You cannot get an ombre or balayage procedure done if your hair has been bleached or dyed using black or red tones.

Our Visit

Mood'e is a hair salon that specializes in ombre and balayage hair-dyeing and is located just 2 minutes from Sinyongsan Station. It is the best place to come to for a balayage or ombre, so we made a visit ourselves! 'Ombre' is a technique in which the hair at and near the roots are a darker color, then gradually becomes lighter from the middle to the ends.

The salon had a wood-toned theme, so it was very neat and clean. The salon has enough space for about 6 people to get their hair done, and had a separate area for waiting and washing hair.

This is my hair before the procedure. I had originally had my hair dyed brown, but the black roots grew out a lot. The procedure I decided to go with was a light brown (almost blonde) ombre.

Before dyeing the hair, the hair stylist trimmed the length a little bit.

If your hair has been bleached or dyed in red or black tones, it is difficult to do a hair dye procedure as it can affect the results. Before going fully into the dyeing process, the hair stylist tested out a small strip of hair to see if the color would come out well or not. If the hair stylist determines that the procedure won't turn out well, you unfortunately won't be able to get your hair dyed. Since my hair had not been previously dyed red or black, the tested strands came out clearly without the color being blotched, so we could start with the procedure!

First, the hair stylist toned-down the top portion of my hair, where the bleach wouldn't go. The ombre style I opted for was black and light brown, so the top portion needed to be toned-down.

Next was the bleaching process. First, the hair stylist applied bleach to strip the hair of its color and turn it yellow, leaving it on for about 30 minutes. The bleaching process took a bit longer, as the hair stylist needed to check my hair frequently to reapply bleach in any areas that needed more. It was also quite heavy because of the weight of the hair dye and the sheets of foil.

After 20-30 minutes, the hair stylist washed out the bleach from my hair and you could already see the 2-color gradation! The next step is to go over the bleached portion with a light brown color, and then the ombre style is complete!

It took another 20-30 minutes for the light brown hair dye to fully apply to the bleached hair. At this point, the foil sheets had all been removed, so it wasn't as heavy and it was easy for the hair stylists to reapply any dye if needed.

Lastly, they blow-dried my hair after washing out all the hair dye products. I felt that both the hair stylists were very meticulous and detailed when washing and drying my hair, so I trusted them completely!

The very last step is to dry and finish it off with a straightening iron. The total process took about 5 hours total, which was quite long, but they also provided coffee and snacks throughout the process, and it was fun to see my hair changing colors with each step. The results were totally worth it too!

You can see a big difference in the before and after photos. The ombre gave me a much more even, bright color, and I was really satisfied with the seamless combination of dark and light colors. If you want to try dyeing your hair in the ombre, sombre, or balayage style, I highly recommend mood'e! You definitely won't regret it!
