Our Visit

Today, I visited Yeonnamjumak 1987 where I could taste sweet and refreshing Makgeolli.
Yeonnamjumak 1987 is located less than a 5-minute walk from Hongik University Station exit 3.
When you arrive, you can feel the market concept vividly because menus are hung on the roof.

Especially Yeonnamjumak 1987 is a verified restaurant that was recently featured on a Korean food program called 'Live Broadcast Today,'
Retro fever has brought back the atmosphere of the 80s, and you can taste the spicy and savory Gopdoritang and the hot and refreshing Kkotdoritang.
It was already a hot spot, but after the broadcast, more Koreans are visiting, so reservations have become a necessity.

The interior is decorated with traditional Korean patterns and the atmosphere of an old house, and there are tissues hanging everywhere, which makes it fun to look at.
Also, there is a blanket and charger inside, so you can use it freely.

Koreans live on rice! Just like at Yeonnamjumak 1987, after eating Dakdoritang, they can remove the bones and stir-fry the rice.
You can order the toppings you want and stir-fry them.
Here, the tip is to leave a small amount of ingredients such as gopchang, mukeunji, and kkotge and stir-fry them with 3 tablespoons of broth and rice to enjoy a flavorful meal.

The menu board includes pictures for each menu item, so even if you don't know Korean well, you can easily place an order.
If you want to drink makgeolli, please check the back of the menu!

After presenting the reservation details, I sat down and they provided me with side dishes, water, and utensils as a basic setup.
As a side dish, sweet and sour pickled onions came out.
In order to capture the taste of the past, pickled radishes are the best!
*Set 1 Flower Doritang + Yukgaejang
*Set 3 Flower Doritang + Half and Half Jeon

*Set 4 Galbitang + Banbanjeon

*Gopdoritang (combination of Gopchang and Dakdoritang)

The gopdoritang is already cooked thoroughly so you can eat the soup directly.
곱창은 가위로 잘라서 국물과 같이 조금 더 끓여주면 돼요.
Gopchang can be cut with scissors and then simmered with some broth.
Gopchang and dakgogi's rich and slightly spicy broth is full of addictively delicious flavors, and if you eat fried rice afterwards, the fried rice will also have a deep taste!

*Flower Doritang (Flower Crab + Chicken Doritang)

The highlight of Yeonnamjumak1987 is the Flower Dori Tang, which is filled with plenty of crab and chicken in a pot. The broth has a rich and thick taste, making it perfect as a side dish to enjoy with alcohol.
The visual is also sophisticated and abundant, and the actual soup is also rich and the combination of crab and chicken is fresh and goes well.

The flower crab was really abundant in the crab soup and it was also filled with meat, so it was easy to eat.
Especially the chicken in the kkotdoritang and gopdoritang can be changed to all boneless chicken as an additional option, and you can also change the flavor by adding glass noodles and making it spicy.
Among them, if you change the chicken to boneless, you can enjoy it more comfortably.

*Half and Half (Seafood Pancake + Pork Belly Kimchi Pancake)

Whenever I go to a 전집 (Korean pancake restaurant), I always find myself pondering whether to eat 해물파전 (seafood and green onion pancake) or 김치전 (kimchi pancake).
In Yeonnamjumak 1987, you don't have to worry about that.
There is a half and half pancake called 'Haemul Pajeon' which is made by mixing seafood pancake and kimchi pancake!
Even kimchi pancakes have plenty of pork belly in them, so you can enjoy them even more deliciously.
Samgyeopsal is easier to eat if you cut it into bite-sized pieces using scissors because it doesn't tear easily with chopsticks.
*Yuksejeon (combination of Yukjeon and Saewujeon)

When plump shrimp and tender meat are added, yukjeon (a Korean dish) comes out with a sauce that goes well together, and when dipped and eaten, it reduces the greasiness of the jeon (Korean pancake) and brings out a savory taste.

The egg mixture was plentifully soaked, making the throat feel smooth, and there was a popping sensation of shrimp and meat inside the mouth.
When you eat the onion pickles that come as a side dish with radish, the sweet and sour seasoning of the radish seeps into the onion and you can taste another flavor.

*Honey Peach Makgeolli

Yeonnamjumak 1987's signature honey peach makgeolli was also ordered.
The honey peach makgeolli, which tastes almost like a peach drink with barely any alcohol taste, goes down smoothly without any subtleties.
Especially, there is plenty of peach flesh on top and it is floating in crushed ice, so it captures both sweetness and refreshingness at the same time.
Honey peach makgeolli, as well as yogurt makgeolli, dulce de leche makgeolli, sweet potato makgeolli, and other signature makgeolli from Yeonnamjumak 1987. Be sure to try them!
