It beat out the previous record-holder, Bridgerton, which is about high-class British society in the early 1800s. 82 million accounts watched Bridgerton in the first 28 days since its release on Christmas in 2020.
Currently, Squid Game has topped the rankings in 94 countries where Netflix is available and is also the first Korean drama to top the rankings in the United States.
CNN explained that Netflix's figure of 111 million accounts is based on accounts that streamed the show for at least two minutes and has not been verified by a third party.

Squid Game received favorable reviews, receiving a 91% freshness score on Rotten Tomatoes, an American review-aggregation site for movies and TV, and raised Netflix's stock price to an all-time high.
According to Kim Min-young, Vice President of Content for Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand at Netflix Korea, Netflix began investing in Korean film and drama series in 2015 in hopes to create world-class content for Hallyu fans all over the world.
She went on to state that Squid Game has achieved more than they dreamed and given Netflix confidence in their global strategy.
