The Day's Hair Grove Hongdae | Custom Color & Perm Salon

One of the must-try K-beauty experiences on a trip to Korea is getting your hair styled. Many international travelers visit salons to try Korean trends for themselves, from layered cuts to natural-looking curls.

In particular, when getting a perm, it is important to create a design based on your current hair condition, previous treatments, and natural curl pattern, rather than simply showing a photo and copying the style. Even with the same perm style, the results can vary greatly depending on the size of the rods used and where the curls are placed.

Today, we're introducing The Day's Hair Grove, located in the Hongdae–Yeonnam area.

With more than 15 years of experience, the salon's director provides 1:1 consultations and treatments, specializing in hair coloring, creative color services, and customized perms for women.

This time, our model received a 'Digital Perm + Cut'. What stood out most was how the stylist first checked the curl shape with a test curl before beginning the perm, then carefully connected the curled and uncurled sections to create a seamless design.

Now, let's take a closer look at the treatment process our editor observed in person.

Why Choose 'The Day's Hair Grove'?

1. One-on-One Personalized Services by a Director with Over 15 Years of Experience

The Day's Hair Grove is a newly opened salon by Director Dean, who previously worked as the head director at a popular Creatrip hair salon.

With over 15 years of experience, Director Dean first discusses your hair condition and desired style, then personally provides your service one-on-one from start to finish.

2. A Detailed Perm Process, From Test Curls to Seamless Blending

The Day's Hair Grove 19.png

The most important part of getting a perm is creating the desired curls as naturally as possible.

At The Day's Hair Grove, a test curl is done before starting the digital perm in earnest.

This process helps prevent the curls from turning out too loose or, conversely, too tight, while allowing the stylist to create a style as close as possible to the desired look.

After the perm, the stylist also used a flat iron to carefully refine each transition area, creating a natural blend between the curled and uncurled sections. This helps shape the overall silhouette of the hairstyle.

3. A Premium Salon with Separate Spaces for Head Spas and Hair Treatments

At The Day's Hair Grove, each floor has a clearly defined purpose.

The first floor is dedicated to head spas, 5sense, and treatments, while the second floor is used for hair services such as cuts, coloring, and perms.

4. A Yeonnam Hair Salon Convenient for International Travelers

'The Day's Hair Grove' is conveniently located for enjoying both Hongdae and Yeonnam during your visit.

  • It is easy to plan a hair appointment alongside a day of visiting cafés or shopping in Yeonnam, making it a great choice for anyone who wants to include a K-beauty experience in their travel itinerary.
  • The salon offers communication in English, and there is also a perm stylist who speaks Chinese, so international customers can enjoy consultations more comfortably.
  • There is a luggage storage area on the first floor, making it convenient to visit before or after your flight. However, as the building does not have an elevator, it is best to leave large suitcases on the first floor before heading to the treatment area.
  • You can choose water or a beverage before your appointment, and refreshments are also available upon request, allowing you to relax comfortably during longer treatments.

Our Editor's Experience at 'The Day's Hair Grove'

This time, our model tried the 'Digital Perm + Haircut' treatment.

The treatment takes approximately 180 to 240 minutes, and an additional charge may apply on-site for extra-long hair, like our model's.

1. Choosing a Drink & Preparing for the Service

When we arrived at the salon, we were asked to leave our bags and change into gowns.

We chose our preferred drinks and waited for a while as we enjoyed them.

The first floor was dedicated to head spa treatments. The space had a quiet and sophisticated atmosphere, making it an ideal place to relax if you visit for a head spa.

Once we were ready, we moved to the hair treatment area on the second floor.

Natural light streamed in through the large windows, creating a bright and comfortable atmosphere throughout the second floor. It felt like a relaxing space where customers could comfortably spend several hours getting a perm or hair coloring treatment.

2. Checking Hair History & Hair Consultation

The Day's Hair Grove 9.png

Before beginning the treatment, we had a thorough consultation with the designer.

The model showed the stylist photos of her desired hairstyle, and they reviewed her current hair condition and treatment history.

The Day's Hair Grove 13.png

Since the model had fairly long hair, we reviewed approximately four years of hair history.

They had not had a perm or hair straightening treatment in the past four years, but had dyed their hair black about a year ago. Overall, their hair was not significantly damaged, but we also took into account the slight natural curl in their hair when planning the treatment.

After the consultation, we decided to go with a hush-style digital perm and haircut, taking the model's overall look and preferred style into consideration.

3. Trimming Damaged Ends

The Day's Hair Grove 11.png

We started with a haircut.

While maintaining the model's long length, the stylist trimmed the damaged ends and shaped the hair overall so the curls would fall naturally afterward.

Rather than perming the hair first, the stylist refined the haircut to match the desired final silhouette. It felt like the treatment was carried out with the shape of the finished curls in mind from the beginning.

4. Applying the Perm Solution & Softening Process

The Day's Hair Grove 14.png

Once the haircut was finished, the model's hair was rinsed thoroughly before we began the main perm process.

The Day's Hair Grove 15.png

The perm solution was carefully applied according to the condition of the model's hair. The stylist divided the model's hair into upper and lower sections and worked on them separately in two stages.

The Day's Hair Grove 16.pngEven on the same person, hair can have different levels of damage and react differently to the solution depending on its location, so the stylist continued checking the model's hair condition throughout the process.

I was impressed that the stylist kept checking the model's hair between each step and used those observations to decide how to proceed.

5. Checking the Curl Size with a Test Curl

This was one of the most impressive steps in the perm process at 'The Day's Hair Grove.'

The Day's Hair Grove 18.png

Before curling all of the hair, they first performed a No. 20 test curl.

They wrapped a section of hair coated with the perm solution around a rod, applied heat for about 15 minutes, and then checked how much of the actual curl had formed.

The Day's Hair Grove 19.png

Based on the results, they determined which rod size would create the most natural-looking curls for the model's hair.

Because they test the curl on a small section before starting the full treatment, it helps prevent the curls from turning out too loose or too tight, which I really appreciated.

The Day's Hair Grove 20.png

They rinsed the hair thoroughly before moving on to the next step.

6. The Digital Perm Begins

After checking the test curl, we began the digital perm in earnest.

The Day's Hair Grove 22.png

This treatment uses a moisture-based heat-perm method, so the stylist carefully wrapped the rods while keeping the moisture the hair needed.

The Day's Hair Grove 21.png

What stood out most was that the digital perm machine was connected to the ceiling.

The Day's Hair Grove 44.png

When many rods are wrapped around long hair, their weight can usually feel quite heavy. However, because the machine was connected from above, the model was able to wait with relatively little discomfort.

Once every section had been carefully wrapped, the stylist brought another drink so the model could relax comfortably. Although the treatment took some time, this thoughtful service made it easy for the model to wait comfortably.

7. Connecting the Curls for a Seamless Look

The Day's Hair Grove 25.png

After removing the rods, the curls were already beautifully shaped.

However, the treatment was not finished just yet.

The Day's Hair Grove 23.png

The stylist carefully checked the transition between the curled and uncurled sections, one by one.

The Day's Hair Grove 24.pngUsing a flat iron, they smoothed the hair and made sure the curls flowed naturally into the straight sections.

This was one of the most impressive parts of the process for our editor.

When we think of a perm, the process of wrapping the hair around rods to create curls usually comes to mind. Here, however, the curls were designed in meticulous detail, with careful attention to how they connected and how the overall silhouette would look.

This small difference seemed to be what created the natural look of the final result.

8. Neutralizing & Treatment

The Day's Hair Grove 27.png

After checking the curl shape, they carefully applied the neutralizer.

The Day's Hair Grove 29.png

Once the neutralizing process was complete, they rinsed the hair again and applied a treatment.

The Day's Hair Grove 28.png

Since the model had received a perm on her long hair, she was concerned about its condition. However, after the treatment, her hair looked noticeably smoother and more manageable.

The Day's Hair Grove 30.png

Finally, they applied hair oil. The model especially liked this product because of its subtle fragrance.

9. How to Dry Your Hair at Home

The Day's Hair Grove 31.png

To help maintain the finished curls at home, they also gave us detailed instructions on how to dry our hair.

They showed us which direction to twist our hair while drying it and how to shape the curls for a natural-looking style.

We loved that they explained how to recreate a similar look at home, rather than having it look great only at the salon.

The model also said that she had never been sure how to dry her hair properly, and that the explanation was genuinely helpful.

Finished Digital Perm

The Day's Hair Grove 42.png

Here is the finished look at last!

The model's long hair was preserved, creating natural, voluminous curls throughout.

Rather than tightly wound curls, the soft, flowing shape complemented the model's overall look beautifully.

The Day's Hair Grove 43.png

The layers and curls connected naturally not only from the front but also from the back, creating a beautiful overall silhouette.

The final result clearly reflects the detailed process, from checking the curl size with a test curl before the treatment to carefully refining the connections between each curl at the end.

Our Editor's Overall Review

What impressed me most about the 'Digital Perm + Cut' at 'The Day's Hair Grove' was that the treatment is designed around each customer's hair history and current hair condition, rather than simply replicating a trendy style.

Before starting the perm, they used a test curl to check the curl level in advance. During the finishing process, I was also able to see the meticulous work that went into naturally blending the curled and uncurled sections.

Another major advantage is that the director or stylist personally handles the entire process one-on-one, from consultation to finishing. I would especially recommend it to anyone who has a photo of their desired hairstyle but is unsure how it will look with their own hair.

The head spa area and hair treatment area are also separated by floor, allowing you to enjoy your treatment in a comfortable environment. English and Chinese assistance is available as well, making it relatively convenient for international travelers to visit.

If you are planning an itinerary around Yeonnam, where atmospheric cafés and shops are gathered, as well as Hongdae, trying out a new hairstyle in Korea during your trip could be a wonderful K-beauty experience.

There is also a special packages and hair treatment benefits exclusively for customers who book through Creatrip, so be sure to check the booking page for details before your visit.
