Today, I visited the awesome "Ungteori Saenggogi" restaurant in Myeong-dong! It's one of those sizzling barbecue joints that foreign tourists simply must check out when they visit Korea. When it comes to Korean BBQ, the word on everyone's lips is "value for money". That's where Ungteori Saenggogi shines, with its perfect balance of quality and price! The restaurant is located on the second floor and as soon as you step in, you're greeted with a clean and comfortable atmosphere that's perfect for enjoying your meal.

Once you walk in, you'll be seated at a table complete with a sizzling hot pot of soybean paste stew, oil dishes, tongs, and scissors for all your BBQ needs. Plus, don't fret about any pesky meat smells, because our chairs are designed to stash any belongings beneath the seat, keeping the aroma at bay. Now, shall we take a look at the guidelines for our restaurant?

It may be all-you-can-eat but there is a limit time of 2 hours to be mindful of the time! You can find the bathroom on the 3rd floor and drinks are paid separately!

A unique thing about Ungteori Saenggogi is that the meat is also self-serve at the buffet bar! But don't go crazy with the meat because if you leave leftovers, you'll have to pay a 3,000 KRW environmental surcharge. Next to the meat are the garlic, ssamjang, kimchi, lettuce wraps, and other sauces and side dishes! All the must-have ingredients for the perfect K-BBQ meal.

We used the tray to bring over what was needed to our table.

Just a heads up, there aren't any utensils in the drawer next to your table, but you'll find napkins, wet wipes, and a bottle opener. Don't forget to grab your cutlery from the self-serve station!

Before grilling the meat, the owner recommended trying it with wasabi for an extra kick of flavor.

Water is also self-serve. Just grab a bottle from the red basket next to the water cooler and fill it up! You can use the paper cups above the cooler for your water as well.

Now, it's time for the most excruciating part of K-BBQ: waiting for the meat to cook. Place your pork on the grill and wait until the side on the grill gets golden brown.

You may be wondering what the tin bowl on the grill is. The brown liquid is actually sesame oil! In the tin bowl, place your garlic, bean sprouts, and kimchi to cook them! It's the perfect pair with pork belly.

Cook the pork until it looks done. Make sure to check it often so it doesn't burn. Also, give the tin bowl a mix so the garlic doesn't burn.

The soybean stew in the middle will be bubbling away. If it looks dry if you think the soup has evaporated too much, just let the staff know and ask for a refill.

Bowl of rice 1,000 KRW

Assorted mushrooms 4,800 KRW

Steamed egg 4,800 KRW

Bibim Naengmyeon 6,800 KRW

As the meat cooks, the sides we ordered started to come to our table one by one.

Here are some of the best combos for the perfect bite:

1. Place a piece of cooked mushroom and kimchi on a piece of pork.

The different textures of pork and mushroom are surprisingly a good pair.

2. Just a pinch of salt.

Enjoy the full flavor of pork with just a simple pinch of salt.

3. Place some wasabi on the pork.

The wasabi cuts the fat of the pork and leaves an aromatic flavor!

4. Wrap it in some kimchi.

If you know this combo, you're basically Korean. The bounciness of the meat and crunchiness of the kimchi is the all-time best pairing.

5. Wrap your meat with some bibim noodles.

This combo will blow your mind. You won't be able to enjoy K-BBQ without cold noodles anymore.

Make sure to try the steamed egg in between bites to cleanse your palate! And make sure to eat as much as you want because it's all protein and is super healthy for you, duh.
