Gyeongbokgung Palace captures 500 years of the Joseon Dynasty's rich history. Ready to dive into its stories? Join us in exploring Seoul's iconic landmark!

The Gyeongbokgung Palace tour involves exploring around 10 buildings and symbols of the Joseon Dynasty, with guides explaining the stories and history behind them.

Gwanghwamun and Heungryemun

Gwanghwamun, the majestic main gate of Gyeongbokgung Palace, symbolizes the entrance to 500 years of history. Feel its grandeur as you step through.

Heungryemun is visible right when you enter the gates through Gwanghwamun. It is the gate that opens doors to the King's hall. There are several gates in the palace, find out what each one means!

Geunjeongmun and Geunjeongjeon

Through the gates of Heungryemun is Geunjeongmun and Geunjeongmun is the gate that leads to Geunjeongjeon, which is where important events like the royal coronation ceremonies were held.

The Geunjeongjeon has held many important national events. This is where servants would greet the King on New Year or where foreign diplomats were greeted. This building is considered the most beautiful piece of architecture inside the palace.

Sajeongjeon and Gangnyeongjeon

Next, you'll see where the King's living space is at Sajeongjeon.

Sajeongjeon is where the King spent most of his time. Most of the important decisions the King had to make were made in this room.

Gangnyeongjeon is where the King's bedroom was. This was where they started and ended their days.

Kyotaejeon and Amisan

Kyotaejeon is where the Queen spent most of her time. There is a secret about Kyotaejeon and if you're interested in finding out what it is, find out on this tour!

Amisan is the garden behind Kyotaejeon. The hill-shaped garden is said to be made from the dirt they dug out to make the Gyeonghoeru pond. Walk along the garden that the Queens of the Joseon Dynasty have walked.

Gyeonghoeru and Sujeongjeon

Gyeonghoeru is where they held royal parties for important events or to welcome foreign diplomats. The building is located in the middle of a pond so it is one of the most beautiful views in the palace! The combination of the trees that surround the pond, the grand roof, and the glistening waters together make a beautiful picture.

Sujeongjeon is where the Korean alphabet was born, one of the most historic moments in Korean history. King Sejong, the creator of the Korean alphabet, and many other scholars spent most of their time studying and working in this building.

We have spent a brief time going over the meaning of some of the buildings in Gyeongbokgung Palace. To get the full story and more about the 500 years' worth of stories that were born in the palace, book a morning tour of Gyeongbokgung Palace!
