Gyerim Sikdang I How to Get There
Gyerim Sikdang I Reviews
I finally got to step inside the 50-year-old restaurant that serves dak-bokkeum-tang (braised spicy chicken) in a small alley of Jongno.
If you're like me and can't pass up garlic-flavoured dishes, you've got to go to this place!
The chicken place is located inside a small alley so it took me some time to find it.
Make sure you look for the bright red sign with 50 years of tradition written on top.
A lot of Korean locals will squeeze themselves in the small alley just to get a taste of the chicken.
Expect to wait for at least 30 minutes on weekday evenings and nights. If you'd rather avoid the lineup, I recommend you go a bit earlier!
We waited for about 30 minutes and finally got seated!
They only have one item on the menu, so all you have to do once you sit down is choose the portion size.
Because I went with one other person, we ordered a small.
The meat was very tender and fell right off the bone. Overall, it had a really strong garlic taste which I loved! Giant chunks of potatoes and pieces of rice cake went really well with the meat and rice dipped in the soup.
If you're not full afterwards, make sure you order fried rice or fried noodle which get fried in the pot with leftover sauce. Keep in mind that last call for fried rice and fried noodles is at 17:00 on weekdays and 14:00 on weekends. You can only order one of the two (sad ).
