Today, Oppa will take you around Hwaseong Fortress located in Suwon! Hwaseong Fortress is a UNESCO world heritage site, so it's full of history. There are attractions in Suwon worth checking out other than Hwaseong Fortress like Haenggung, the Chicken Street and more! Get ready for a fantastic tour with Juwon Oppa. Let's Go! 

Jangamun

It is best to start your tour on the north gate of Hwaseong Fortress. You need to buy a ticket to enter Hwaseong Fortress, and it's only ₩1,000. If you want to look around the museum inside, it is best to buy an integrated ticket. The integrated ticket is ₩3,500. The entrance fee is free on Wednesday of each month as it's Cultural Day!

The great thing about Jangamun is that we get to see and feel its insides. Exploring a cultural heritage site was a breathtaking experience.

Seojangdae

Seojangdae is the highest place in Hwaseong and is renowned for its magnificent view. 

At this spot, Suwon and Hwaseong Fortress can be looked down upon at a glance. Make sure to stop by and enjoy the brilliant view!

There is Hyowon's Bell in Seojangdae. The first ring represents wishing for your parents' health, second is for other family members' health, and the third is for self-development.

For ₩1,000 you could strike this bell 3 times and experience the fascinating Korean tradition.

Haenggung

Haenggung is the biggest palace in Korea, so many movies and dramas were taken in this palace.

Not only is Haenggung the biggest palace, but it is also beautiful and majestic! To enter Haenggung you have to buy a separate ticket. For an adult, it costs ₩1,500 (If you wear a hanbok the entrance is free).

On weekends you can catch a martial arts performance at 11:00. If you have plans to visit on a weekend, remember to plan accordingly so you can catch the exciting performance.

Chicken Street

Today's Chicken Street of Suwon was established from chicken restaurants slowly opening one by one from 1970. The big chicken franchises can not be seen around here. It's all privately-run chicken restaurants. The most significant advantage is that each chicken restaurant has its own unique style, so you have many styles of chickens to choose from.

The Korean movie Extreme Job used this street as their shooting location. 

I went to Jinmi Chicken as it is the most famous chicken restaurant on Chicken Street.

Jinmi Chicken gives free fried chicken gizzard with your fried chickens. What a treat!  

Franchise chickens tend to be salty, sweet, or spicy, but the chicken here was not greasy, not too salty, not too sweet, just perfect!

Each table has its own sweet and sour sauce and mustard sauce. It is surprisingly tasty to eat fried chicken with the mustard sauce. You should really try it! I got half and half, but I think it would be better to get a full fried chicken. That way, you can mix and match the sauces yourself. 

If you come to Suwon, try local chicken that can only be found here. You won't regret it!

Haenglidangil

Around Haenglidangil, there are many pretty cafes and restaurants. It is one of the hottest places in Suwon if you crave coffee while in Suwon, head to Haenglidangil and grab one. 

Banghwasuryujeong Pavilion

The last stop is Banghwasuryujeong Pavilion. One of the most beautiful places on Hwaseong, with stunning sunsets and night views!

You'll find a pathway where you can see the pond and tranquil music being played with beautiful lighting. It makes a romantic spot for couples to enjoy their date and a great picnic spot. To top it off, there is a hot-air balloon ride where you can see a 360-degree view of Suwon. It's ₩18,000 for a 10-minute ride. 

Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon is not only a historical and cultural heritage site but also a wonderful place to experience different parts of Suwon. It would be especially beautiful when the spring flowers bloom and when the fall foliage is in full colour. How to Get There

Take the 8800 bus at Namdaemun Tax Office bus stop. 

Get off at Kyonggi University Suwon Campus Back Gate and get on the 700-2 bus.

Get off at Janganmun (It will take about one hour and will cost ₩3,100).
