Euljiro's unique charm comes from the coexistence of tall concrete buildings and small old shops on the streets. Also, Euljiro's day and night scenes are completely different!

Euljiro

Euljiro is located close to Seoul's tourist hot spot, Myeongdong. If you walk along Cheonggyecheon, you will know you've arrived at Euljiro when you see a crossing of old and new buildings on either side.

Euljiro is a key business district in Seoul but its distinctive characteristic makes people also feel like they've travelled back to the 60s and 70s. Old rusty signs on small stores are good contributors. To get to Euljiro, you get off at one of the three stations that have Euljiro in the name.

It's currently winter in Korea so recently I've been often craving a hot boiling bowl of soup with rice on the side. Among the many cuisines at Euljiro, Dongwon Jib is the most popular with its gamja soup. Ribs and potatoes are served in a hot boiling bowl and it's got an unforgettable taste and texture. The family operating this restaurant has over 40 years of history here.

More than 300kg of pork bones are sold here daily and you can see the giant pile of meat at the front door, each pork bone long and big.

It's only ￦8,000 for a one-person bowl. Plus, they also come in small, medium and large so you can order depending on the size of your group.

The rich pork ribs and fragrant soup are different from other gamja soup I have tried before because they don't put dried cabbage, radish leaves and sesame powder here which brings out the spiciness and the pure flavour of the ribs more significantly.

Euljiro Cafe | Jan(잔)

Koreans love to get coffee after a nice meal. This place is perfect for that occasion! What's unique about Jan is that they have an array of cups and mugs on display and customers pick and choose ones they want their coffee to be served in.

What's even more unique about this place is that it becomes a bar after 7pm so you can see lots of locals come here for different reasons.   

Jan serves cheesecake that looks like the one from Tom and Jerry's! The outer layer is chocolate and the inside is spongey cake. Oppa liked that it's not overly sweet. 😋

Euljiro Nice Place for a Stroll | Cheonggyecheon(청계천)

Oppa recommends a nice walk along Cheonggyecheon after eating and drinking. You can soak your feet in the water, take pictures and enjoy the relaxing vibe here. Let's walk from Euljiro down to Sewoon Building (toward Dongdaemun).

A lot of people have probably heard of Han River. Cheonggyecheon is among the little streams that flow into Han River. 

Lots of seasonal events and festivals are held here including Seoul Bandokkaebi Night Market that's open from late spring to early autumn. Cheonggyecheon's night views are popular photo items on social media too.

Euljiro TourㅣSewoon Building(세운상가)

Sewoon Building has an elevator that takes us straight up to the rooftop. From the rooftop, you can see down to Gwangjang Market, N Seoul Tower, Jongmyo and many other key areas of Seoul. We were told that the night scenery is even more beautiful. When the weather is warmer, they host live music performances too.

Euljiro Food | Manseon Hof (만선호프)

Manseon Hof is located in the area that attracts a large crowd on the streets in the evenings. Many locals come to this area for dinner and drinks because of its cheap prices.

The signature dish is friend chicken with garlic. The savoury garlic with a little bit of sweetness makes the taste of the chicken a memorable one.

Oppa highly recommends this place if you're keen on trying out food enjoyed by Koreans on ordinary days.
