Our Visit

I found this Hongdae Ring Cafe through the alley of Hongdae. When I entered the cafe, I was greeted by the bright atmosphere. Even though I visited in the middle of the day, a lot of couples were already making rings. There was only one seat left for me at that moment. The staff of the cafe greeted me with a huge smile.

When I sat down, one of the staff helped me out. There's also a manual where you can read the whole process of making rings. (It's available in English and Chinese)

While I was reading the manual, the staff showed me the sample rings. As there are so many sample rings, so take it easy. Once you put on a ring, you may wear it for a long time, so you'd better choose it carefully. Staff also knows this fact and they waited for us calmly.

After I decided on the ring I want, I discussed the specific design. On the order form, you'll write down the shape you want, whether you want engraving, birthstone, etc. Then, I measured the size of my finger.

Most of the women choose 2.5mm and 3.8mm. However, if you want it thick, I recommend the 5mm ring.

I chose 2.5mm(40,000KRW) sized ring!

They'll measure your finger with this measuring item.

I believe there'll be a lot of people who want their rings engraved. I was also thinking about it, so the staff handed me over this brochure with text samples. I guess a lot of people also have trouble picking out what they want.

Ring circling and soldering are done by the staff. As this process include some fire works, it may be dangerous. Other than this process, you have to make it by yourself.

After circling the ring is finished, you have to do the size fitting. Put the ring in this metal bar and hammer it with a wooden hammer. Before the size fitting, staff will tell you the instruction meticulously on how to bang it with a hammer. Caution! You have to fasten the end of the metal stick to your stomach and then beat it with a wooden hammer. If you don't fasten it to your stomach, your shoulder and neck might get hurt. So, please make sure to fasten it well on your belly.

First, draw a line where the ring would fit. And then you are going to beat it with a wooden hammer. Hammer it by slowly turning the metal. Beat it until the ring fits the line on the metal.

Tap the sides of the ring which can be slightly bumpy with a small hammer. This process is to make a ring that looks more tidy and neat.

For the soft finish of the ring, you are going to do sandpaper work. Grind the top and bottom of the ring into sandpaper.

The rings have to be soft inside so it'll be comfortable with your fingers, right? The next step is inner edges work. You can press the inside of the ring with a metal ring.

If you are finished with inner edge work, you have to do the polishing work. For twinkling rings, it needs a shine! This process is called 'Handpiece work'.

Trim the edges of the ring carefully as if you are wiping the ring gently. Don't trim the inside of the ring too much! Or else, the size of the ring can get bigger.

When the ring began to shine, it is now time to engrave the letters! The staff kindly showed me the process of engraving letter into the ring!

Please keep in mind that you have to pay on-site separately for engraving, birthstone, and diamond simulants.

Aww..aren't these rings shining bright like a star? The fact that I made it from scratch made me so proud. And as I was proud of my rings, the experience of making the rings were so much memorable and precious.
