When it comes to food in Korea, you have hundreds of options and to make decision making easier, lots of streets of Seoul specialize in one kind of dish. Today we're going to introduce you to some of the major food streets of the city.
Seoul Food Streets
1. Hoegi Pajeon Street
- Public Transportation: Line 1, Hoegi station exit 1. Walk towards left.

When you enter the alley not too far from the station, you'll see a line of restaurants selling pajeon(green onion pancake). I personally love coming to this place and ordering one pajeon and a bottle of makgeolli (rice wine) to share among 2-3 people.
One pajeon is huge and the price is decent too. Hoegi Pajeon Street is most loved by Kyung Hee University students and locals who reside in the area.
Enjoy the local vibe while treating yourself to the crispy pajeon with chewy seafood chunks inside. Dipping pajeon pieces into the specialty soy sauce adds a savoury flavour too.
2. Sindang Tteokbokki Town
- Public Transportation: Sindang station (Line 2 and 6) exit 8 -> Make a left at the alley in front.
Sindang area is popular for the Tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) Town, with around 10 Tteokbokki vendors each with its own characteristics and fanbase. If you're a Tteokbokki lover, you must come to Sindang Tteokbokki Town! I'll introduce you guys to one of my favourites, in case you're wondering which out of the 10 to choose.
The tteokbokki dishes you get are not like the basic tteokbokki you get from street stalls. This tteokbokki is rich in ingredients, cooked and boiled in a large pot, making your index finger tap the table with anticipation. I recommend Maboknim Wonjo Halmeonijip Makenae Adeulnae (Maboknim Grandma's Youngest Son's Branch). I still remember trying their tteokbokki for the first time, a bite of the chewy rice cake covered in hot and sweet sauce was an unforgettable taste.
3. Jongno 3-ga Food Cart Street
- Public Transportation: Jongno 3-ga station (Line 1, 3, 5) exit 4
mediask
One of the experiences foreign visitors count on the most has to be the Korean food cart experience but a lot of the times they're not sure where exactly to go for such experience. Most locals come to pojang-macha(food cart) to get food with drinks and Jongno 3-ga is one of the most popular food cart spots in Seoul.
4. Majangdong Meat Market
- Public Transportation: Yongdu station (Line 2) exit 4
The highest quality beef you can find in Korea is Hanwoo (Korean beef)! Majang area of Seoul has a huge market that specializes in Korean beef. When you're picking out the meat, keep in mind to pick out the 1++ grade Korean beef because all grades below that might not be worth the price. Going to Majang Meat Market is to try the best of Korean beef after all.
If you don't have a specific vendor in mind, just talk to any employees standing in front of the stalls and ask questions. They'll introduce you to different parts of the cow and feel free to choose the one that catches your eye. I've been to Majanggol, one of the places in the market that serves 1++ premium hanwoo.
5. Gongdeok Jokbal Street
- Public Transportation: Gongdeok station (Line 5 and 6) exit 4

Gongdeok Jokbal Street, located in the Mapo area, used to have multiple small restaurants gathered side by side, but when the business started booming, it developed into a huge jokbal (pig's feet) street. Boasting a large userbase, the street fills up with working professionals stopping by for a bite after work.

The street has a very tame local vibe and food seems cheaper than average too. The tang of the vegetables balances out what could be a piece of rather greasy meat. Delish!
6. Namdaemun Hairtail Alley
- Public Transportation: Hoehyeon station (Line 4) exit 5
Don't you guys just love Namedaemun Market? This giant, authentic Korean market has everything from hair combs to dried fruits. In one of the many tiny alleys lies a line of hairtail restaurants. Namedaemun Hairtail Alley is only known to Seoul locals who have been around the area for some time.
There are so many good hairtail restaurants inside the alley, every place has a long lineup. If you're in the mood to try authentic grilled hairtail, a humble dish often seen on the table of Korean households, go to Namdaemun Market. Just line up at any of the places with long lines. The aroma of the fish is sure to open up your appetite and wallet.
7. Namdaemun Kalguksu Street
- Public Transportation: Hoehyeon station (Line 4) exit 4
Another popular option in Namdaemun Market, kalguksu (hand-chopped noodles) comes in a large bowl and is cheap at around ๏ฟฆ6,000. Bibimbap and cold noodles are also available at the same price range, so if you're looking for cheap, but good eats, then Namdaemun Kalguksu Street is the place!
Look at how big the dishes are in the pictures! I almost couldn't believe that one bowl was for one person. These simple but delicious dishes are suitable for those looking for a modest, localized experience.
8. Myeongdong Street Food
- Public Transportation: Euljiro 1-ga station (Line 2) exit 6 and Myeongdong station (Line 4) exit 6, Myeongdong Lotte underground pathway exit 15 and 18

Every visitor from abroad has heard of Myeongdong street food. There's a street full of street food just across the street from Lotte Young Plaza, serving food to countless tourists.
Lots of people criticize Myeongdong street food stalls for pricing their food too high, and some of the food options make people shake their heads in confusion and disbelief. If you're really running tight on time, but would still like to get a taste of Korea's street food, then come to conveniently-located Myeongdong.
9. Dongdaemun Chicken Street
- Public Transportation: Jongno 5-ga station (Line 1) exit 5
The superstar on this street is called Jinokhwa Halmae Original Chicken Restaurant. But, your option is not limited to this restaurant only, there are other chicken restaurants that also serve up delicious chicken soup.
The other places on the street don't have crazy lineups like Jinokhwa does, but are still frequented by locals who want a hot pot of soup with a whole chicken inside. Next time you're in Dongdaemun, make sure you check out this local scene!
