Our Visit
Today, we visited the renowned Yukhoe restaurant, Bakgane Yukhoe, located in Gwangjang Market. Bakgane Yukhoe is conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from Jongno 5-ga Station, Exit 7.
You can see the menu right from the entrance. On the left side of the entrance, there is an aquarium with squirming live octopuses. These octopuses are the ingredients used in the Yukhoe Tangtangi!
Bakgane Yukhoe has even been featured on NETFLIX!
On the right side of the entrance, a staff member is carefully preparing and plating the Yukhoe. If you stand at the front, you can see the whole process of laying out the beef and adding the egg on top. It guarantees their hygiene!
As we went inside, the reserved menus were all ready and waiting. Shall we give them a try now?
I was surprised to find a generous amount of Yukhoe in the Yukhoe Bibimbap. In other places, when ordering Yukhoe Bibimbap, the amount of Yukhoe is often not enough, and it gets mixed with vegetables. After adding the red pepper paste to my preference and mixing it well, I enjoyed a flavorful Yukhoe Bibimbap!
Yukhoe Kimbap is one of the main reasons why people come to Bakgane Yukhoe. Each Kimbap is generously filled with a substantial amount of Yukhoe, and they are huge.
First, beat the egg to mix it well with the sauce.
The seasoning is perfectly balanced, allowing you to savor the taste of Yukhoe from the beginning to the end. With its rich and sweet flavor, the Kimbap is packed with the essence of Yukhoe seasoning, the delightful dipping sauce, and the nutty aroma of sesame leaves, all combined into one delicious bite.
Next, I'll mix the egg yolk on top of the Yukhoe to blend it well. As I was enjoying the Yukhoe, the live octopus kept wriggling around. When you order the Yukhoe Tangtangi, they immediately take out a live octopus and skillfully prepare it right there, slicing it up for the dish.
Dipping the Yukhoe and live octopus in the seasoned sesame oil makes for a delightful combination. The Yukhoe is not heavily seasoned so it may taste a bit mild. In this case, you can dip it in the seasoned sesame oil, it adds a nutty and savory flavor that complements the dish perfectly.
Hanwoo Yukjeon may be a bit more expensive, but it stands out from other Yukjeon dishes as it is made with Hanwoo beef, making it exceptionally tender and flavorful. Moreover, the green onion salad that comes with it helps to balance the greasiness of the Yukjeon, making it even more delicious when you eat them together.
The Yukhoe at Bakgane Yukhoe stands out from the heavily seasoned Yukhoe dishes found elsewhere, offering a milder and nuttier flavor, which is truly delightful. If you feel like there's too much raw food on the menu, try ordering the Yukjeon to enjoy alongside the Yukhoe! It is a great combination. If you visit Bakgane Yukhoe, make sure to try the Yukhoe Kimbap and savor a delicious and satisfying meal!
How to Get There
Leave Exit 7 at Jongno 5-ga Station.
Walk straight after exiting the station.
Make an immediate right turn at the first alley. (East entrance of Gwangjang Market)
Continue straight until you reach the intersection (approximately 70 meters).
When you see an alley, make an immediate right turn.
After making the right turn, walk straight for about 10 meters, and you will see a sign ahead.
