Haeseong Makchangjip | Haeundae

Hi everyone. We're Creatrip, your personal Korean travel guide.

When it comes to Haeundae, people think of beachside and seafood. But there is another option other than seafood which is loved by local people in Haeundae. There is a delicious Makchang (beef rectum), and Daechang (beef intestine) restaurant named Haeseong Makchangjip (해성막창집). They have many branches in Busan, and the one I got to try out is their birthplace.

Haeseong Makchangjip I Review

The first thing that catches your eye is the super-bright signboard, and every mealtime there's a long queue. They open till 3am.

The way to order food here is quite specific. The main menus are Makchang (beef rectum) and Daechang (beef intestine) and Gob-chang Jeongol (Spicy beef tripe soup), and they are all high-quality Hanwoo (Korean beef).

How to order at Haeseong Makchangjip

  • You must order at least 3 servings for the Makchang (beef rectum) or Daechang (beef large intestine). When ordering extra, you must order at least 2 servings.
  • After ordering the Makchang and Daechang, if you want to eat the Gob-chang Jeongol, you must order at least 2 portions.
  • If you only order Gob-chang Jeongol, you have to order one per person.

Do you think this way of ordering is out of order? But this place is still full of people. So I had to try it for myself and see what the fuss was about.

A table full of side dishes at Haeseong Makchangjip in Haeundae, Busan, with Makchang grilling in the center.

I was quite shocked when the food came out. The first time goers think Makchang and Daechang look off-putting. Although it seems gross, the taste is something else. After being grilled and chewed, it's juicy and sweet. Fat oozing out of the meat is just sensational.

Once you've tasted it, you'll understand why there are long queues and no complaints about the ordering system. The quality is spot on.

I recommend grilling it until slightly burnt, so when you chew it the outside is crispy and the sweet fat inside is like jelly. The taste doesn't get old.

After eating Makchang and Daechang, you must move on to Gob-chang Jeongol. Think of Makchang and Daechang as a starter and the main is Gob-chang Jeongol.

Crispy, flavorful Bokk-eumbab (fried rice) at Haeseong Makchangjip in Haeundae, mixed with remaining pan juices and herbs.

At the end of the meal, be sure to add Bokk-eumbab (fried rice) and mix it with all the remaining food in the pan. It's the perfect way to end a meal here.

This place was one of the best restaurants I have been to and will not forget its taste and memories. I strongly suggest you visit this place and try its tasty food.
