Hongdae Idaejo Bbyeodagui I How to Get There
Make a left right outside exit 2 of Hongik University station. Walk straight until you see a sign that has the number 24. That's the sign for the restaurant, representing its accommodating hours.
A lot of people had been there so I was filled with anticipation!
The restaurant only has floor tables, so we had to take off our shoes at the front door and have them kept at the shoe rack.
I went at around noon so it was filled with people eating lunch.
Right when you sit down, the server will bring side dishes to your table. We ordered 2 people's portion of gamjatang, and it was served quickly after and put over our stove.
The soup is served with perilla leaves and lots of foreigners don't like the taste of it. If you'd like to exclude them from the soup, please remember to ask the server right when you order. Perilla leaf in Korean is kkaennip(깻잎).
The pork ribs have been cooked to softness already so it just has to be boiled once more over the stove. Each piece is really big and full of flavours. I just kept eating piece by piece.
Mustard sauce is also available for an added flavour. It's not super spicy and it was just enough to add a nice spicy hint to the meat.
The menu at Idaejo Bbyeodagui is really simple with just three items. I recommend getting their popular gamjatang because we instantly fell in love with the flavour.
We ordered the small (₩26,000) for two people and you can add more pork bone for ₩16,000 and more vegetables for ₩2,000.
After eating gamjatang, you can also add fried rice, ramen noodles or sujebi (hand-pulled dough) to be cooked over your leftover soup. Because I had a bowl of white rice with the pork bone soup, I had no room left for any additions but when I looked around, I could see that lots of people were ordering fried rice and ramen noodles.
If you're ever in Hongdae and craving comfort food, try Idaejo Bbyeodagui no matter what time of the day it is. Idaejo Bbyeodagui's door is always open.
