Cheorwon, also known as the paradise of migratory birds, was a fierce battlefield during the Korean War in 1950-53. After the war, the area where the wide paddy fields used to be fought for became a DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) covered by barbed wire fences, which preserved the untouched nature of the area, creating the Cheorwon DMZ. Today, we've prepared a tour package that will allow you to learn more deeply about Korean history by visiting the Cheorwon DMZ. Let's follow the traces of history, starting from Goseokjeong, passing through the Peace Observatory, and finally arriving at Woljeong-ri Station.

Goseokjeong is one of the eight scenic spots of Cheorwon and the most famous tourist attraction in Cheorwon. Currently, there is a natural stone chamber where the legendary Korean folk hero, Im Kkeok-jeong, hid during a battle on a giant rock in the middle of the river, and on the other side, there are remains of an ancient fortress. Moreover, this place is equipped with a large grassy area and a multi-purpose sports field, making it a popular destination for tourists all year round.
Peace Observatory

The Peace Observatory is an observation deck where visitors can see the Cheorwon Demilitarized Zone and the North Korean area at a glance. It is equipped with exhibitions and photographs of the DMZ, including a replica of the second tunnel, military barracks, and a checkpoint. A 50-seater monorail is available to make it easier for tourists to access the observatory. Visitors can also see the ancient fortress of Taebongguk and the Cheorwon plain at a glance, and observe the North Korean army through binoculars.
Woljeongri Station

Woljeongri Station is the nearest train station to the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) on the southern part of the DMZ. During the Korean War, the station was the site of fierce battles and the stopped train at the station symbolizes the divided history of Korea. Currently, the station is operated as a tourism course by Cheorwon County and attracts many visitors every year.
Baekma Battle Monument

The Baekma Battle Monument is the site of one of the fiercest battles of the Korean War, the Baekma Battle. Even just looking at the warning sign in the photo can be intimidating, so visit the Baekma Battle Monument and feel the vividness of the war at that time.
The Second Infiltration Tunnel

The Second Tunnel, discovered on March 19, 1975, is a tunnel dug by the North Korean military as part of their invasion plan against South Korea. Located at depths ranging from 50 to 160 meters underground, the total length of the tunnel is 3.5 kilometers. Inside the tunnel, there is a spacious square where a large number of troops can gather, and it has three separate exits. The Second Tunnel is currently operated by Cheorwon County as part of the DMZ Peace Tourism Course, and it attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists every year.
