Changsin Yukhoe 2nd Branch | Korean food in Gwangjang Market
Try the infamous yukhoe(Korean beef tartare) and live octopus at one of Gwangjang Market's most famous stalls!
Have you heard of Yukhoe? Yukhoe is a Korean dish made by mixing thinly sliced raw beef with various seasonings such as sugar, salt, soy sauce, garlic, sesame oil, and pear juice without cooking the beef. Yukhoe, which is basically Korean steak tartare, has different seasoning flavors depending on each individual's taste, so the taste varies by store, but each has its own charm. Today, I will introduce you to a beef tartare restaurant, 'Changsin Yukhoe 2nd Branch,' located in Gwangjang Market, which is known to have the best yukhoe in Seoul.

Our Visit
Today, I visited the second branch of Changsin Yukhoe located in Gwangjang Market. Changsin Yukhoe has a total of 4 branches, and each one has a different charm because of the owner's unique style. Various menus such as bindaetteok, scallion pancakes, and yukhoe bibimbap, which you can enjoy in addition to beef tartare, are available.
The inside is tightly packed with dining tables. Thanks to that, when there are many customers, the beef tartare comes out quickly and there are many seats, so the turnover rate is good. The white-toned table and pink chairs remind me of the combination of raw beef and pear!
Since they have many foreign customers, they have English, Chinese, and Japanese menus below the basic Korean menu so that there is no difficulty in ordering.
Although the space between the tables may be narrow and hard to see, the utensil set and tissue are located in the drawer next to the table.
* Beef tartare (200g) 19,000 KRW
*Beef Tartare Rice Bowl 9,000 KRW
*Squid pancake 13,000 KRW
*Mung bean pancakes for 5,000 KRW
*3 Set (Yukhoe+Sashimi+San-nakji(live octopus) 42,000 KRW
We went and had the set with the 3 most popular dishes. In the set, there are three items in total, including beef tartare, beef tartare sashimi, and live octopus, which are placed in the middle of the plate and underneath the beef tartare.
Before eating the beef tartare, first crack the yolk and mix it together. The reason for adding egg yolk to beef tartare is to soften the texture of the meat while adding a rich flavor and making it easier to swallow. If you're still curious, you can try eating beef tartare without mixing the egg yolk! There's no better enlightenment than experiencing it firsthand!
They served thinly sliced raw beef with pear on the side. The reason to eat it with pear is because pear contains digestive enzymes and its sweetness and crunchiness goes well with raw beef tartare.
With the addition of pear juice to the seasoning, even just eating the beef tartare alone gives a sweet taste. When eaten with pear, the tenderness of the beef tartare and the crispness of the pear create a harmony in the mouth.
Raw beef sashimi is simply dipped in soy sauce and wrapped in seaweed. The thick texture of the sashimi and the savory taste of the seaweed combine to fill your mouth with flavor. Instead of just dipping it in soy sauce, you can also dip it in oil sauce to fully appreciate the taste of the sushi.
When you lightly touch the live octopus with chopsticks, it wriggles and moves around. Some octopi are difficult to detach from the plate because their suction cups stick to it. Octopus may seem unappetizing to foreign tourists, but nowadays many people try it out of curiosity. In addition, when you put octopus in your mouth, the chewy texture makes it difficult for people to escape from falling in love with it. Furthermore, live octopus has effects such as detoxification, prevention of adult diseases, and improvement of endurance, so give it a try!
There is a moment when you eat raw beef and feel thirsty, and that's when you should eat radish soup. When you drink mukguk, you can feel the refreshing sensation of the raw beef that was placed on top immediately going down.
