Our Visit

Today, I visited 'Gyeongbokgung Restaurant', a shabu-shabu restaurant located at Gyeongbokgung Station.

This place is about a 3-minute walk from Gyeongbokgung Station, making it very accessible, and it's also very easy to find since you just walk straight from the station.

The restaurant is located on the basement level (B1) of the building and, as it occupies the entire basement, it offers a spacious and comfortable environment where you can enjoy your meal at ease.

The store was really spacious enough to comfortably accommodate groups of guests.

Especially when I went inside the group-only area, I was surprised to find another hidden space.

It's a place visited by a famous Japanese comedian and is also known as a popular restaurant among Japanese tourists.

There is a sink and restroom inside the store, so please keep that in mind!

Not only group guests but also small-scale visitors had a comfortable space available.

There was also a self-service bar where you could add side dishes yourself, making it very convenient to use.

This is the menu of 'Gyeongbokgung Restaurant'.

The special thing is that there is a dedicated menu specifically for people who are on a diet!

From low-calorie noodles to low-carb konjac rice, it was great that anyone could enjoy shabu-shabu without worry, according to their preferences and diet.

The editor and their group ordered the 'Minari Set for 2,' which offers an impressive five dishes at great value.

The Minari Set, which consists of minari mushroom shabu, shabu meat, minari kalguksu, minari porridge, and minari pancake, is now available.

I was really surprised that I could enjoy such a generous selection of dishes at this price!

Shabu-shabu is first served with only vegetables in the broth.

You can choose between clear broth and spicy broth, and we chose the spicy one.

The spicy broth wasn't as hot as I expected, so even people who aren't good with spicy food could enjoy it without any trouble.

The shabu-shabu meat was enough for two people to enjoy, and the quality of the meat looked really good!

Noodles and porridge to enjoy after finishing the meat were also served.

The portions were so generous that I was already looking forward to finishing the meal even before starting the meat!

The minari pancake included in the set menu and the special soy sauce were served together.

The crispy appearance stood out even before eating, so I was really curious about what it would taste like!

Kimchi and dongchimi, which go well with shabu-shabu, were served as basic side dishes.

Dongchimi is one of Korea's traditional types of kimchi, made by salting radish and napa cabbage and then fermenting them in a clear, refreshing brine.

It has a clean and refreshing taste, so it goes really well with shabu-shabu. I highly recommend trying them together!

There were also two types of sauce prepared at each table,

One is soy sauce with wasabi, the other is cho-gochujang.

It is recommended to mix cho-gochujang with perilla powder in a 1:1 ratio!

First, I boiled the vegetables and broth.

It's good to stir occasionally so the vegetables cook well.

I tried the minari pancake first while the vegetables were cooking.

Cut into bite-sized pieces and dipped lightly in the special soy sauce, it was just as crispy and delicious as it looks!

Every time I ate with my group, I couldn't help but be amazed, and even when I was full, I kept reaching for more because it was really delicious :)

When the vegetables are somewhat cooked, you can add the beef.

Shabu-shabu meat is thin, so it cooks quickly and you can enjoy it deliciously without leaving it in for too long.

When the meat is cooked, feel free to enjoy it with the vegetables :)

I liked that there were so many and such a variety of vegetables, including various mushrooms, potatoes, Minari, mung bean sprouts, and bok choy.

The meat is delicious even if you dip it in soy sauce the way you always do,

When I tried dipping it in the cho-gochujang sauce I made earlier, I could feel a different flavor and enjoy it in a new way.

I think it would be great if you enjoy it according to your own taste!

After eating all the vegetables and meat, add the kalguksu noodles,

Flip the hourglass on the table and enjoy your meal after 5 minutes.

It's a small thing, but having the hourglass made the waiting time more enjoyable.

The kalguksu noodles are chewy and springy, making the texture even better and enhancing the flavor.

As expected, when it comes to shabu-shabu, kalguksu is a must, and it was even more delicious than I expected, so I was very satisfied :)

The portions were so generous that I was already full, but I still had to try the porridge, right~?

In Korea, after finishing shabu-shabu, it’s essential to make porridge by slowly simmering rice, egg, and seaweed flakes in the rich broth infused with meat and vegetables!

After leaving an appropriate amount of broth, add rice and simmer on low heat for about 2 minutes to finish!

The key is to keep stirring so the rice doesn't stick.

The porridge portions were so generous that we wondered if it was really a set for two people.

Even though it's not too strong, it has a deep, savory umami flavor that's outstanding, so I highly recommend trying it even if you're already full!

Even though the editor was already full, the porridge was perfectly seasoned and delicious, so I ended up eating much more than I expected.

After enjoying all the dishes, I had dessert with the yellow peaches prepared at the self-serve bar.

This is the first place I've seen a self-serve bar with yellow peaches, and they were so refreshing and sweet—just perfect for dessert!

Today, I tried shabu-shabu at 'Gyeongbokgung Restaurant',

It was a meal carefully prepared from start to finish, and I was able to truly experience the charm of shabu-shabu that you can only find in Korea.

Plus, I was even more satisfied because I could enjoy it as a great value set :)

A Korean-style shabu-shabu restaurant that everyone can enjoy,

If you want to truly enjoy the taste of Korea near Gyeongbokgung, I highly recommend ‘Gyeongbokgung Restaurant’!
