Our Visit

Today, we visited Sura Ganjang Gejang, a restaurant specializing in marinated crab located in Myeongdong.
It’s just a 3-minute walk from Exit 8 of Myeongdong Station, making it super convenient to find.
Best of all, it’s right in the center of Myeongdong, making it the perfect spot for a meal during shopping or sightseeing.

The signboard uses a Korean-style font that matches the name perfectly, and the soft lighting at the entrance set a great mood from the moment we walked in.
Our excitement grew the moment we stepped inside!
There’s a restroom inside the restaurant, which made it very convenient to use.
The interior is decorated in a hanok (traditional Korean house) style, giving off an authentic traditional vibe.
Located on the second floor in the heart of Myeongdong, you can dine by the window and enjoy the lively street views of Myeongdong.

There was a space inside the chair where you could store your bag.
It was much neater and more comfortable since we didn’t have to put our bags on the floor while eating.
This kind of attention to detail, even in the smallest things, was truly impressive!

When ordering, you can select your menu using the tablet provided at each table.
You can choose your preferred language from Korean, English, Japanese, or Chinese (Simplified/Traditional), so anyone can use it comfortably.

As soon as we sat down, they brought bottled water according to the number of people in our party.
Thanks to the quick and natural service, we felt good right from the start.
Next to the table, individually wrapped spoons and chopsticks, wet wipes, tissues, and plastic gloves were neatly organized.
Since eating marinated crab can get messy, it was convenient that all the necessary items were prepared in advance, so there was no need to ask for anything.
The essential scissors, tongs, and aprons for enjoying marinated crab were available in the middle of the restaurant!

There was a pressure rice cooker placed in the center of the restaurant, and thanks to the freshly cooked, warm rice, the flavor of the marinated crab was even better!

All the dishes we ordered have arrived!
The beautifully arranged table, reminiscent of a royal surasang (traditional royal table setting), was simply breathtaking!
It felt like being treated like royalty, and you could sense the care put into every single dish.
The basic set includes 2 soy sauce marinated crabs, 2 marinated shrimp, 9 types of side dishes, japchae for 2, and 2 bowls of rice.
Our editor ordered for three people, so we were able to enjoy an even more generous spread~!
Suragejang (royal marinated crab set) can be ordered for a minimum of two people, and you must order according to the number of people in your party.
However, if someone cannot eat raw food, you don’t have to order for them, but you must add a main dish (excluding side dishes) instead.
The soy sauce marinated crab was so delicious that you could finish a bowl of rice in no time, and the Suragejang set was even more satisfying thanks to the variety and quality of the side dishes.
With nine different side dishes, plus japchae and marinated shrimp, the table was truly abundant.
I especially liked that you could wrap the crab in seaweed or top it with flying fish roe, which made the flavors even richer.
The side dishes like japchae, rolled omelet, gungchae (water celery), braised beans, and lotus root were all perfectly seasoned and easy to enjoy alongside the main dishes!
When they set the table, they explained how to best enjoy the soy sauce marinated crab, so even first-timers could eat it without any trouble.
Our editor tried it that way, and it was so delicious that I’ll introduce the steps one by one!
First, divide your rice in half.
One half is for mixing with the crab meat, and the other half is for putting into the crab shell later.
The rice was topped with seaweed flakes and sesame oil, giving off a savory aroma—such thoughtful details were truly impressive.
Squeeze the crab meat into your rice bowl.
When squeezing out the meat, I could feel its firmness, which immediately told me how fresh it was.
The inside was packed with meat, and the bright orange roe was so appetizing just to look at.
Add flying fish roe to the crab meat in your bowl and mix them together.
The salty crab meat and the popping flying fish roe combine for an explosion of umami flavor!
Here’s Our editor’s tip: since the soy sauce broth isn’t too salty, adding a little makes it even more moist and smooth.
Now for the highly anticipated crab shell stage!
Scrape out all the meat from inside the crab shell, add the remaining rice, and mix everything together evenly.
The moment I took a bite, the rich flavors of the crab meat and roe blended together for a true “bite of happiness”!
The most unique part was using the leftover soy sauce broth from the bowl that held the marinated crab!
You add buckwheat noodles to it and eat it like soba—the soy sauce broth wasn’t salty at all, which was a pleasant surprise.
Our editor mixed in some crab meat as well, which made the savory flavor even richer!
It was great to be able to enjoy not just rice, but also noodles together.
Now, let’s introduce the main dishes you can order in addition to the Suragejang Hansang set!
The menu item I was most excited and curious about was the “Buldak Gejang” (spicy fire chicken-style marinated crab).
It was amazing how it captured the spicy, addictive flavor of the Buldak Bokkeum Myeon (spicy chicken stir-fried noodles) we all know so well!
True to its name, it’s quite spicy, so if you love spicy food, this is a must-try.
Our editor was completely hooked from the very first bite.
Even when squeezing out the Buldak Gejang, I was surprised at how packed it was with meat.
I thought the strong seasoning might dry out the meat, but it was actually moist and retained its bouncy texture!
Even with the spicy seasoning, you could still taste the natural sweetness of the crab.
This was Our editor’s favorite combination!
Squeeze the meat from the Buldak Gejang (spicy marinated crab), mix it with rice, place it on a sheet of seaweed, top it with flying fish roe, and eat it all in one bite—it's absolutely amazing.
The combination of spicy marinated crab, savory seaweed, and the popping texture of flying fish roe was truly perfect.

Just looking at the glossy soy sauce marinated shrimp neatly arranged on the plate was enough to make my mouth water.
The plump shrimp were lined up beautifully, and the slice of lemon placed in the center added a visual highlight to the dish.
The lemon was there to neutralize any fishy taste, but the shrimp were so fresh that there was no need to use it—they weren't fishy at all!
As soon as I peeled the shrimp, I could feel the freshness in the firm texture of the meat.
They had a savory flavor with a subtle sweetness unique to shrimp, and the bouncy texture filled my mouth.
Most importantly, there was no fishy taste at all, and when eaten with rice, the clean and nutty flavor was truly delightful.
The seafood pancake was served in a wide dish that paired perfectly with it, immediately catching my eye.
The outside was crispy while the inside was moist, and it was packed with plump seafood, showing they didn't skimp on ingredients.
Our editor's recommended pairing is to enjoy it with the Buldak Gejang!
The spicy flavor of the Buldak Gejang combined with the crispy, savory pancake was such a great match that I couldn't stop eating.
The truffle steamed egg comes served in a hot earthenware bowl, and the egg puffs up like a balloon, making it exciting from the moment you see it.
Truffle powder is sprinkled on top, and as soon as you take a bite, the rich aroma of truffle fills your mouth along with the soft, creamy egg.
Thanks to its fluffy and moist texture, it paired perfectly with both the soy sauce marinated crab and the Buldak Gejang.

Lastly, let me introduce the soft tofu stew.
The spicy broth and the creamy soft tofu blended together beautifully!
Served in an earthenware bowl, it stayed warm until the last bite, and especially when enjoyed with the soy sauce marinated crab, the flavors complemented each other perfectly.

Today, we tried a variety of signature dishes at 'Suragejang.'
The royal-style meal set unique to 'Suragejang' made us feel like we were being treated like royalty, offering a feast for both the eyes and the palate.
Not only the marinated crab, but also the soy sauce shrimp, Buldak Gejang, seafood pancake, soft tofu stew, and truffle steamed egg—everything was delicious!
Every single dish was truly delicious.
If you want to experience an authentic Korean marinated crab meal in Korea, we highly recommend 'Suragejang' for its dedication and flavor!
