Sinchon Shopping Guide: Must-Buy Brands, Discounts & Shopping Deals at Hyundai Department Store Sinchon Branch (2026)

When you travel to Seoul, where do you usually go for shopping? Most people default to Hongdae or Gangnam, but if you're looking for another great area to explore, I'd suggest Sinchon.

I've lived in Korea for 7 years, and during my language school days I always lived in Sinchon. It's a neighborhood with a real youthful energy — Korean students and young people are always around, and the whole area has a relaxed, lively feel. The two shopping spots you can't skip here are the Hyundai Department Store Sinchon Branch (Main Building) and the nearby U-PLEX Sinchon.

I recently looked into what both places offer for travelers, and there's more than you'd expect. In this guide, I'll cover must-buy brands, rest areas, and special events at both the Main Building and U-PLEX.

If you want a Sinchon itinerary that covers shopping, a decent break spot, and a taste of everyday Korean street culture, read on.

The Hyundai Seoul Monthly Promotions

Where should you go shopping in Sinchon?

Sinchon street view, with shops on both sides, tree shade, and sidewalks

Sinchon has long been one of Seoul's go-to university neighborhoods. The whole area has a relaxed, youthful feel! There are plenty of stores, lots of cafes, and it's the kind of place where you can wander around without a strict plan. Unlike Myeongdong, which caters heavily to tourists, Sinchon feels much closer to how Koreans actually live day-to-day. If you want a more local atmosphere, it's worth a stop.

If you're shopping in Sinchon, a good place to start is the Hyundai Department Store Sinchon Branch. You can browse popular Korean brands all in one spot, and there are solid perks, services, and rest areas available too.

The Hyundai Department Store Sinchon Branch is split into two sections: Main Building and U-Plex. Main building is like the traditional department store-style, and U-PLEX is like the younger, more casual vibe. You get the familiar comfort of a department store alongside the street-level energy Sinchon is known for. Whether it's your first time in the area or you want a shopping route that doesn't leave you exhausted, this is a great place to base yourself.

What’s the difference between the main building and U-PLEX Sinchon?

1 / 0

Hyundai Department Store Sinchon Branch is located near Exit 1 of Sinchon Station on Line 2. Both the Main Building and U-PLEX are part of the same complex, but the atmosphere and store lineup are quite different. I've spent time in both, and each one has its own appeal.

What Perks Are Available for International Visitors at Hyundai Department Store Sinchon Branch?

*The benefits below may change depending on timing, brand policies, or in-store events. Please refer to the information available on-site and staff guidance for the most accurate details.

1. Spend KRW 300,000 or more and receive a 5% gift voucher

  • Redemption location: Customer Service Center on the 10th floor of the Main Building

Hyundai Department Store Sinchon Branch promotion notice: spend KRW 300,000 and get a 5% gift voucher

Foreign visitors who spend a combined total of KRW 300,000 or more at Hyundai Department Store Sinchon Branch in a single day can receive a 5% gift voucher.

Receipts from both the Main Building and U-PLEX count toward the total, so it's not hard to hit the threshold across a full day of shopping.

※5% gift voucher: Up to 5% of the target amount (KRW 300,000), which is a KRW 15,000 gift voucher

Customer Service Center on the 10th floor of the Main Building, redeem gift vouchers with receipts and a passport

Collect all your receipts, then head to the Customer Service Center on the 10th floor of the Main Building. Show the staff your receipts along with your passport (or a photo of the personal information page) to receive the voucher.

Note that restaurant, cafe and alcohol purchases are excluded, and home appliances and luxury brand purchases count at only 50% of the amount paid.

💡Tip: This offer is exclusive to the Sinchon branch. Not all brands are eligible, so it's worth checking with staff on-site to confirm before you plan your spending.

2. Show your passport to enjoy a free drink at Cafe H

  • Redemption location: Cafe H on the 9th floor of the Main Building

1 / 0

After a few hours of shopping, you'll want a place to sit. On the 9th floor of the Main Building, there's a cafe and VIP lounge that's normally reserved for Hyundai Department Store members.

1 / 0

Travelers can get in on this too — show your passport (or a photo of the personal information page) to the Cafe H staff and you'll get one free drink. You can also use the VIP lounge next door to rest.

The drink menu covers coffee, tea, and non-coffee options. The last time I visited, I came with a colleague and we each redeemed a drink, grabbed a window seat overlooking Sinchon, and took a proper break. It was exactly what we needed mid-trip.

💡Tip: Sign up for the Hyundai Department Store H. Point membership and you can redeem 2 additional free drinks at Cafe H each month — combined with the traveler perk above, that's 3 drinks total.

3. Exclusive Benefits for global customers

1 / 0

Some brands offer extra perks for global customers, such as instant discounts, or free gifts when you spend over a certain amount.

When we visited in early June, brands like HERA, THE WHOO, ADIDAS, THE NORTH FACE, and A.P.C. were all running global customer-only promotions.

💡Tip: To check which brands are currently offering deals for global customers, look for signs at each store entrance, or grab a mall leaflet from the 10th floor of the Main Building. It's a handy way to map out your route before you start browsing.

4. Global Service Center

  • Location: Near the main entrance on the 1st floor of the Main Building

Global Service Center on the 1st floor of the Main Building

Whether you need directions, shopping information, luggage storage, or help with a tax refund, the Global Service Center on the 1st floor of the Main Building is your go-to stop.

Look for the "Global Service" sign as shown in the photo. Staff on-site speak English, Chinese and can assist with tax refunds, service inquiries, free luggage storage, and Hyundai Department Store H.Point membership registration.

💡Tip: The free luggage storage here is intended for large suitcases only — you can't leave shopping bags or smaller items. Also, pick up your luggage before 7:30 pm.

5. Tax Refund Service

  • Where to do it:
    • Main Building:
      • 1F Global Service Center
      • 10F tax refund kiosk next to the Customer Service Center
    • U-PLEX: Global Tax Refund Kiosk on B1F

You definitely want to get your tax refund after shopping in Korea. Tax refunds are available on any single purchase of KRW 15,000 or more at Hyundai Department Store Sinchon Branch.

You can process it as an instant refund in-store, or ask for a post-refund form and take care of everything at once before you leave Korea. Either way, you don't need to visit a separate counter outside the mall.

Must-Visit Brands at The Hyundai Department Store Sinchon Branch

1 / 0

The Main Building carries a wide range of categories — trendy local fashion labels, international designer brands, men's wear, women's wear, kids' clothing, sporting goods, and outdoor brands.

Plan for at least half a day if you want to cover everything. We've picked out 3 fashion and beauty brands that have been popular with young Koreans lately.

MARITHÉ FRANÇOIS GIRBAUD

  • Location: Main Building B2F

MARITHÉ FRANÇOIS GIRBAUD Sinchon store entrance

1 / 0

If you follow Korean street style at all, you've probably come across this brand. The aesthetic fits Sinchon well — casual and relaxed, without being overdone, but still very Korean in its sensibility.

“MARITHÉ FRANÇOIS GIRBAUD” does a lot of easy-to-wear basics, and both the clothing and accessories move fast. I own a T-shirt and a cap from them myself. On my last visit, there were plenty of new arrivals with 2026 spring/summer elements — light blue stripes, small floral prints, and similar details. If casual is your style, you'll find something here.

Matin Kim

  • Location: Main Building B2F

1 / 0

If you follow Korean fashion trends, Matin Kim should be on your list. The tailoring and overall aesthetic are a strong match for the current Korean style scene. It's not only about clothing — a lot of Korean women buy Matin Kim bags too. They're well-made, versatile, and work well for both commuting and casual outings.

The brand does have stores in other countries too, but the Korean stores carry more new arrivals and prices tend to run a bit lower. Worth a stop while you're already at Hyundai Department Store.

HERA

  • Location: Main Building 1F
1 / 0
HERA, free travel kit with minimum spend for foreign visitors

Exclusive spend-and-receive gift for foreigners

Hyundai Department Store Sinchon Branch carries a solid lineup of premium cosmetics, and HERA is one of the standouts — known especially for its base makeup and lipstick range.

For shoppers from outside Korea, buying HERA online is common, but physical stores elsewhere often carry a limited selection. At this store, you can test shades and textures in person before you buy.

When we visited, there was a global customers-exclusive promotion: spend KRW 30,000 or more and receive a travel kit with tone-up sunscreen, foundation, and setting spray. Great for packing light on the rest of your trip.

Must-Visit Brands at U-PLEX Sinchon

Main entrance of Hyundai Department Store Sinchon U-PLEX and the red pipe landmark

The red pipe landmark right outside U-PLEX's main entrance is hard to miss — back when I was meeting friends in Sinchon, we'd always use it as our meeting point.

As I mentioned earlier, U-PLEX leans younger and more casual than the Main Building. It's where you'll find the brands that are most popular with Koreans (especially gen z) right now. The shops below are places I genuinely browse myself, and they're all brands that most Koreans have at least one piece from.

Main Building B2F connected to U-PLEX via underground passage

💡Tip: You don't need to step outside to get between the Main Building and U-PLEX. There are indoor passageways on the 4F and B2F of the Main Building that connect directly to U-PLEX. We recommend starting at the upper floors of the Main Building and working your way down — once you reach B2F, you can walk straight across to U-PLEX without going outside, and there are cafes and shops along the way.

MUSINSA STANDARD

  • Location: U-PLEX 4F

Front of the MUSINSA STANDARD Sinchon U-PLEX store

1 / 0

If you want a few genuinely K-style pieces that you can wear year-round, MUSINSA STANDARD is a reliable pick. The focus is on neutral tones, clean cuts, and wearable basics — the kind of thing that works with most wardrobes.

They carry menswear, womenswear, and kidswear, and the range covers everything from smarter office-ready pieces to casual everyday clothes and outdoor gear. I have a few items from them at home. Worth a browse regardless of your usual style.

WONDERPLACE

  • Location: U-PLEX 5F

WONDERPLACE Sinchon U-PLEX store front

1 / 0

WONDERPLACE is a fashion select shop that brings together multiple brands and styles in one space. The vibe skews streetwear and casual, with a wide variety of designs and a good selection of accessories including hats. If you'd rather browse multiple looks without committing to a single brand, this is the place for it.

8Seconds

  • Location: U-PLEX 1F

8Seconds Sinchon U-PLEX storefront

1 / 0

Walk in through U-PLEX's main entrance and you'll see 8Seconds right away — one of the most recognizable casual fashion brands in Korea.

Like MUSINSA STANDARD, the focus is on easy-to-wear Korean-style basics, but 8Seconds brings in more color without going overboard. The pricing is accessible, making it a good fit for students and young professionals alike.

FILA

  • Location: U-PLEX 7F

Front of the FILA Sinchon U-PLEX store

1 / 0

If your style is casual or sporty, FILA needs no introduction. Beyond clothing, FILA is well known for its sneakers — you'll find the classic blue, white, and red colorways, running shoes, and the Mary Jane-style sneakers that have been trending this year. If you're looking to pick up shoes while you're at Hyundai Department Store Sinchon, it's a solid stop.

We spotted Seoul-exclusive designs on a recent visit — caps and T-shirts featuring a tiger, which is a symbol of Korea. They were genuinely worth picking up as a Korea-specific souvenir.

Things to Do Besides Shopping

Hyundai Department Store Sinchon Branch has more going on than just shopping. There are special events, comfortable rest spots, and plenty of the youthful Sinchon atmosphere to take in. Even if you're not there to buy anything, it's a fun place to spend an hour or two.

Cafe H & Glass Lounge

  • Location: Main Building, 9F
1 / 0

When your feet start to give out, head to Cafe H and the Glass Lounge on the 9th floor of the Main Building. Whether you're already loaded up with shopping bags or just need a moment before your next stop, having a proper place to sit and reset makes a big difference during a full day out.

1 / 0

We hadn't been up to the 9th floor on previous visits, and it was a pleasant surprise — the space is open and well-designed, much nicer than you'd expect from a department store rest area.

The Glass Lounge features floor-to-ceiling windows with 180-degree views of Ansan Mountain and Yonsei University. In Korean geomancy, Ansan Mountain is associated with fresh starts, and nearby Munpibong Peak is said to carry energy linked to learning and talented people. If you're heading into a new chapter — exams, a career change, or anything else — it's a nice spot to pause and soak that in.

💡Tip: International travelers can show their passport at Cafe H to redeem one free drink — a perk worth using while you're up here.

Star Square Plaza Live Performances

  • Location: Open area outside U-PLEX 1F
  • Time: Every Tuesday and Thursday
1 / 0

Every Tuesday and Thursday, there are free performances in the outdoor area right outside U-PLEX's main entrance, near the red pipes. The lineup rotates between underground idol groups and K-pop dance teams — the atmosphere gets lively fast, and it's one of the easiest places to feel Sinchon's street energy.

1 / 0

On my last visit, I caught a performance by underground idol group UGPP. I wasn't familiar with them going in, but a few songs in, the energy was hard to ignore. A good crowd had gathered and everyone seemed genuinely caught up in the moment — the kind of spontaneous street performance that's hard to plan for but always memorable.

💡Tip: These performances happen year-round, but start times vary. They typically begin somewhere between 17:00 and 19:00.

CAFE OH!MAKE

  • Location: U-PLEX B2F
1 / 0

Anime fans should make a point of visiting CAFE OH!MAKE. The cafe runs regular collaborations with popular anime and game titles, with official merch, character artwork throughout the space, and limited-edition drinks and desserts tied to each theme.

On our last visit, there was a limited-time Kamisama Kiss theme running, and the line for photos and photo cards was long. Before you go, check CAFE OH!MAKE's Instagram to see which collaboration is currently on — it's worth timing your visit around a series you actually follow.

Pop-up Store

  • Location: U-PLEX B2F
1 / 0

Right across from CAFE OH!MAKE, there's a rotating pop-up zone. Events change regularly — when we visited, a fashion sale was on and we spotted items from SATUR at reduced prices. It's always worth a quick look to see what's running.
