Hongdae Cafe : Dinga Cake House | Reviews
Dinga Cake House, located in a remote area near Hongdae, is a cafe that looks like it came straight out of a dream. The exterior from the outside is full of pastel tone colors, making it look like a cute little house.
There's also a small entrance on the side of the building! This is where customers can pick up whole cakes they've pre-ordered.
Right in front of the entrance, there was a giant cook book model. Turns out, Dinga Cake House's cakes are so popular, they've even released a cook book containing the secret recipes for the cakes! This really made us excited to taste the cakes.
The inside of the cake house also had the pastel tones, but together with decorations that really gave the whole interior a cozy vibe. It had large windows, so there was a lot of natural light brightening up the cafe in the daytime! Also, because we visited during the holiday season, the whole cafe was filled with Christmas decorations. It really got us in a festive mood!
I could go on and on about how beautiful the interior was, but the true hero of the cafe wasn't the interior. The cakes that were on display looked breathtaking. The whole cakes displayed on the top row were decorated in Christmassy designs, and were available for customers who had pre-ordered. The sliced cakes had such diverse designs that were all incredibly beautiful. From the classic designs of the Victoria Cake and the Cookies & Cream Cake, the flowery designs of the Earl Grey Cake, all the way to the pizza design of the Red Velvet Cake, all of the cakes were decorated beautifully with different concepts. Even the cupcakes were decorated with snowmen!!
After ordering, we headed upstairs. Since there are many seats on both the first and second floor, it wasn't too difficult finding seats. You probably won't need to worry too much about the cafe being full of people.
We quickly found seats on the second floor. The second floor was also very cozy, with beautiful pastel tones and decorations. You can tell they've really paid attention to making the whole cake house experience aesthetically pleasing.
There were also seats outdoors, on the balcony! We visited in the wintertime, so it was a bit too cold to sit outside, but the outdoor seats would also be great when the weather is nice.
After a while, our order arrived. We ordered a milk tea, a matcha latte, a lemon cake, and an earl grey cake! Since there were two of us, we ordered two drinks. Remember, in order to eat inside, you must order at least one drink per person.
This is the milk tea and the matcha latte! The drinks were honestly a bit too sweet for our taste, but it's mainly an issue of personal preference. If you have a sweet tooth, their drinks might be just for you!
You're probably more curious about their cakes. First, this was the lemon cake. Even before you eat it, doesn't it just look so cute?? Honestly, just looking at the face of the snowman, we almost felt bad about eating it because it was almost like we were ruining a piece of art. Nonetheless, we were also curious about the flavor.
Because it was a lemon cake, we were expecting a somewhat sour cake, but the taste of this lemon cake was actually rather sweet, with the scent of a lemon, which was very harmonious.
After we ate a bit more, however, the lemon cake revealed its true colors. The center of the lemon cake was filled with a lemon-flavored custard, with the sour, citrusy flavor of lemon. The sour flavor of the custard together with the sweet bread and the cream on top was a very harmonious flavor, which we would highly recommend.
Next, this is the earl grey cake! Decorated with cream in flower shapes, the design of the cake was phenomenal. Again, we were hesitant to ruin the artistic visual of the cake, but once we dug in, we couldn't stop. The scent of earl grey tea together with the sweetness of the cake, and the slight saltiness of the cream was a harmony that is not easily forgotten. However, the decorations are all done with cream, meaning there's quite a lot of cream on the cake. If you personally don't like the taste of cream, you might prefer eating the cake while scraping off some of the cream.
All in all, Dinga Cake House was a dreamy experience, from the cafe's exterior and interior to the design of the cakes. But moreover, the cakes themselves were incredibly delicious.
If you're visiting the Hongdae area, make sure to drop by Dinga Cake House, and add flavor to the dreams you've always had about your tea party.
