Do you have a preferred food to eat on rainy days? In Korea, when it rains, many people eat a lot of pancakes or "pajeon" with "makgeolli," a Korean traditional rice wine. Pancakes can be enjoyed by dipping them in tteokbokki sauce, soy sauce, or even eaten wrapped in kimchi. Today, I'll introduce a pancake restaurant located in Myeongdong. Our Visit
Today, I visited Janggeum Pancake House located in Myeongdong. Even though I went after lunchtime, there were still a lot of people. When we went there, out of six tables, three tables were occupied by foreign customers!
It would be atmospheric and enjoyable to sit by the window on a rainy day, eating pancakes while looking outside.
It seems like the fridge was fully stocked with alcohol. Am I the only one who only noticed makgeolli?
Ginseng liquor is also placed next to the fridge. If you want to try it, you can ask the owner!
I heard that the owner tried to include as many Korean traditional dishes as possible for foreign customers. When the editor visited the restaurant, there were even foreign customers who ordered jjajangmyeon, a Korean-style Chinese noodle dish.
Today's basic side dishes were kimchi, pickled radish, soybean sprouts, and mapo tofu. Soybean sprouts and kimchi are almost always served as side dishes, while the other two can change from time to time.

During the visit, we had a dish called "haemul bokkeum," which is a stir-fried seafood dish that includes various seafood such as whole and sliced octopus, squid, mussels, clams, and whole shrimp. The dish is seasoned with a savory and spicy sauce, and the editor enjoyed the combination of flavors. The owner personally cut the whole squid and shrimp for the dish.
Do you know what the characteristics of Koreans are? One of them is that they often stir-fry their leftovers with rice after finishing a meal such as Jeongol or stir-fried dishes. Similarly, when eating seafood stir-fry, they usually ask the restaurant owner to stir-fry their rice with the remaining sauce.
However, mixing the soup with rice and eating it is much more delicious than just having the stir-fry as a side dish like banchan. I think the stir-fry would have even more flavor if it is mixed with the soup because the basic seasoning is already tasty.
For those who book accommodations near Myeongdong, it's said that they often get various types of Korean pancakes, such as "pajeon" or "jeon," wrapped and take them back to their accommodations to eat. Since many restaurants offer take-out services, you can take advantage of it and actively try it out!
