Hanyang University | Cafeteria Guide! How to Order?

Hello, everyone, we are providing you with the latest daily information about Korea byCreatrip.

When attending the Hanyang University Language Institute, aren’t you curious about the “cafeteria”?

There are not only several student cafeterias on the Hanyang University campus, but also a variety of menus, so I’d like to introduce them!

There are a total of 5 cafeterias on the Hanyang University campus.

  • Star mark: Language School (International Hall)
  • Circle mark: Student Cafeteria

This time, I will introduce two cafeterias (red circle marks) near the International Hall with the language center!

① Hanyang Plaza: Hanyang Plaza (105)

Location:

  • Hanyang Plaza (105) 3rd Floor

Business hours:

  • Weekdays: Breakfast (1,000 won) 8:20 AM – 9:00 AM
  • Lunch 11:00 AM – 2:30 PM
  • Break Time 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM
  • Dinner 4:00 PM – 7:30 PM
  • Saturday: Lunch 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

First, this is the student cafeteria located in Hanyang Plaza (105), the place closest to the International Building.

When you get off at the station and exit from Exit 2, the building will be right in front of you, so I think you'll find it easily.

Hanyang Plaza not only has a student cafeteria, but also a convenience store, café, restaurants, and various other shops on the first floor.

There are some delicious-looking restaurants, but since our goal this time is the school cafeteria, let's head there!

By the way, the cafeteria is located on the third floor, and there are two ways to get there.

The first way is to enter from the main entrance and use the stairs to go up to the third floor. I think this method is the easiest to understand. When you use the stairs to go to the third floor, you'll see a sign like this.

The second method is to go to the Hanyang Plaza from the Social Science Building (504). In this case, the entrance is the student cafeteria, so it is convenient, but it may be difficult to find at first.

How to Use the School Cafeteria

Buy Meal Ticket

You need to purchase a meal ticket to use the school cafeteria.

The payment methods are card or PAYCO (a Korean payment app).

The menu was divided into three types.

  • A: Western food
  • B: Korean cuisine
  • C: Instant

Today's menu is also listed on the ordering machine, so please select the menu item you want to eat

The menu for this day is

  • A: Cheese Pork Cutlet 4,200 won
  • B: Beef Doenjang Stew Rice Bowl 4,200 won
  • C: Tofu Duruchigi 4,500 won

They're all cheap, aren't they? By the way, C's 양식 (Western food) seemed to offer dishes like chicken cutlet, pork cutlet, cheese pork cutlet, and other cutlet-style meals every day!

If you’re not sure what’s on the menu, you can decide by looking at the pictures

On this day, I chose the C menu's tofu turuchigi!

②Receive

The pickup location depends on the letter on the meal ticket you purchased. Please check the letter on the menu before heading over.

First, when you get to your spot, pick up your side dishes. Then, when you receive the main menu, hand your meal ticket to the cafeteria staff and receive your main dish. It’s simple, right?

There were plenty of seats, and there were also window seats! Once you get your order, you can eat wherever you like

If you need kimchi, please help yourself.

③Tasting

The side dishes were two types: fish paste and seasoned dolnamul (dolnamul: watercress).

You might be wondering, 'What is Ttulchigi?' Ttulchigi is a dish where pork or beef is simmered together with vegetables like green onions and kimchi, and it's characterized by having less soup than a typical jjigae.

Today's tteokbokki had ground pork, tofu, vegetables like green onions and onions. It looked bright red, so it seemed very spicy, but it actually had a moderate spiciness and was easy to eat!

The tofu soaked in soup is delicious and goes perfectly with rice.

It was even more delicious than I imagined, and I finished it in no time

④Return Method

When you finish eating, you need to return your dishes.

The return slot is located on the opposite side of where you purchased your meal ticket. After disposing of general trash like wet wipes in the trash bin, simply place the tray on the counter as it is.

Water and tissues are also here

②New Materials Engineering Building: New Materials Engineering Building (204)

Location:

  • New Materials Engineering Building (204), 7th Floor

Business hours:

  • Weekdays: Lunch 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM
  • Dinner 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM
  • Saturday: Lunch 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM

The next cafeteria to introduce is the one closest to Hanyang Plaza, and it is also known as the faculty cafeteria. Although it is a faculty cafeteria, students can also use it

When you arrive on the 7th floor by elevator, today’s menu is displayed in front of you.

There were also 3 types of menus available here.

  • Rice Bowl: Pork Curry Rice 4,700 won
  • Set Menu: Charcoal Grilled Soy Sauce Bulgogi 6,000 won
  • A La Carte: Tantanmen 6,500 won

The price is a bit high, but compared to Hanyang Plaza, the side dishes (banchan) were more plentiful

When you order tantanmen, Pikachu tonkatsu (a traditional Korean tonkatsu) and kwabaegi (twisted fried donut) come with it, so I was going to order tantanmen, but since the wedding was terrible and it was relatively empty, I decided to eat the Bulgogi set meal

①How to Order

The line you wait in depends on the menu item you order here, so be sure to check which line corresponds to the menu you want to order.

As for the payment method, in the set meal zone, after you pick up a tray, rice, and kimchi by yourself, you make your payment before receiving the bulgogi. Only card payments are accepted

②Taste Test

The bulgogi set meal came with charcoal-grilled soy sauce bulgogi, Korean seaweed, clear potato soup, chicken cutlet, napa cabbage kimchi, and black rice.

It's so Korean that bulgogi comes out sizzling hot in a ttukbaegi, isn't it?

The bulgogi contained vegetables like onions, carrots, and green onions, along with plenty of meat. The seasoning was delicious, but it was a bit disappointing that the meat was a little tough

Maybe I should have gone with the dan dan noodles after all... (lol)

Even so, being able to eat a bulgogi set meal for 6,000 won is cheap.

③Return

When you finish eating, you need to return your dishes. After throwing general trash such as tissues or wet wipes into the trash can, just place the tray on the rail and you’re good to go

How to Check the Menu in Advance

Hanyang University has a website where you can check the day's cafeteria menu. → (Click here)

Menu

The menus for each cafeteria are also shown with photos, so it's easy to understand, isn't it?

Looking at it this way, there are a lot of dining halls and the menus are really extensive.

Some cafeterias not only serve lunch, but also prepare breakfast and dinner, so please make use of them.

Breakfast Menu

By the way, you can have breakfast for just 1,000 won

Above, we introduced two cafeterias at Hanyang University!

The prices were reasonable and the food was delicious, so if you're attending the language school, be sure to try the school cafeteria!
