Public supply of health masks (FK) ends today (July 11th).
A ’market supply system,' which starts tomorrow (July 12th), allows lenient purchases of KF masks at more diverse places.
Ever since the public mask rationing system was put into place, KF masks were only available at limited places of sale such as a pharmacy, Hanaro Mart, and post office, but they can be bought freely at a pharmacy, a mart, a convenient store, and online now. There will be no limits on quantity of purchase.
However, ‘surgical masks’ used at medical facilities maintain the current public supply system. Rather, the public supply has increased from 60% to 80%.
‘Droplet blocking masks’ which have high demands in summer will not be publicly supplied as planned. Instead, manufacture and supply capacity will be strengthened to secure civilian accessibility and convenience of purchase.
Weekly production of ‘droplet blocking masks’ increased from 370,000 in the first week of June to 34,740,000 in the first week of July. Authorities decided to take non-tolerance policy on unfair acts, such as cornering and hoarding.
Lee Eui-kyung the Director of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said, “When the mask supply is vulnerable, methods such as production expansion, export restriction and prohibition, government reserve stock supply are implemented,” and, “We will promptly enact public intervention measures including purchase quantity limit and purchase day system when an urgent situation is anticipated."
