Our Visit

Today, I visited the meat restaurant "Cheonha Jaeil Stone Lid" located in Myeongdong. The unique feature of Cheonha Jaeil Stone Lid is that the meat is grilled on a stone lid on a charcoal fire, and the ability to grill various herbs and vegetables together with the meat is its attractive point. I went there around 3 PM and there were no customers, so I was able to enjoy the meal leisurely.

It's a side dish refrigerator. The dishes are neatly organized, which emphasizes the cleanliness of the store. The side dishes are not self-service, so if you need more, you can simply ask one of the staff members.

There were various types of alcohol arranged in the refrigerator. When it comes to pork belly, soju is a must-have!

You sat at a table near the window. While waiting for the meat to cook, it was fun to watch the people passing by.

Most Korean meat restaurants have a separate space under the chairs for storing belongings, so there's no need to worry about the smell. If such chairs are not available, don't worry, they will provide a large bag for storing your belongings.

After ordering the menu, they immediately placed the stone lid on the table. It's hard to see in photos, but the table was really big to the point that it was almost full.

On the far left side of the table, there were layers of small plates for the appetizers and dipping sauces. Pork belly tastes delicious with either ssamjang (a spicy dipping sauce) or salt, it's up to your preference!

When you order meat, these side dishes are usually served as a default. Instead of doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), this restaurant served sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew). They mentioned that the sundubu jjigae needs to be ordered separately, but it was a perfect match for the greasy meat and helped to wash it down easily.

We ordered the "Cheonhajaeil Special" menu. In addition to salt and ssamjang, we were also given a variety of other dipping sauces, adding to the enjoyment of selecting and trying out different flavors.

The "Cheonhajaeil Special" menu includes old-fashioned pork belly, pork upper ribs, and pork skin. Green tea powder was sprinkled on top, and the subtle green tea aroma that spreads when eating later made me feel happy unconsciously.

First, they oil up the stone lid grill using a piece of pork lard.

They also put various herbs such as kimchi, water parsley(minari), bean sprouts, and meat on the grill together.

The key point is to not overcook the meat! Once the meat is cooked to a certain degree, they also cut the kimchi and herbs into bite-sized pieces for easier eating.

The tofu that came with the Cheonhajaeil Special menu were great for reducing the greasiness of the meat.

We enjoy eating kimchi wrapped around the meat, and the kimchi served here was particularly delicious, perhaps because the owner makes it themselves. After finishing the meat, we continued to eat the kimchi by itself!

I tried eating the meat with kimchi and gosari, a Korean vegetable, and the crispiness of the meat, the spicy and sour taste of the kimchi, and the mildness of the fernbrake complemented each other very well. Try experimenting with different herbs and vegetables to feel the difference in taste!
