Our Visit

Today, I've visited My Shopper Apgujeong branch for personal color analysis and makeup, also widely popular among Koreans and renowned for hosting many celebrities. Plus, it's right in the heart of trendy Apgujeong in Seoul, so it's a must-visit when you're around the area.

Makeup is on the 1st floor, and personal color sessions are on the 2nd. I headed up to the 2nd floor and started with the personal color analysis!

Inside, various color charts and color drapes are displayed. Among the many options they offer, I've decided to go with the 'Personal Color + Makeup 1:1' session.

Before the analysis, you fill out a quick pre-interview form, sharing your accessory preferences, desired image, usual makeup habits, and specific areas you want advice on. Since I've had struggles picking lip and clothing colors, I've hoped to hear some insights in these areas!

In addition to the pre-interview form, you'll receive a chart after the analysis. You get really curious about what tone will come out and how different it might be from what you shared in the pre-interview!

The session started by learning the whole personal color concept. There are a total of 16 personal color types, broadly grouped into four seasons. Each season has its own vibe, and the way you style yourself varies accordingly.

After getting a grasp on personal color theory, you cover your hair and clothes with a white cloth for the analysis to ensure accurate results without any color interference.

You start the analysis by trying different color drapes under your face, trying gold, silver, and soft gold to find the best accessory color. I've been suggested going for silver or soft gold, as gold makes my skin look dull!

The next step was checking the difference in skin tone by alternating fabrics in similar season colors with different tones. I initially thought warm undertones were more suitable, but trying warm colors surprisingly made the area around my eyes appear darker!

Also trying blue tones, it was interesting to find out that cool shades brightened my complexion more than shades with a hint of yellow.

Brown and beige colors are my usual favorites when choosing clothes, but they surprisingly didn't complement my skin tone well compared to other colors. So you might also be surprised to learn that the colors you think suit you well may not be the best choices after all!

Now that you know your colors, it's time to find out which patterns suit you the most. Depending on their size and contrast, you can find out which pattern works best for you. For me, smaller patterns with subtle color contrasts worked better than larger ones.

Once you've got a general idea of your season colors, the next step is to take a closer look at a color palette consisting of similar tones. The lighter tones seemed to harmonize more naturally with my skin than the vivid ones.

Indeed, the blend of grayish tones evened out the overall skin tone and gave it a brighter look, which was surprising as these are the colors I don't usually use.

You can also explore a wider variety of patterns. Even with similar floral patterns, the size and the contrast of colors can change the overall feeling. Knowing these details seems useful in daily life.

As a last step, you can also compare the glossy and matte fabrics. A natural sheen was more suitable for me, as it made the skin look healthier. When applying makeup, avoiding a completely matte finish seems like a good idea!

Like this, the personal color analysis was completed, and it turns out to be Summer Cool Muted Tone!

Despite the whole analysis being a little bit pricey, knowing that you can keep using the insights from the analysis for future makeup and clothing choices sounds like a good investment.

Summer Cool Muted tone is explained as a sophisticated personal color, complementing the clear and clean image of summer.

You are also provided with the specific makeup product names, fashion style, hair color, and jewelry that suit you best. Don't worry if you miss a detail, as you'll also receive all the information in a separate email afterwards.

If you bring the makeup you usually use, you can see how well it suits your personal color. I was told that warm-toned eyeshadows and lip colors don't look good, so if you are suggested the same, you might consider getting new makeup on your way back home!

Once you go through your own makeup products, you can also take a look at a diverse selection of makeup with suitable colors.

Unlike my usual choices, they recommended lighter and cooler shades for eyeshadows. Don't be surprised if you are also presented with refreshing and new colors that you don't often see in your makeup bag!

You can also get lip products tested on your wrist, ranging from the most flattering color to ones that are easy to wear, which will be a great help when buying cosmetics.

You can also test out any color you'd like to try. You might find that you look much better in a different color than what you actually wear.

You may also take pictures of your recommended products and refer to them later while shopping. Knowing the specific product names sounds so convenient!

Now that the personal color analysis is finished, it's time to go back downstairs for a semi-makeup session.

Sit back and enjoy your personalized makeup session!

First, they smooth out the eyebrows and skin texture, which is a crucial step for achieving a flawless complexion.

The next step was foundation, which is applied with a brush first and then dabbed with a sponge, but the method can vary depending on the makeup style.

The foundation was meticulously applied, even to the areas that are easy to overlook, like under the nose and the dark circle area.

After foundation, they removed excess oil with powder and then shaped the eyebrows to match their natural shape, giving them a neat look.

Now, it's time for eye makeup, using the tailored colors from your personal color analysis.

Despite not using an eyelash curler and mascara often, they've made a big difference in the overall appearance, as my eyes looked more vibrant.

They also shape your eyebrows with the current trendy method, with tweezers and a heated lash curler, for a more stunning look.

The blush matches well with the summer cool muted tone, also created a natural and subtle look.

The next step was using shade and highlight, which enhance the dimensional appearance of the face, making it look great in photos.

Last but not least, finalize your look with the matching lip color and complete your makeup!

Using subtle, translucent colors definitely gave off a different and calm vibe.

*After

After the analysis, you will definitely feel that your overall vibe looks more harmonious and well-matched with your image!

Overall, learning about personal color and getting customized makeup was a fun experience! You may be surprised to find out that what you thought suited you is the opposite, but it's never too late to find out. If you're interested in finding makeup that suits your personal color, I highly recommend 'My Shopper'!
