The Gyeongbokgung area offers many things for you to do and see aside from visiting the palace. From Tongin Market and local shops to delicious eateries and cute cafes, you'll always find something to do in the area.

We needed a place to refresh after a busy morning on a hot summer's day around the area. Ma Chance was a great place to do so with aromatic, cooling tea and delicious scones.

Review

You'll find this quaint little teahouse not too far from Gyeongbokgung Station, Tongin Market and the palace. The teahouse is not big, but each of its corners is decorated with aesthetic colours and designs.

They offer a pretty extensive set of teas, so choose the one that you like or simply go with their 'Tea of the Day'. Be sure to pair your tea with their scones because the combinations are what Ma Chance is well-known for!

The Apple Scone (₩4,500) was delicious with a filling similar to that of an apple pie. The fluffy, cloudy scone with the apple flavour was perfect with a refreshing cup of tea.

The classic Plain Scone (₩3,000) was also tasty; it was really good just by itself with a sip of tea to wash the dry crumbs down, as well as with the cream and jam for the added creaminess and flavours.

Overall, for my friend and myself, Ma Chance provided the perfect hour of tranquil relaxation we needed after a long day around the palace. If you're around Gyeongbokgung and looking to grab revitalizing teas and delicious scones instead of coffee, check this place out!
