Gongdeok's central location connecting 4 Seoul metro lines (lines 5, 6, Gyeongui Joungang and Airport Railroad) makes it deserving of a spot in your Hongdae, Hapjeong or Yeouido itineraries. It offers more local scenes consisting of authentic restaurants and cafes.
Young and Daughters is a tiny, but popular roastery located just outside of exit 4 of Gongdeok Station. Their quality beans and seasonal menus along with their adorable signature characters are what attracts returning customers to this cafe as well as draws attention on social media.
Their drinks are affordably priced, but it's only reasonable because there are no seats where customers can sit down.
You'll find their beans and merchandise for sale on the wooden shelves on one side of the wall.
In the back, you can take a peek inside their roastery room where the machine runs busily. The room is quite compact but it seems to be equipped with all the necessities!
The round standing tables are where you'll get to enjoy a refreshing cup of coffee. Because the space is so small and you can't sit down, it doesn't function as a cafe where you can sit and chat with friends and family for a good while. Rather, it's a good stop-by-for-good-coffee type cafe.
During our short 30-minute session at the round table, we noticed that most customers who came in were either coming in to purchase the beans or for take-outs.
Melting Latte (₩6,000)
We visited on a hot early summer's day and their season's special, Melting Latte, was already available on the menu. You get a cup of milk with a generous amount of vanilla beans and a cup that holds a popsicle made of their Natalie blend cold brew.
Pour a little bit of the sweet milk into the cup, stir the popsicle stick in it to take sweet sips of this unique latte with different levels of concentration.
You'll find their characters printed on each popsicle stick. How cute!
