The schedule was planned in advance to fit within an 8-hour day. If you'd like to add a restaurant or cafe stop during the tour, you can adjust the itinerary as needed.
The taxi is a mid-sized sedan, perfect for up to 4 passengers. The interior was clean and comfortable, making it easy to travel privately with family or friends instead of with strangers.
I booked the 'Core Course (8 hours)' and decided to follow the recommended itinerary. This tour covers Jecheon’s top spots: Biryongdam Reservoir, Baeron Holy Ground (the birthplace of Korean Catholicism), the history-rich Cheongpung Cultural Complex, and Chungjuho Cruise Cheongpungnaru for stunning nature views. You can also add any extra stops within the 8-hour limit, so I’m planning to fit in a stop at a great restaurant or cafe along the way.
Our first stop was Biryongdam Reservoir. It’s super convenient—you can bring just a small bag and leave any large luggage in the taxi. The drive from our hotel near Jecheon Station took about 20 minutes. We decided to walk with the driver to the reservoir entrance.
When we arrived, the sky was cloudy, and rain seemed possible, but the driver reassured us with extra umbrellas he’d prepared in the taxi. He was incredibly kind and thoughtful throughout the trip.
At the entrance, the driver and I checked the map to find the best meeting point. We agreed to meet at the parking lot with a photo spot at the end of the walking trail, rather than where we initially parked.
I hiked up the hill from the entrance and reached Biryongdam Reservoir! The clear lake water, sprawling natural scenery, and charming castle sculptures reflected in the water are truly captivating. This spot has a scenic walking path popular with Jecheon locals, and it even lights up at night.
I started by trekking along the path near the fortress sculpture. Along the trail, there’s a rest area with a viewpoint where you can relax and watch ducks playing on the lake—a truly refreshing experience.
At the halfway point, I crossed over to the opposite trail. Visiting in the fall was a treat, with autumn leaves coloring not only the reservoir but also the surrounding roads. The reservoir is stunning and promises beautiful views no matter the season.
I snapped a lovely photo with the castle-like structure at the photo zone. Walking the full trail around Biryongdam Reservoir took about 50 minutes. After finishing the walk, I headed to the designated parking lot to meet the driver and got back into the taxi.
Next, we headed to Baeron Holy Ground, enjoying scenic views of Jecheon through the window. Public transportation in Jecheon is limited, which can make getting around challenging, but the taxi tour saved time and made travel super convenient.
We arrived at Baeron Holy Ground, about a 25-minute drive from Biryongdam Reservoir. The driver mentioned he’d wait by the taxi until I finished exploring.
Baeron Holy Ground is a significant Catholic site known for its beautiful landscaping, making it a top spot for autumn views in Korea. The driver had mentioned that Baeron is one of the best places to see vibrant fall colors, and I could see why once I arrived. As home to Korea’s first Catholic seminary and a sacred site for worship, it draws many visitors from other regions for Mass. With the driver’s local knowledge and helpful insights, touring felt easy and informative!
The caves and seminary sites where people sought refuge during the persecutions of the 1800s have also been faithfully recreated.
Baeron Holy Ground is even more fascinating if you come with some knowledge of Korean history and Catholicism. This place felt like an escape from the everyday, bringing a deep sense of peace. I spent about an hour and 15 minutes exploring. For those wanting a detailed explanation, the tourist information center offers professional cultural guides (though not available during scheduled reservations). If city dwellers need a peaceful retreat, I highly recommend this spot!
We first drove for 40 minutes to a restaurant near the Cheongpung Cultural Complex. The driver recommended a fantastic Korean spot for lunch.
* Apple House (사과나무집): 2 Bibong-gil, Cheongpung-myeon, Jecheon-si, Chungbuk
We visited Apple Tree House, a popular spot in Jecheon known for its hot pots and stews. We ordered the Soft Tofu Mushroom Stew—it was hearty, mildly seasoned, and absolutely delicious!
After our meal, we headed to our third stop, Cheongpung Cultural Complex. The driver chose a toll-free route, but if tolls are necessary, you’ll need to pay them on-site. The drive from Apple Tree House to Cheongpung Cultural Complex took about 10 minutes.
To enter Cheongpung Cultural Complex, you’ll need to buy an admission ticket separately, as it’s not included in the Jecheon sightseeing taxi tour. With the tour taxi driver, you can get a discount at the ticket office! Thanks to our driver, we received a 50% discount, paying just 1,500 won per person instead of the regular 3,000 won—an excellent deal.
Cheongpung Cultural Complex offers a chance to explore Korea's cultural treasures. I enjoyed capturing photos with the vibrant historical artifacts.
The artifact exhibition hall displays a range of historical items, and you can also explore traditional Korean houses up close, offering a glimpse into daily life from the past.
You can experience traditional Korean games, so it's fun to visit with family!
At the photo zone, you can enjoy stunning views of Cheongpung Lake. There’s even a telescope for a closer look, which is a great touch!
I took a memorable photo with the beautiful Cheongpung Lake as the backdrop. Cheongpung Cultural Assets Complex is a perfect spot to experience Korea’s traditional culture and natural beauty in one place. I spent about an hour exploring here.
Now let's move to 'Chungjuho Cruise Cheongpungnaru'.
At Chungjuho Cruise Cheongpungnaru, you can purchase round-trip cruise tickets, but you have to bring your passport for ID verification. The final cruise departs at 3 PM on weekdays and 3:50 PM on weekends, so plan your itinerary accordingly to ensure you don't miss the boat. Since the cruise departs promptly, it's advisable to arrive 15–30 minutes before your desired boarding time.
I visited on the weekend and got the last ticket for the 3:50 PM cruise. I arrived at the pier 15 minutes early to buy tickets and complete the boarding report. The dock also has a rest area and a restaurant.
Cruise along and take in the stunning natural views of Cheongpung Lake, Geumsusan Mountain, and the famous Danyang Eight Sceneries! The route to Danyang is especially scenic, with the round trip taking about 1 hour and 30 minutes. I highly recommend the Chungju Lake Cruise Cheongpung Ferry on a clear day!
After wrapping up our itinerary, we headed to our final stop, Jecheon Station, for the return to Seoul. The drive from Chungjuho Cruise Cheongpungnaru to Jecheon Station took about 30 minutes, completing our 8-hour tour.
We said goodbye to our driver, who made the 8-hour journey comfortable with his friendly smile. The private taxi tour was incredibly convenient—I could leave my luggage in the car and customize the route to suit my plans. Thanks to the driver’s helpful insights and recommendations, we easily handled any unexpected situations. If you’re looking to escape the city and enjoy Korea’s beautiful natural scenery, I highly recommend the private taxi tour in Jecheon!
