Although the situation of the COVID-19 outbreak in Korea has improved, the Minister of Justice announced a new policy for foreigners called "Re-entry Permit System" and "Submission of Diagnosis". From June 1st, even if you are a long-term resident, you have to obtain a re-entry permit before you leave Korea. Also, you must submit a medical certificate issued by a local medical center when entering Korea again.

Since 2010, the government has exempted re-entry permits if registered foreigners re-enter Korea within one year. However, starting this month, foreigners who leave Korea without a re-entry permit will have their current registration terminated.
However, overseas Koreans (F-4), diplomats (A-1), government officials (A-2), and International agreement (A-3) do not need to apply for re-entry permits.
Re-entry permits can be applied by visiting the immigration office or through an online application system in Hi Korea (www.hikorea.go.kr).
A medical certificate must be issued in Korean or English, two days (48 hours) before departure. It should include the presence or absence of symptoms related to COVID-19 and the date of inspection. However, overseas Koreans (F-4), diplomats (A-1), government officials (A-2), and International agreement (A-3) can re-enter the country without submitting a medical certificate.
Investors and entrepreneurs with a "Medical Examination Exemption Certificate" issued by overseas diplomats do not need to submit a medical examination results.
From now on, going in and out of Korea will be more difficult for foreigners. Even if you hold a long-term visa, please don't forget to apply for a re-entry permit before leaving the country.
