Horangi Yang Kkochi | Our Visit

There are so many great restaurants in Hongdae, but one place that has been steadily gaining popularity lately through social media and word of mouth is 'Horangi Yang Kkochi'!

It is located in Hongdae’s main shopping area, so it is perfect to visit after shopping or stopping by a cafe, and if you are traveling, it is an ideal addition to your Hongdae itinerary.

More than anything, the clean, trendy vibe, different from typical lamb skewer places, really stood out. It felt great for a casual drink with friends, and it also had a comfortable atmosphere for a date night.

And since they offer not only lamb skewers but also a variety of dishes like mala tang, fried milk, and French rack, it is even more satisfying when you visit with a group.

The moment we walked in, we could tell they had put a lot of thought into the interior.

Overall, they used red tones to create a sleek, trendy vibe, and the space felt both comfortable and lively.

Since the restaurant has not been open for long, everything was very clean and pleasant, the tables, chairs, and facilities throughout the space were all well maintained, which made dining even more enjoyable.

There were also celebrity autographs displayed at the entrance, so the moment you step in, you can really feel how popular and talked about this place is. It definitely made us even more excited for the meal!

After being shown to our seats, we noticed mirrors placed throughout the restaurant. It made the space look larger and brighter, and also made the trendy vibe stand out even more.

There were also pens on the table that let you write on the mirror freely.

You can write a message or draw something cute, which adds a fun, unique touch.

It felt like the kind of detail that really matches what younger visitors enjoy today, especially if you like taking photos and saving memories!

Before we get into what we ordered, let us quickly introduce the menu!

Even though it is a lamb skewer specialty restaurant, you might be surprised by how many options they have. Along with their signature lamb skewers, you can also enjoy unique dishes like mala tang, fried milk, and French rack.

Whether you want a light meal of lamb skewers and beer, or you want to order a variety of dishes and have a hearty feast with friends, the lineup is satisfying for everyone.

They also had menus in multiple languages for international guests.

With support for Chinese, English, Japanese, and more, even visitors who do not know Korean well can easily check the menu.

You can also order using the QR code at your table.

Just scan it with your phone to view the menu and order right away. The ordering system supports multiple languages too, so international visitors can use it conveniently without worrying about language barriers.

It was also nice to be able to pick exactly what we wanted without having to ask staff for explanations one by one.

We could also feel the owner’s thoughtful attention to detail throughout the restaurant!

Since the grill plate can get very hot while cooking lamb skewers, they even had cooling patches available in case guests feel warm.

Thanks to this kind of small but considerate service, we could dine even more comfortably, and it gave us a glimpse into the restaurant’s philosophy of valuing the customer experience.

Now that we have looked around the vibe and the unique points, it is time for the most important part, the food!

From here, we will introduce what we tried, along with recommended sauce pairings.

-16 Different Sauces-

The variety of dishes is great, but another major highlight of 'Horangi Yang Kkochi' is the sauce bar.

They provide a total of 16 different sauces. From classic cumin seasoning to Horangi’s special sauce and even spicy Buldak sauce, you can mix and match based on your taste.

It was especially fun because even the same lamb skewer tastes completely different depending on what sauce you pair it with.

The owner also recommended a hidden combo!

If you love spicy food, they suggest mixing Buldak sauce, sweet-and-spicy Korean fried chicken sauce, and mayonnaise in a 1:1:1 ratio.

The intense heat of the Buldak sauce, the sweet flavor of the chicken sauce, and the creamy mayo come together into an addictively tasty mix.

Two must-tries are Horangi Seasoning, their signature, and their cumin mix as well.

According to the owner, they pay close attention to every spice and ingredient. The cumin mix in particular is not just plain cumin powder, it is blended with a variety of spices including five-spice, which gives it a deeper, richer aroma.

The Horangi special sauce is also a signature sauce unique to this place, and it enhances the savory, mouthwatering flavor even more when eaten with lamb skewers!

They also provide dedicated sauce plates so you can freely mix sauces in your own way.

Along with the sauces, there were also sides you can pair them with, like pickled vegetables, spicy radish salad, and peanuts.

Depending on what you pair together, you can enjoy totally different flavors, which made it even more fun.

-Drinks That Pair Perfectly With Lamb Skewers-

While we were getting our sauces ready, the drinks and dishes started arriving one by one!

They had sodas, of course, plus a variety of beers that pair amazingly with lamb skewers. Lamb skewers with a cold beer is always a winning combo.

They also had a more unique item, the Sikhye Highball.

It is a mix of Sikhye, a traditional Korean sweet rice drink, and a highball, combining Sikhye’s sweetness with the highball’s refreshing fizz for a fun and different flavor.

It is not something you see easily elsewhere, so if you visit, we recommend giving it a try at least once!

-Horangi Yang Kkochi Signature Menu: Lamb Skewers-

[圖片滑桿]

Now it is time to introduce today’s main star, the lamb skewers!

This time, we ordered three flavors, Original, Soy Sauce, and Mala, to try their signature menu in different ways.

After you order, a staff member comes to your table to set up the dedicated grill plate.

They use an automatic rotating skewer machine made for lamb skewers, so the skewers cook evenly without you needing to do anything.

Watching the skewers slowly rotate as they cook, you start to smell a rich, nutty aroma in the air.

The outside turns beautifully golden, with a subtle smoky flavor too, it looked mouthwatering even before tasting.

Each of the three flavors had its own charm, so whether you prefer a clean, simple taste or stronger seasoning and spice, you can enjoy them to your preference.

Another standout point at Horangi Yangkkochi is their commitment to quality meat.

They make their lamb skewers using lamb belly with a well balanced ratio of fat to lean meat. Thanks to the fine marbling, the texture is tender and juicy, so even first-timers can enjoy lamb without hesitation.

They also use a specially made grill plate rather than the usual charcoal method.

Because high heat of around 300°C is delivered evenly across the entire plate, the skewers cook uniformly.

And since they do not use charcoal, there is less smoke and odor, so your clothes and hair do not pick up heavy smells afterward, making the whole dining experience much more comfortable!

[圖片滑桿]

Out of the three flavors, our personal favorite was the Soy Sauce lamb skewers.

The salty savoriness of the soy sauce with a hint of sweetness made it incredibly umami. It brought out the lamb’s flavor while still feeling light, it was the kind of taste that keeps you reaching for another bite. The balance of salty and sweet was spot on, so it seems like anyone could enjoy it.

Another impressive point was that the sauce-brushing process is completely open.

Since the staff brush on the seasoning and grill it right in front of you, you can clearly see the cooking process, which made us feel even more comfortable.

Once the skewers are done, the staff check the doneness one more time, then move them to the upper warming rack so they are easy to eat.

That means you do not have to worry about them overcooking, and you can enjoy them slowly at your own pace.

From start to finish, the staff took great care of everything, which made the meal feel even more relaxed and comfortable :)

[圖片滑桿]

One fun detail was how you clear the finished skewers.

Each table has a dedicated hole where you can drop in the skewers after eating. It keeps the table from getting messy, so you can enjoy your meal neatly!

[圖片滑桿]

Dip-in-sauce is great, but the owner also suggested another special way to eat them, wrapping the lamb in wheat pancakes.

Take the cooked lamb off the skewer, add your favorite sauce and side ingredients, then wrap it all in a wheat pancake.

The rich lamb flavor, the chewy texture of the pancake, and the combination of different ingredients created a whole new kind of deliciousness.

Besides lamb skewers, Horangi Yang Kkochi also offers a variety of other skewers.

There are shrimp skewers, scallop skewers, pineapple skewers, sausage skewers, and more, so even guests who do not eat lamb can still enjoy the meal together.

If you order several types, you can experience a range of flavors at once, which makes the meal even more satisfying.

-A Must-Try for Lamb Lovers: French Rack-

We also ordered the French rack along with the lamb skewers.

French rack is considered one of the most tender and delicious cuts of lamb ribs.

It is known for its delicate texture and juicy bite, making it a favorite among people who truly love lamb.

[圖片滑桿]

Before it comes to your table, the staff prepare and sear it in the open kitchen area.

Being able to watch the cooking process directly made it feel even more trustworthy.

The beautifully browned exterior had a rich, savory aroma, and with one bite, the tender texture and deep juices filled our mouths. It kept lamb’s unique charm while still feeling easy to enjoy, which made it very satisfying.

Since it has a different appeal from lamb skewers, we recommend ordering it if you want to enjoy more lamb dishes.

-Numbing and Addictive Mala Tang-

[圖片滑桿]

Next up is mala tang, one of their side dishes.

The moment it arrived, the generous ingredients stood out. It was packed with vegetables and various add-ins, so it looked satisfying just by appearance.

The rich, deep broth was especially impressive. The numbing mala aroma combined with spicy heat, so if you like spicy food, it is a flavor you will really enjoy.

-A Must-Order to Cut Through Richness: Oi Tangtangi (smashed cucumber salad)-

[圖片滑桿]

We also ordered the popular Oi Tangtangi.

With crunchy cucumber, garlic, and a special sauce, it has an appealing tangy and spicy flavor.

After eating rich, flavorful lamb skewers, one bite felt like it refreshed and cleansed the palate.

It is a great light side, so we recommend ordering it with your lamb skewers!

-Crispy Outside, Tender Inside Fried Eggplant-

Next is fried eggplant with tomato sauce.

The freshly fried eggplant had a crispy coating with moist, tender eggplant inside, and with one bite, you really get that perfect crispy-outside, soft-inside contrast.

The tomato sauce served with it was sweet and tangy, pairing well with the eggplant. And if you combine it with any of the 16 sauces available in the restaurant, you can enjoy yet another twist.

-The Perfect Finish: Fried Milk-

[圖片滑桿]

Last, the most memorable menu item from this visit was the fried milk.

It was crispy on the outside, and soft and moist on the inside, the contrast in texture was fantastic.

With the sweet sauce served alongside, it felt almost like a dessert, which made it even more appealing.

It was especially great as a finishing dish after enjoying lamb skewers and various other dishes. It ended the meal on a sweet note and boosted overall satisfaction.

Personally, if you visit Horangi Yang Kkochi, this is something we highly recommend ordering at least once!

We had another truly satisfying meal today!

From delicious lamb skewers and varied dishes to the 16 different sauces, there was nothing to complain about.

Beyond the food, the clean, comfortable atmosphere and thoughtful service made it an even more memorable dining experience.

The unique sauce combinations, the owner’s recommended ways to eat, and the special touches you can only experience at 'Horangi Yang Kkochi' really felt like this place’s own charm.

If you are looking for a special restaurant in Hongdae, we definitely recommend visiting 'Horangi Yang Kkochi'!
