Our Visit

Today I visited Hwachunok Cheongdam Branch located near Apgujeong Rodeo Station. It is famous restaurant with a 79-year tradition that has been passed down for three generations since 1945.

Hwachunok Cheongdam Branch is known as a place where various people, from presidents to high-ranking officials and famous celebrities enjoy visiting.

They also have The Blue Ribbon Survey, which is only given to the best restaurants!

As soon as you enter, you can see many signatures such as Twice Jihyo, EXO, and other famous celebrities. They also have a plate famous for bringing positive energy when you touch it. Actually, there is a case of a guest who visited Hwachunok Cheongdam Branch and touch the plate, winning the first prize in the lottery!

Both the first and second floors have plenty of seats, and the spacing between tables is also wide, making it a comfortable environment to enjoy your meal.

The private rooms are located in the second floor.

Private rooms have a spacious and sophisticated atmosphere, recommended for gatherings or company dinners.

Hwachunok Cheongdam Branch is the oldest galbi restaurant in South Korea. It is also recorded at the Suwon City Museum of Art and is recognized as the beginning of the culture of Korean Galbi.

There are also English, Chinese, and Japanese brochures available for foreign visitors.

We ordered Hwachunok Galbi Set, King Galbitang, and Hanwoo Yukhoe.

They are also a part of CESCO which means you don't have to worry about the hygiene.

As a basic side dish, various side dishes such as sweet and savory japchae, kimchi, vegetable salad, and refreshing lettuce pickles are provided.

The seasoned marinated crab served as a basic side dish is very fresh. The spiciness level is just enough, so even people who are not good at eating spicy food can enjoy it.

King Galbitang

King Galbitang is a must-order menu item. The name King Galbitang is appropriate because it contains generous ribs.

The special sauce provided together is tangy yet savory, which goes perfect with the galbi.

Fresh beef ribs

Hwachunok Galbi looks fresh and of good quality at a glance.

The galbi ribs at Hwachunok has a length of up to 12cm! You can see why they have the reputation of being the origin of king ribs!

The staff also helps you with the cutting the meat!

At Hwachunok, they grill the ribs to about 85% on the grill, then use the residual heat from the mini grill to finish cooking. They keep the temperature on the mini grill so that the meat doesn't cool down, so you can enjoy it warm until the last bite.

Tenderly grilled meat that looks delicious just by looking at it!

When you lightly dip the deliciously grilled fresh galbi in salt, the savory and moist taste of the galbi fills your mouth. The clean taste of salt is perfectly harmonized with the aged fresh ribs.

Marinated Ribs

The seasoned ribs are made with a salt-based seasoning without soy sauce, so that you can taste the true flavor of the beef itself. The seasoning goes through a high degree of maturation process, similar to jar aging, to deeply penetrate.

The marinated ribs are seasoned on matured meat, creating a perfect harmony between the natural savory flavor of the meat and the sweetness of the seasoning.

Deliciously grilled seasoned ribs can be enjoyed warm on top of the Galbitdae so that the heat does not cool down. Generally, seasoned ribs are often too salty, covering the original taste of the meat, but the seasoned ribs at Hwachunok blend the original mildness of the meat and the flavor of the seasoning perfectly, allowing you to fully appreciate the original taste of the ribs.

Homemade pomegranate wine brewed at Hwachunok is the best pairing with galbi. A slightly tangy and sweet wine meets seasoned ribs, making your mouth feel fresh.

Hwachunok Cheongdam branch also mades very good quality Yukhoe. When you burst the egg yolk, the yukhoe becomes even softer, and when you take a mouthful, the savory seasoning and yukhoe blend well together.

By using only fresh ingredients without any seasoning, you can feel the authenticity and simplicity of Hwachunok's menu. If you want to experience the true taste of original Korean galbi, we highly recommend Hwachunok Cheongdam branch, which offers the best taste and quality!
