Our Visit
Today, we visited "Ghost Black Yeonnam," the only traditional Texas barbecue restaurant in Yeonnam-dong. It is located about a 10-minute walk from Exit 3 of Hongdae Station.
Ghost Black Yeonnam is a large restaurant with a spacious layout, spanning three floors from the basement to the second floor, and it has a unique atmosphere.
The first floor's Green Room is spacious and private, perfect for dining with children and pets, with child-friendly utensils and tables. The second floor, with the counter, has a red theme and vintage decor that feels like Texas. The third floor offers a wide-open dining area, ideal for group gatherings.
On nice days, you can dine on the rooftop, which is also pet-friendly. The colorful, hip rooftop is perfect for Instagram photos and selfies. Each floor has a unique theme and color, making it feel like a pop art exhibition.
Black Platter (for 2-3)
Today, I ordered the Black Platter (for 2-3 people). The Black Platter includes brisket, spare ribs, sausage, pork belly, pulled pork, and various sides and sauces. The portions were generous, perfect for 2-3 people to eat heartily!
Ghost Black Yeonnam specializes in traditional Texas BBQ, using the low and slow method to smoke meats for over 16 hours. Their main chef, who trained in Texas, ensures you experience high-quality, authentic Texas barbecue.
First, I tried the brisket. Smoked for 12 hours, the brisket was moist and tender. Adding the sauce and sides to the fatty brisket added a slight saltiness that balanced the fat, making it melt in my mouth.
Next, I tried the spare ribs. You can tell just by looking that they were smoked for 6-8 hours, making them incredibly tender! They are coated with the restaurant’s unique sweet sauce, adding a rich flavor. I personally recommend dipping them in the barbecue sauce!
The pork belly, smoked for 4 hours, was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, making it deliciously light. The smoking process gives it a unique flavor that isn't as greasy as regular pork belly.
Next, I tried the pulled pork, which was cooked for 12 hours and shredded. I combined the pulled pork with various sides to create mini burgers, stuffing it into a moist bun with plenty of coleslaw. I also made wraps by putting the pulled pork, sauces, and coleslaw on a tortilla, resulting in a perfect burger or wrap experience!
Finally, I enjoyed the deliciously grilled sausage, which was cut into bite-sized pieces. Eating it with the grilled pineapple brought out a delightful combination of sweet and savory flavors. The sausage was juicy, which is its main appeal.
Next time I visit, I plan to relax with a beer and enjoy the Ghost Beef Rib Platter. It was great experiencing high-quality traditional Texas barbecue in the lively area of Yeonnam. If you want to try something different during your trip to Korea, I highly recommend "Ghost Black Yeonnam" for authentic Texas-style barbecue!
