Our Visit
Myeongdong, which is popular amongst tourists, is known to have the best exchange rate in Korea. Money Box in particular, happens to be one of the most popular currency exchanges in this area.
Money Box is located in the middle of a large intersection across from Shinsegae Department Store, close to the Chinese Embassy and Chinatown. You can get there by taking Line 2 to Euljiro 1-ga or Line 4 to Myeongdong Station.
This currency exchange location has quite a bit more space compared to other currency exchange locations. When you enter, you get a feeling similar to walking into a bank.
The interior is a simple, clean look that utilizes plants to add contrast to the otherwise plain but bright walls. In the middle, there is a counter where you can prepare your various documents and money before you go to the counter.
There are also phone chargers with various types of ports so you can charge your phone if the need arises.
The actual money exchange area will be on your right. The employees at Money Box are extremely friendly and can communicate in Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese so if you have any questions, you can ask them directly.
There are also large TV screens that display the real-time exchange rate of international currencies. That way you know what to expect before you approach the counter.
A nice touch about this particular Money Box is that in the waiting area, there is water and coffee available for customers in case there is a wait. This is more common with banks, but not for money exchanges.

First, you need to give the money you want to exchange to the employee, along with your form of identification. This can be either your passport or your Korean Resident Card (if applicable).
Then the staff will put the money you gave through the money counter to confirm the amount.
The screen will show the exchange rate. The amount you gave will appear in the lower left corner and the amount you will receive will show in the lower right corner.
Next, then will scan your form of ID to verify your identity.
Once again, you final details will be displayed on the screen. You will now see your personal information displayed with your currency exchange information.
Once the amount to be received is confirmed, the employee will prepare your Korean money. Finally, they will count the money to ensure you receive the correct amount.
In the end, you will receive your correct amount from the employee. In this particular exchange, the rate was 1 VND = 0.052 KRW. We exchanged 15 million VND and received 780,000 KRW as a result.
Another unique factor about Money Box is that it gives you an exchange receipt. In many currency exchange locations in Korea, they don't give receipts or they're simply handwritten, which can be off-putting for many travelers. Money Box will provide a printed invoice with the full details of your transaction so if there is any issues, you can take the receipt to the store to solve the issue.
If you need to exchange money outside of business hours, you can come use the automatic currency exchange machine on the outside. The automatic currency machine runs 24 hours a day and is available in English, Korean, Chinese and Japanese. Remember that if you use this machine, you cannot get the special Creatrip discount!

Please note that you still need to have a form of ID when using the automatic machine.
How to Get There
Take Line number 2 to Euljiro-1ga Station and take Exit 6. Then walk straight.
Go straight past Zara on Myeongdong's main street and follow the path to the right when you see Tworld.
Go straight down the street where Tworld and Starbucks are located.
Then keep going straight until you reach the intersection where the Shinsaegae Department Store is located. At the intersection, you'll see the Money Box on your left.
