A recent convenience food trend in Korea is to mix and match different itemts together, widely referred to as kkul-johab, which directly translates to "honey combination" and means optimal combinations. We decided to try some of the most popular combinations to see if they really live up to their hype.
Blue Lemonade + Milkis + Ice Cubes

₩1,700-2,500
This simple combination is a great refresher on a hot summer's day! The lemonade to Milkis ratio generally is 2:1 or 1:1, but you can feel free to play around with the ratio. If you're on the go, most convenience stores have cups with ice cubes available in their freezer too.

Tteokbokki + Tuna Triangular Kimbap + Cheese

₩3,500-5,000
The spicy flavour of the tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) devoured in with melted cheese and tuna gives a nice mix of textures from the chewy rice cake, chunky tuna and tender cheese. If you find tteokbokki too spicy for your taste, this is a great way to balance out the spiciness.

1. Pour hot water into the bowl and add on the triangular kimbap. Once the rice cake is tender and cooked, mix everything up. Put the lid on, pop it in the microwave for the time duration indicated on the package.

2. Put cheese of your choice into the bowl while it's still hot.

3. Cover it up with the lid for a couple of minutes so the cheese melts.

4. Enjoy your DIY tteokbokki!

Egg & Corn & Potato Salad + Fresh Cream Milk Bread

₩4,100
Mayonnaise-based creamy potato egg salad in between milky buns! This combination is almost impossible to fail. Simply mash up the salad and put it in between the buns to form a simple DIY sandwich.

Bibigo Mandu + Sari Gomtang

₩4,400
Bibigo Mandu (dumplings), available in a variety of flavours can be easily found outside of Korea as well. Sari Gomtang (beef bone soup) is normally hearty soup people like to eat with rice, but this noodle version is the simpler way of getting a taste of it.

This is a good combination for those who don't get full off of cup noodles. Adding mandus to the mix completes it into a satisfying meal.

Oh Gamja + Cheese

₩1,700-2,500
Oh Gamja, a classic potato snack that has been around for decades, has a crunchy texture and is available in many different flavours. We picked up the potato gratin flavour and added two types of cheese on top. Microwave the mix on low heat for just enough that the cheese is nicely melted. Some people finish these off with ketchup, hot sauce and/or barbeque sauce on top too.

All of the above combinations were very flavourful and filling! There's no doubt that these are popular instant food combinations loved by locals here. If you need something on-the-go or just want to try something new here, consider these options!
