When choosing where to stay during your visit to Seoul, there are many luxurious options but the Shilla Stay in the Samsung area is definitely worth the visit. Located right across from the famous Starfield COEX Mall, you can can enjoy everything from an amazing shopping experience to the amazing view from the 21st floor rooftop bar at the Shilla.

Our Visit

The Shilla Stay at Samsung is relatively new, having opened in April of 2020. It is considered a luxury hotel here in Seoul and is located near Exit 7 of Samsung Station. With a multitude of shopping options, such as the COEX Mall and the Hyundai Department Store, as well as popular cafes like Cafe Knotted located near by, the Shilla Stay is considered to be an ideal location for many!

In order to check into the Shilla, you first have to make your way to the 21st floor to find the lobby. Also located on the 21st floor is the famous rooftop bar overlooking the Samsung area. According to the directory of the hotel, all the guest rooms are located between the 5th and 19th floors, a cafe is located on the 20th floor, while other amenities such as the fitness center and laundry are located on the lower floors. Since this hotel is usually booked or business trips, it does not have leisure amenities such as a pool or large restaurant.

The standard check-in time is 3pm, and the check-out time is at 12pm. For an additional fee, you can request to late check-out as well. In order to check in, we needed to provide the name under the reservation, our ID, and fill out some paperwork in order to receive our room key. 

For this visit, we booked a Comfort Leisure room. It comes equipped with a variety of entertainment and relaxation options such as full streaming services, a double-sized adjustable bed, a sound bar, and a PlayStation. If you use the PlayStation, you're able to rent about 10 games from the front desk. We decided to try out a Spider-Man game during our stay.

Comfort Leisure Room

We were assigned room 815 so we finally made our way to the 8th floor. One of the ways the Shilla Stay ensures the security and privacy of the guests, you must tap your room key in the elevator in order to access any a guest floor. We got in the elevator, tapped our key, selected our floor and finally made our way down the simple but elegant hall to our room. 

As soon as we opened the door, we were create by a large 65-inch TV! A built-in closet was also located right near the door, perfect for storing your outerwear and shoes during your stay. To the right of the entrance was the bathroom door that automatically opened as soon as we closed the front door!

We opened the window to heck out the view and were immediately greeted with a beautiful view decorated by the lights of the COEX Mall. Despite not being on a higher floor, we were still able to enjoy a lovely view, but we recommend staying on a higher floors to really take in view!

Note: While the view is great, remember not to give the people on the street one.   Remember to close your windows when changing, especially if you're staying on a lower floor.

The window is able to opened slightly so we cracked it open the next morning to get some fresh air. It somehow made the relaxing stay even more so. 

Out of all the inclusions that come with staying in a Comfort Leisure, the one we enjoyed most from our stay was the adjustable bed, which allows you to change the elevation and position of your head and legs. After a full day of walking through the COEX Mall, it was exactly what we needed to relax such a busy day. 

Right next to the bed was a nightstand which came equipped with the TV guide, a separate remote for the TV, the adjustable bed and the PlayStation. Another inclusion of a Comfort Leisure room is access to various streaming services. From the comfort of our bed, we could enjoy some Netflix, YouTube, and basic cable channels with ease. With the size of of the TV, it truly gave a movie-theater feeling. 🤩

Located behind the sound bar was our included PlayStation. We tested out the Spider-Man game we rented and took in the color and quality of the 65-inch TV. Not only was it perfect for watching movies, but great for video games. 

In addition to the the entertainment and leisure amenities, the room also included some practical ones. Since this hotel is used commonly by professionals, it seemed only natural that there was a small office space included. You could easily get some work done at the desk or sit on the couch and enjoy the view of COEX. The room included other basics such an alarm clock and hair dryer. 

Overall, the room was simple and modern. It had everything we needed to enjoy a comfortable stay, as if we were simply at home. The room temperature was perfect and didn't need to be adjusted even once.

Amenities & Bathroom

The room comes loaded with a refrigerator, a hot water pot, various types of tea and two bottles of water. Maybe as a result of Covid times, there were paper cups wrapped in a plastic bag as opposed to glass cups. It was nice to know our health and safety were being well-considered during our stay at the hotel. The refrigerator was small but perfect for keeping any drinks or leftovers you may have your meal that night.

Just like the rest of the room's design, the bathroom was simple, but modern with minimal lighting. Right by the front door, there was a bath robe ready for use. Upon check-in, you are able to choose between having a bath tub or shower in your room. Despite the relaxation opportunities that come with a bath tub, we chose the convenient shower option. While we were very satisfied, with the water pressure of the sink and shower, the toilet's was weaker than expected. 

The bathroom came fully stocked with plenty of towels and products such as shampoo and lotion from the vegan brand, Aveda. Disposable toiletries like toothbrushes, combs, cotton swabs and more were also neatly prepared in a box for easy use. The Philips hair dryer also worked well so we had everything we needed for a comfortable night's stay.

Facilities

The highlight of our stay at the Shilla Stay was the visit to the 21st floor rooftop bar. With modern furniture, mood lights, and a beautiful city view, the ambience of the bar created a location perfect for lovely dinner, a glass of wine, or a chat with some friends or colleagues.

During the summer season, it is often filled with people enjoying a refreshing beer or getting the perfect shot of Lotte Tower in the distance. 

Unfortunately because our stay was during the winter, we were not able to stay outside very long, but we were able to enjoy the view of the various Christmas decorations and view of COEX for a little while. 

Another inclusion of your stay is a complimentary breakfast at the hotel's cafe located on the 20th floor. On weekdays, breakfast is from 6:30am to 9:30am and from 7am to 10am on weekends. 

There both Korean and Western breakfast options located in a buffet-style display. Some of the options included bread, waffles, eggs, salad, cereal and more. Another option available was Vietnamese pho, which is specially made to order. While it's known for being delicious, it's even more enjoyable while enjoying the morning view of the city from the 20th floor.

A couple more amenities that we did not have the chance to use are the fitness center located on the 2nd floor, the laundry facilities located in the second level basement, and the parking garage located in the third level basement.

The Shilla Stay is located less than a minute's walk away from Exit 7.

Seoul has many options when it comes to places to stay. From hotels that overlook the Han River to ones that are located in the middle of nature, there is an option for every preference.
