Korea University | Campus Cafeteria Report

Hello, everyone, we are providing you with the latest daily information about Korea byCreatrip

Korea University has such a large campus and so many cafeterias that you might have trouble deciding where to go!

This time, I will introduce two cafeterias: one located closest to the language institute and another a little farther away

List of Cafeterias at Korea University

There are a total of 6 cafeterias (circle marks) on the Korea University campus

  • Soodang Samyang Faculty House Songlim (Sudang Samyang Faculty House Songlim)

  • Natural Sciences Student Cafeteria (Natural Sciences Student Cafeteria)

  • Anam Haksa Dormitory Cafeteria (Anam Haksa Dormitory Cafeteria)

  • Industry-Academic Building Cafeteria (Industry-Academic Building Cafeteria)

  • Alumni Hall Student Cafeteria (Alumni Hall Student Cafeteria)

  • Student Union Building Student Cafeteria (Student Union Building Student Cafeteria)

This time, we visited two of these cafeterias (marked with orange circles)!

*Star mark: Language Institute

The student hall cafeteria is currently under renovation!

First, we have some unfortunate news: the student cafeteria in the student hall is temporarily closed for renovations

This cafeteria was very popular for its buffet style and all-you-can-drink beverages! Its location near the main gate made it extremely accessible!

Once the renovation work is finished, it’s exciting to think the cafeteria will reappear even better than before.

Natural Sciences Student Cafeteria (Student Cafeteria on the Natural Sciences Campus)

📍 Location

  • Aeginung Living Center (エギヌン Living Hall) 3rd Floor

🕒 Business Hours

  • Weekdays

    • Breakfast: 08:00–09:30 (1,000 won)

    • Lunch: 11:00–13:30

    • Faculty cafeteria... Lunch: 11:00–14:00

    • Faculty cafeteria... Dinner: 17:30–19:00

The first place we’ll introduce is the cafeteria located on the Natural Science campus

Originally, I was planning to introduce the student cafeteria in the student hall, but as explained above, it is currently under renovation, so…

Because it's far from the language school, you probably don't have many chances to visit the cafeteria in the natural sciences campus, so I decided to go there for you! Haha

By the way, not only is there a student cafeteria here, but a faculty and staff cafeteria is also available.

How to Use the School Cafeteria

①Purchase a meal ticket

You need to purchase a meal ticket to use the cafeteria.

The payment methods are card or PAYCO (a Korean payment app).

Today's menu is

  • Perilla Oil Buckwheat Noodles&Chuncheon-style Dakgalbi (Perilla Oil Mixed Noodles & Chuncheon-style Dakgalbi) 6,000 won
  • Beef Brisket Jjamppong 7,500 won
  • Wang Shu (King Shu) 1,500 won

This is the first time I've seen a school cafeteria where you can choose cream puffs as a side menu dessert

On this day, I chose Deulgireum Buckwheat Noodles&Chuncheon-style Dakgalbi Su (Buckwheat Noodles with Perilla Oil & Chuncheon-style Dakgalbi)!

②Receive

The pickup location varies depending on the menu item you ordered.

It looked like the egoma oil mixed noodles were lined up in the left corner!

Once you line up, first take a tray, chopsticks, and a spoon.

Next, the side dishes are lined up, so please take one of each.

The meal ticket box is placed where you receive your side dishes, so just put your ticket in the box at this time and that's OK

Salad, kimchi, takuan, and similar items are self-service, so if you need them, please help yourself.

③Tasting

Egoma oil mixed noodles contain egoma oil, Korean seaweed, garlic chives, and sesame, so you should mix it well before eating

The noodles were on the softer side, but the aroma of egoma and the fragrance of soba combined to make it delicious. I wonder why soba eaten with egoma oil is so tasty

Chuncheon-style dak-galbi contains chicken, sweet potatoes, cabbage, and other vegetables.

The chicken was finely chopped, so it was a little hard to eat, but the flavor was sweet and spicy and delicious!

Especially the sweet potatoes are sweet

④Return Method

As for how to return the dishes, after throwing away general trash such as hand wipes, please return the spoon and chopsticks to the designated return slot (the rectangular hole at the front)

Put it in, and for other tableware, you just place the whole tray on the rail, so it was easy

Water and other items are also placed near the return slot

Summary of Student Cafeterias on the Science Campus

The cafeteria here was very satisfying, with a low price of 6,000 won, high quality, cleanliness, and plenty of seats!

Since the faculty cafeteria is also located next door, it might be a good idea to try using it at least once

Alumni Hall Student Cafeteria(Alumni Hall Student Cafeteria)

📍 Location

  • Kouyu Hall (Alumni Hall) Basement 1st Floor

🕒 Business Hours

  • Weekdays

    • Breakfast: 08:00–09:30

    • Lunch: 11:00–14:00

The second one I'll introduce is the cafeteria located closest to the language school

It's easier to reach the student cafeteria if you enter through the cafeteria-only entrance located at the back of the Alumni Hall building, rather than entering from the front of the building.

When you go down to the first basement floor, today’s menu is on display.

This is quite a well-worn display case, isn't it

①Purchase meal ticket

When you enter the school cafeteria, there is a meal ticket vending machine right in front of you.

  • Guest meal ticket: 7,000 won
  • Guest meal ticket 10-pack: 70,000 won
  • Kyowoo Hall meal ticket: 6,000 won
  • Kyowoo Hall meal ticket 10-pack: 60,000 won

There isn’t any particular discount for buying in bulk, so it seems better to purchase each time

Payment methods were cash, card, or PAYCO (a Korean payment app).

It's unusual to be able to pay in cash… Is it because it's close to the language institute?

I'm an outsider... haha. I bought the meal ticket for 7,000 won.

Just put the meal ticket in the box next to the ticket vending machine

②Receive

I set off with chopsticks, a spoon, and a bowl for soup on the tray

The cafeteria here is notable for its buffet style

Rice was in front, followed by several side dishes, and finally soup was prepared at the end.

There is also a self-service corner where you can make bibimbap.

③Taste Test

The menu for this day is

  • Rice
  • Bibim Ramen
  • Tonkatsu
  • Seasoned Soybean Sprouts
  • Dotori-muk
  • Kkakdugi
  • Yukgaejang

It was!

To be honest, there weren't many delicious-looking side dishes on the menu that day…

But the yukgaejang was hearty and good

Since it's a buffet style, it's a great deal for those who eat a lot

Inside the school cafeteria, there were many seats and I saw many people eating alone

④Return Method

As for how to return the dishes, first throw any leftovers into the designated leftover box.

After that, just separate the tray and dishes and place them at the return counter!

I think even first-time visitors can return it without getting lost because there are guide signs

Summary of Cafeterias at the Alumni Hall

Since it's a buffet-style cafeteria, I'm happy that I can eat as much of my favorite side dishes as I want

There were plenty of seats, and the atmosphere made it easy to dine alone, which was great!

However, it was disappointing that there were only a few side dishes... Considering that you can eat for 6,000 won, it might be a reasonable number of dishes

Personally, I thought the cafeteria in the Natural Campus that I introduced first was tastier

How to Check the Cafeteria Menu in Advance

Korea University has a website where you can check the cafeteria menu in advance Go to the website

The menu for each cafeteria is published, so you can choose which cafeteria to go to after checking the day's menu

Even though you can have breakfast for 1,000 won, the menu is really extensive, isn’t it?

That's all, I introduced two cafeterias at Korea University!

If you have any other recommended campus cafeterias besides the ones introduced, please let us know in the comments.

'This place was delicious!' 'This menu item was the best!' Any information like that is also very welcome!
