. Avoid eating colouring foods such as coffee, curry, black bean noodles, red wine, grape juice, etc. As well, refrain from drinking carbonated beverages to fully optimize the whitening result.

2. At best, do not brush your teeth 3 hours before and after teeth whitening as toothpastes could numb the activeness of the whiteners.

3. Feeling tingly and sensitive on the teeth is a temporary effect caused by the nerves getting startled, but there's no need to worry as it goes away within 24 hours.

4. You can get even better results by using whitening toothpastes!

Why We Recommend It

Accessibility: The clinic is located minutes from Seolleung Station which is accessible via metro line 2 and the Bundang line.

Location: It's close to key attractions in Gangnam including the main shopping and recreational areas of Gangnam Station and the COEX mall at Samseong Station.

Hygiene: Cleanliness at dental clinics is very important and Cheongdam Bright Smile is spotless and well-maintained!

Efficiency: Although the teeth cleaning and whitening package involved lots of steps, I was in and out in less than 2.5 hours because the dental team was super efficient.

Service: The hygienists and the doctor made sure I wasn't feeling pain or discomfort throughout the entire procedure. They were very gentle and considerate.

Affordability: ₩130,000 for cleaning and whitening in Gangnam? Yes, please!

• The procedure takes up to two hours.
• Please be on time on the right date. Late-show may be subject to instant cancellation.
• Confirm your booking on-site through your mobile confirmation/payment confirmation.
• If extra services are purchased on-site, there is no need to change the booking. Payment should be made on-site.
• Changes and cancellations must be made at least 3 days prior to the reserved date.
• Please book at least two days in advance.
• Your booking will be confirmed within 24 hours.
• Please make a reservation by selecting the right amount of people.
• One person can make reservation for 2 or more products.
• Reservations must be made through Creatrip to be confirmed. Please note that reservations made directly with the hospital through a phone call may not be confirmed.
• If you add additional treatments on-site beyond your reservation, you can receive a 7-10% tax refund (passport required). However, scaling is subject to VAT and is not eligible for a tax refund.

How To Get There

Walk 200m straight from exit 10 of Seolleung Staion. You'll see the Gangnam Finance Plaza on the left. The dental clinic is on the 3rd floor of the building.
