Why We Recommend It

This place specializes in grilled pork and garden eel. They receive fresh meat every day from Majang-dong, ensuring the high quality.

They roll the pork sirloin into a circular shape, which is called Donggeurangttaeng in Korean, and marinate with Gochujang (red chili paste) seasoning. The seasoning infuses deeply into the meat, enhancing its flavor.

It is a famous restaurant in Gwangjang Market that has been featured in various TV shows like Running Man and Huh Young Man's Food Travel.

With a charcoal grill, the meat cooks quickly, and you can taste a richer smoky flavor.

By booking on Creatrip, you can visit the restaurant without waiting and enjoy your meal right away.

Our Visit

Entrance of Orai, a famous restaurant in Gwangjang Market, Seoul, offering Donggeurangttaeng and grilled eel.

Today, we visited Orai, located inside Gwangjang Market. Orai is a famous restaurant among Koreans, known for its delicious dishes. They specialize in Donggeurangttaeng (동그랑땡), a grilled pork sirloin seasoned with Gochujang, and are also renowned for their tasty Garden Eel (꼼장어).

The restaurant is divided into two sections. It is spacious and comfortable, allowing for a good turnover even when there are many people or a waiting list. However, if you make a reservation on Creatrip, you don't have to wait!

With a simple menu consisting of five items, it's clear that Orai is indeed a specialty restaurant focused on grilled pork and grilled garden Eel.

The side dishes arrived right after we placed our order. Starting with the spring Onion Kimchi, Dongchimi (water-based radish kimchi), fresh sliced radish salad, and various sauces, they were all prepared and ready to accompany the meat.

As you can see from the prices, 15,000 KRW for 200g of meat is quite reasonable in Seoul. In other places, you may find prices that exceed 10,000 KRW for just 180g or even 150g. The Donggeurangttaeng is shaped like a hamburger patty, and for the Garden Eel, you can see the inside. We tried the Donggeurangttaeng and enjoyed its taste.

Orai’s charred and marinated Donggeurangttaeng sizzling on a traditional Korean charcoal BBQ grill.

They place a grill on top of the charcoal fire and preheat it slightly before placing the meat directly on it. Thinly sliced sirloin, especially when marinated, cooks quickly, so it is important to flip and cut at the right time!

We cut the meat into bite-sized pieces and cook it a bit longer to ensure it's perfect for consumption. Since it has the Gochujang seasoning coating, the edges quickly turn dark.

Jongno 5-ga subway station exit 7, a common starting point to reach Gwangjang Market in Seoul.

The Donggeurangttaeng turned out crispy and well-cooked! Despite the Gochujang seasoning, it wasn't spicy at all. Instead, it had a delightful sweet and spicy flavor. It pairs perfectly when wrapped with lettuce. Try the unique and delicious Gochujang-seasoned Donggeurangttaeng at Orai in Gwangjang Market!
