Our Visit
Today, I visited a Korean BBQ restaurant called 'Yuksanjang' near Hongik univ. Station. The name 'Yuksanjang' gives off the vibe of a mountain villa, even from the outside.
Another charming aspect of Yuksanjang is the terrace, which makes you feel like you're at a camping site in the city. If you visit in the evening, the atmosphere becomes even more romantic.
Since the meat is grilled for you, the flavor is guaranteed, and it was great to enjoy the meal comfortably.
The interior of Yuksanjang mirrors the mountain lodge vibe from the outside, with a touch of traditional atmosphere. The tables are spaced widely apart, allowing for a comfortable dining experience.
In the center of Yuksanjang, there’s a large metal grill surrounded by bricks where they cook the meat. A humidifier around the grill gives the illusion of flames, adding a unique and charming touch.
Once we placed our order, the table was quickly set. Yuksanjang offers a variety of vegetable skewers, cheese, tofu kimchi, rice cake wraps, and four different sauces, all enhancing the flavor of the meat. The colorful side dishes are not only delicious but also visually appealing.
The pork belly we ordered is being grilled on the large iron plate. During the grilling process, there's even a fire show, making the wait for the food entertaining.
Sanjang Samgyeop Plate (200g)
Grill the marinated meat on the table's grill and you can eat it right away.
Generously grilled pork belly slices are cut into perfect sizes.
Now, let's try the samgyeopsal! Dip it in the Yuzupon sauce first. The salty soy sauce combined with the refreshing yuzu creates a unique and delicious flavor.
Next, I'll try dipping it in ssamjang as well.
Finally, I tried the samgyeopsal with tonkatsu sauce and breadcrumbs—a combination you don’t usually find at a typical BBQ restaurant. Dipping the pork belly in different sauces each time adds variety, making the meal even more enjoyable.
At Yuksanjang, along with the pork belly, a variety of side dishes are provided to enhance the meal.
The chewy texture of the rice cake wrap is perfect for wrapping the meat. While rice cakes are tasty on their own, they’re even better when lightly grilled!
Be sure to try the combination of tofu and kimchi—it's a must!
I also recommend pairing the pork belly with water parsley and bean sprouts. The fragrant water parsley and crunchy, spicy bean sprouts help cut through the richness of the meat.
Next, I will try the galbi!
Galbi is also served after being grilled on a hot plate.
Sanjang Special Plate
Place it back on the table grill and torch it for an extra smoky flavor. It really enhances the taste!
For galbi, unlike samgyeopsal, it's best to cook it a little longer on the grill and make sure it's fully cooked before eating.
The bone marrow has a rich, savory taste. Paired with the perfectly fatty prime ribs, the smooth, nutty flavor of the marrow elevates the meat's savory taste, making it even more delicious.
First, I will drizzle a generous amount of whole grain mustard sauce to enhance the taste.
Next, I will taste the sauce that combines the rich flavor of truffle and the smooth texture of mayonnaise, called truffle mayo.
There are various vegetable skewers to try, including mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, eggplant, bell peppers, and green onions. Once cooked, they’re removed from the skewers and ready to enjoy.
The grilled paprika, rich with flavor and fragrance, added a burst of different tastes and textures when eaten together with the other ingredients.
Now I will introduce you to the side dishes that you can enjoy with the meat menu.
Hanwoo Yukhoe Mulhoe
The first dish is Hanwoo Yukhoe Mulhoe. Unlike the usual raw fish Mulhoe, this one is made with fresh beef tartare.
While the meat is delicious, it can feel a bit heavy if you have too much. The refreshing and tangy taste of Yukhoe Mulhoe helps balance it perfectly.

Next, I tried the yukhoe. It’s served on top of a meat bone instead of a plate, giving it a special touch!
Spicy Buldak Ramen
Anyone can enjoy the tasty fire chicken stir-fried noodles. The spicy Buldak noodles paired with a savory, half-cooked fried egg is an unbeatable combination!
Premium Galbi Doenjang Jjigae
This special Premium Galbi Doenjang Jjigae is a must-try at a Korean BBQ restaurant. The rich juices from the galbi blend perfectly with the savory soy bean paste.
Highball
You can't forget the alcohol menu, right? The highball, served in a moon jar, contains strawberries, pears, and cinnamon, offering a fresh and sweet taste. Herb leaves and fruits make this visually striking drink the signature beverage of the restaurant!
Yuksanjang, just a short walk from Hongik univ. Station, is the perfect spot to experience authentic Korean BBQ. With cozy indoor and outdoor seating and expertly cooked meat, it’s ideal for a relaxed meal.
