According to the menu display, the butcher shop recommends that you cook Hanwoo one of two ways: over a charcoal fire or on a stone-plate grill.

Butcher opening a package of beef

Butcher cutting preparing beef

We chose some cuts of meat from the display case.

Although the color of both pieces of meat pictured above was different, they were both cuts of beef chuck.

The cut of meat on the left is the more popular choice among customers while the one on the right is more fatty.

Scale measuring amount of beef to be purchased by customer

We purchased about 200-300g of these cuts of meat.

Butcher laying pieces of beef on to packaging tray

The butcher prepared our cuts of meat in a separate package for us.

Butcher trimming fat from beef

We decided to order one more cut of meat, beef sirloin.

The butcher trimmed off any excess fat, so the weight of the meat would be more accurate.

We appreciated that!

We decided to prepare our beef on a charcoal grill.

At the meat market, there are restaurants where you can prepare and eat your freshly bought meat for a small price.

Every restaurant is slightly different, but on average, it will cost 4,000 to 5,000 won per customer.

The butcher's wife was kind enough to recommend and walk us to a place where we could prepare our meat in such a way.

We started with our sirloin cut!

Our server recommended that we cut it half so that it would cook faster and more evenly.

The smell coming off the grill was amazing!

Our mouths started to water.

Lettuce wrap with beef and onions

Customer dipping beef in salt

There are many ways to enjoy your Hanwoo.

You can eat it in a lettuce wrap with some onion and kimchi.

You can even dip it in some salt.

We think that eating Hanwoo with a little bit of wasabi is best!

Smaller pieces of beef grilling on open flame

After enjoying the sirloin, next up was the beef chuck.

The meat was thin but tender and so juicy.

We enjoyed this cut very much.

Two pieces of pork on grill

If you make a purchase of at least 50,000 won at Hwasin Butcher Shop, they will give you a free pack of beef brisket!

This was the pork belly.

Before grilling your pork belly, we recommend that you ask your server to change out your grill pan.
